Yeah, you see, the problem I have with this is that every time any conservative speaks up against Trump we get page after page of what a shitty person the conservative is, which often includes false claims about too late disapproval of Trump even if the person opposed Trump from the minute he stepped up. There are often calls to "apologize" for positions they took decades ago. There is little to no commentary about what the person wrote. And there is zero recognition of the political benefit of having conservatives speak out against Trump. It seems that people would rather hear liberals do it. Which is really dumb. If George Will was never the conservative that you so dislike him for being, his word on Trump now would have no value at all.

Newsflash. Every single last conservative has supported things like tax cuts for the rich and other typical Reagonite policies. If that is going to disqualify them from being a valid or useful voice against Trump, then they're all disqualified. Psst: you don't actually have to agree with someone's policy positions, or even like them, to agree with the content of an editorial they wrote.
That didn't work out too well for Amash. He went from Freedom Caucus to RINO in a New York minute. The people that "need to hear this" will dismiss him in 2 seconds as part of the deep state.

Not exactly sure of the relevance here. My point was that most of these guys buy us a trivial numbers of votes anyway. So what's your point?

-Left, right, whatever, in the heart of every person is a small voice that says "REPENT, SINNER!" and it's going to come out in these discussions.

People on the left aren't totally logic driven vulcans, their reasoning is as much a mix of emotion and logic as anyone else's is.

Some will never be happy until penance is exacted, and I don't fault them for it.

And honestly, if a "Conservative Intellectual" couldnt see this train wreck coming from miles away after the likes of Newt Gingrich, Grover Norquist, the entire W gang, the Tea Party, Mitch McConnel... I have to call the "intellectual" part of that monkier into question.

Yes, ordinarily I'd be more interested in reflecting on the past actions of these conservatives, and the motivations of liberals for reflexively condemning them. However, I am a little busy at the moment, focusing exclusively on this:

11/3

We have a national emergency right now, and it isn't riots or covid-19. We can return to such high-minded discussions when the crisis is over.

- All fair points. Carry on.

There are a lot of people who are only just now waking up to Trump. You guys should practice the tolerance you preach and, if not welcome them with open arms, at least allow them a graceful exit from Trumpism. It will be in your best interests.

Merely commenting on the value of a lifelong conservative criticizing Trump vs. anyone else criticizing Trump.

I'm sure there are circles out there who have long-since managed to convince themselves that George Will is somehow a RINO, but in a sane world, he'd be considered one of the longest-standing genuinely conservative pundits out there. And I know he's been off the Trump bandwagon for a while now, but this editorial of his is something else.

Hoo, boy. I hope the non-fascist conservatives out there are listening.
Aw shit. Now I gotta find a thesaurus

If only they would admit some blame for the possibility of Trump coming to being. That's all I ask.
