That one is almost as bad, skin color is way off.

Right? That pic really doesn't negate my initial thought when seeing the comparison: if, hypothetically, I had no idea what the man looked like and went to the capitol building and tried to find Jindal by that office pic of him in my hand alone? Yeah I'd pass Jindal and not look at him twice probably.

The fact that Jindal seems to approve of it makes all that feel somewhere between creepy and sad, IMO anyway 🙁

I'm sure camera settings and lighting couldn't possibly have altered the color.

I am surprised the media hasn't reported much on Thomas writing this. This is much more egregious than what Trump said, because Thomas is on the Supreme Court. If he believes taking away someone's liberty or enslaving them is dignified, then we are in trouble.

very true.

I will say oddly that his thoughts parallel one i read in a comic book (yeah yeah). they used pretty much the same justification in enslaving..err i mean putting mutants in camps.

just weird that someone would use such a argument in real life.

Scalia and Roberts may be right wing, but no one has said they were stupid.
Clarence Thomas on the other hand....
This is the guy on the Supreme Court that doesn't ask questions?
This would be like Obama appointing Bill Maher to the court.

Better to Remain Silent and Be Thought a Fool than to Speak and Remove All Doubt.

And now, George Takei walks back his comment(s).
Gawd, doesn't anyone stick up for what they say, mean, anymore?
Obviously, one or more of the products he promotes and has a financial relationship with took him aside and threatened to cut ties if George Takei didn't apologize.
If you're not going to stand by comments you make, why say anything in the first place? Especially for the celebrities?
I'm not a fan of Trump at all in no way, but at least he will never walk back his comments.

When did this happen? I can't find it anywhere.

Change your username to Trollbeam already and be done with it.

kthxbye

Folk with big fat egos that are easily offended see trolls everywhere their fat egos get challenged. Don't post shot if you don't want to be offended. What kind of dick falls in love with himself because he says he's an independent. It's just another biased position. Get some starch in your spine.

Once again, you fail. I rarely call out trolls in this forum. But you are clearly one, always posting pure shite in an attempt to get an over the top reactionary post in the process. Keep trying but I won't bite. You are a troll, pure and simple and you've proven that over and over again in this forum.

Later, Trollbeam.

So there you were posting along in ego bliss riding the space ship TastesLikeChicken, and dreaming dreams of the great objectivity and impartial vision, the blessing of independent political opinion, when all of a sudden from under a bridge sprang a mighty troll unimpressed by your ridiculousness and who handed you a plate of humble pie for your post mortification which read, Dear Mr. Chicken, while you may fancy yourself the dandy, straight of comb and slick of feather, the facts are that you're to go in the crack pot to become the soup of the day. Your vaunted opinion that your shit doesn't stink because it has no party label is as partisanly biased as the worst BS of any Democrat or Republican. My deepest sorrow that these simple facts felt to you immature ego like a club to the side of your head. I was only concerned that that very head might grow so large you could tip over with the result that your feet would never again find the ground.

The only thing that matters, party or not, is where you stand on the issues. Is there any political action we can take that will make the world better.

I recommend reading Thomas' dissent in its entirety. Thomas re-opens the door to state-sponsored segregation and also inadvertently guts the entire institution of marriage in his attempt to rationalize continued state discrimination against gays and lesbians.
Yeah, it's a pretty scary concept. It's true that dignity is internal, but the logical conclusion as he framed it is "so it doesn't matter what we do to you."

When did this happen? I can't find it anywhere.

He did it on his Facebook page, after he had posted the other day (perhaps this morning my days are really blurring together at the moment) saying he wouldn't apologize for it. The only thing that I find really amusing about it is Takei goes after people's heads for even looking like they may have said something derogatory about race, gender or sexual preference. The fact that he said a racist remark then attempted to say it wasn't (I tried to find the post where he was refusing to apologize, which is where he also attempted to say "Blackface" wasn't a racial slur, but couldn't find it. I think he pulled it down, I'm sure someone out there has it but I'm way to tired to dig for it.) was very hypocritical. I guess the rules don't apply to him, as he's fighting for the good guys. 🙄

By far my favorite moonbeam post! 😀

Can Independents be partisan?

Yes, in fact most are.

http://themonkeycage.org/2009/12/17/three_myths_about_political_in/

People like to say they are independents because they like the veneer of objectivity they think it has. Their behavior in practice, however, shows they are anything but objective.

I've seen nothing from your posts that would lead me to believe you are one of the small percentage of independents that is not a closet partisan. If anything, the opposite.

You'd think that if he were on the bench of SCOTUS at the time Judge Thomas would vote against ending Anti-miscegenation laws

....

Ahhh, now I see where you and Trollbeam are both confused, and apprently uninformed. I said nothing about being objective or even implied it. In fact, politics by its very nature is primarily opinion-based, which effectively makes it a subjective process.

The definition of partisan when used as I did means "Prejudiced in favor of a particular cause."

It is not the objectivity, or lack thereof, that is the issue to me. It's the lack of prejudice and the fact that I don't have to be a slave to ideology when coming up with my subjective political opinions.

The fact that you can't see that opinions based on party or personal preference are identical in nature, all personal preference just tells me you're a clucking moron as usual.
