Linkage, careful, its HOT.

These little while ago were very hard to find, and if you did, was close to $400 for them, now they are back, and prices are coming back down, this is the cheapest I have seen. The Geeks have them as a special, for refub units, and $335 shipped, so this super smokes that deal for it is cheaper, and new.

Dont for get about the Easter egg 2nd display on these either people!

Turn off your set and hold the Input+Effects+Settings+Mute buttons all at the same time, for about 5 seconds and the scren will display that the 2nd display is now active.

It changes the lcd out look for settings and Volume, and the off button is now a cool purple color in place of red ;)

Really, $200 shipped a week ago for these? I remember just a few months ago, you couldnt find these at all on the web, and if you did you had to pay out the nose to get one. I was crapping bricks when I found it for the price I did, let alone you 2 saying it was $200 a week ago.

I have 2 sets of these and I just love em to death, and I too came from owning 2 promedias 2.1, and a 5.1 set. These, IMO are far better, and so far in 2 years, havent blown a single sub, and they both get used every single day, and one set is on for 12 hours a day 7 days a week. I am usually home alone for those hours and it gets used, and abused.

Yea, if the forums were easier to sort, you probably wouldn't have missed it.

$282 shipped to me.:(
I need a new set for my new dx-10 gaming rig but the tax kills it.
I bought one from Techforless not long ago for $200 (refurb), shipped.
Opened the box there was no way in heck I could tell it was "refurb"
I currently have it hooked up to my xbox 360 via toslink and the combo just rocks.

Awesome deal on these. These rival most Home-Theater-in-a-box setups, and it has the DD & DTS decoders BUILT-IN!

Logitech Spec Page

FYI, I got a call last night that mine was back-ordered until June 7, but these are well worth the wait!

I haven't heard these personally, but based on the specs and the reviews I've seen, these more than 'rival most' htib's. With exception of audiophile htib's for hundreds more, of course.

I do have to say I had a 'fluke' experience with my 4.1 setup years ago. It was when logitech first started making good speakers. I can't remember the model number but it was the top of the line 4.1 setup they had. I abused it pretty good, playing it very loud. It played flawlessly until one day when the sub channel blew.

Being an electronics geek I took the sub apart to investigate and see if it was a simple sodder issue. Unfortunately the sub and amp were so integrated I was unable to dissect it all without risking losing the other 4 channels. Never did end up fixing it.

Gotta say, I really loved it until it blew though.

I use a set strictly for that. I have had sets costing me thousands of dollars I have put together with name brand stuff, that this sub $300 set just blows the doors off of. I cannot think of any set in a box that can come close to sounding this good, yeah you may noy have a am/fm tuner built in but who cares when you have THX Certified sound, dd and dts decoders, and a 10" 188w, RMS watts not peek, to boot.

Bought my first set for my pc, and when they showed up said the hell with going out and buying component stuff again, this does a fine job, and its in a room that is 18' wide by 30+ feet long, and it can be heard throughout my entire 2800 sqft home, bass shaking every single wall. And no its not all about the bass, even though with movies it helps, it sounds damn good all around, even better when you pair it up with the older Z560/680 speakers then what they come with ;)

Did that to mine and you get better highs, and much better mids. Found this out one day hooking up my set from my Z560 to it and was suprised by the difference in sound quality. I quickly threw my 2 sets on ebay fetching $130 for each set of 5, and went to justdeals.com and bought some speakers, and some off some members here in the fs section. Sound super now, and yes they are the same ohms as what they came with, I checked, so no worries of screwing up the amp ;)

Your kidding right that the tax kills it, because it is still the cheapest then anywhere else, on NEW, not referb or used, and Computergeeks.com is selling refurb ones that come out to close to $350 with shipping.

That's exactly what I was comparing them to. These blow the grilles off the SONY, Philips, and RCA htibs they're comparably priced with. I've compared a set of these to my buddy's Klipsch setup and an Onkyo htib, and I think the Logitech sounded better (more detailed, smoother transitions), especially at this price point.

I currently have a Creative / Cambridge SoundWorks DTT3500 set on my PC, and they've been great since 2001 when I got them. However, their amp can't decode dts, only Dolby Digital. Since I got my widescreen LCD, I've been using my PC more and more for DVD viewing. Many of my DVDs are dts encoded and just don't sound right (to me anyway) using the WinDVD dts > analog decoder. Problem solved with the Logitech kit!

I don't even know that "audiophile htib" means, but Sony, Philips, and RCA are not it :p

Onkyo makes decent HTIB sets but even their ~$1k 7.1 THX certified (real THX, not computer speaker THX) wouldn't get into the "audiophile" category :p

Having played RB 6 Vegas on the 360. Without the help from these Z5500 surround sounds speakers, the tangos would have eaten me alive a few times when being flanked from behind but I turned around and blew'em away, instead. LOL
It has my vote for the best HTIB for the $$$, period.

I sent a question about this once and for all and will post what I get back. I dont think there is a diff between PC or home speakers, that in order to get the THX logo on it it has to pass, and match. or exceed, the same sound qualifications for both.
Should find out straight from the horses mouth, for I emailed THX directly about it to find out.

When I say audiophile, it generally means stuff you can't find at circuit sh1tty or less buy. I/E: Paradigm Cinema Home Theater Speakers (which are a couple hundred dollars more)

Even still, I never said you really get a whole lot 'more for your money' for those.

My home theater is pieced together with pioneer, technics (panasonic), a/d/s, and an HK rec-amp. Because setup of staging, volume, placement etc is one of the most important parts, it sounds amazing.

The direction you point your subwoofer can make more of a difference than most people realize. Try rotating it 360* in different spots in the room and hear the difference

THX certification has a lot to do with power response at different frequencies, but other aspects as well.
It's definitely no question that when Logitech hired some real engineers some years back to bring up a new speaker line, they plopped themselves right smack into the mainstream speaker market, even dabbling with lower end audiophile speakers in their higher end. This has probably done as much for logitech as their Mouseman did back in the 90's. (the mouse they still base their MX series off of.

Well when you get into companies like Paradigm and such, you're out of the HTIB (Home theater in a Box) range (just for your particular example, you can get speakers/sub from Paradigm, but it will not come with a receiver)

The whole HTIB designation implies that the whole system comes together as a package. Not that it really makes a difference if you buy everything together or not, but better stuff like Paradigm and such will not come as a whole package as a default and leave you with options to pick your own components and build the system that's right for you.

OK finally, my question is answered and I was right in my understanding of it. It does still have to pass the same Sound quality test, and reproduction and liner test same as home theater stuff, just it would be rated for a smaller room, but as far as sound goes it still has to pass the same exact test and makes my Z5500 sound no better, different, or worse, then a Onkyo HT THX $1K system, other then it can go louder.

HA, put that in your pipes and smoke it with all you haters that say "its not the same", for it sounds the same just not as loud, mmmmm :p I love my THX Z5500 even more now for even if I spent $1+ on another THX certified system, it will sound about the same as what I have, and what I have now is plenty loud enough for me :)

Thank you YoYo for finding that for me.

Actually I was just showing that as a clear example that there are different levels, not that loudness is the only difference. THX specifications are not given out to the public but rather kept just given to manufacturers who pay for to have their equipment tested and certified.

Here's more info
http://www.audioholics.com/edu...tion-general-questions

I would have to agree with anyone who says "it's not the same", especially in terms of the "Loudspeakers" section of that table included in that link. I would be totally shocked if any of those specs for Select and Ultra were met by the performance of the z-5500 set.
