Has Trump not ordered the flags to half staff? I thought this was pretty much automatic when a president died, but no one around here has lowered their flags, even though they usually do every time someone stubs their toe.

So everybody forgets the dude who caused 9/11 in the first place by starting a war for Oil and putting troops in Saudi Arabia. The guy who allied us to that brutal despotic Saudi regime closer than ever before. This fvcking guy. It's always the worst of us who live the longest. The good die young, while the terrible remain.

I mean come on, wasn't he just sued for sexually harassing some woman a few weeks ago? I guess #MeToo goes out the window when you can virtue signal about how "centrist" you are.
MeToo goes out the window when you are dealing with a 90 year old man that is more than likely developing age related mental decline.

Yeah, my feeling was that Trump can come, but must not be allowed to say anything (or at most, a brief prepared statement of condolences). At best, he'd use the opportunity as a soapbox for his grudges du jour; at worst he'd disrespect a recently deceased President and permanently tarnish the funeral.

It's rather sad that Trump is so fundamentally vile that you can't even trust him to perform what should be the safest of duties for a President: paying tribute to a previous President's service.
Trump is the vile kind of human that would use that stage to air his grievances. Can you imagine, "I like Presidents who don't raise taxes". Just sit in a corner and don't open your mouth.

Yes, absolutely. It seems that some people like to say nice things about the dearly departed, ignoring the warts of their past in their remembrance of that person. George Carlin did a bit on this very thing in one of his acts.

Since this is a pretty reflexive move on the part of the media, I can't wait to see what nice things they have cooked up to say about Donny Dollhands when it's his time to compost.
Can you think of anything DD has done considered nice for anyone else other them himself??

I enjoyed his resignation letter from the NRA

Dear Mr. Washington,

I was outraged when, even in the wake of the Oklahoma City tragedy, Mr. Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of N.R.A., defended his attack on federal agents as "jack-booted thugs." To attack Secret Service agents or A.T.F. people or any government law enforcement people as "wearing Nazi bucket helmets and black storm trooper uniforms" wanting to "attack law abiding citizens" is a vicious slander on good people.

Al Whicher, who served on my [ United States Secret Service ] detail when I was Vice President and President, was killed in Oklahoma City. He was no Nazi. He was a kind man, a loving parent, a man dedicated to serving his country -- and serve it well he did.
In 1993, I attended the wake for A.T.F. agent Steve Willis, another dedicated officer who did his duty. I can assure you that this honorable man, killed by weird cultists, was no Nazi.
John Magaw, who used to head the U.S.S.S. and now heads A.T.F., is one of the most principled, decent men I have ever known. He would be the last to condone the kind of illegal behavior your ugly letter charges. The same is true for the F.B.I.'s able Director Louis Freeh. I appointed Mr. Freeh to the Federal Bench. His integrity and honor are beyond question.

Both John Magaw and Judge Freeh were in office when I was President. They both now serve in the current administration. They both have badges. Neither of them would ever give the government's "go ahead to harass, intimidate, even murder law abiding citizens." (Your words)

I am a gun owner and an avid hunter. Over the years I have agreed with most of N.R.A.'s objectives, particularly your educational and training efforts, and your fundamental stance in favor of owning guns.
However, your broadside against Federal agents deeply offends my own sense of decency and honor; and it offends my concept of service to country. It indirectly slanders a wide array of government law enforcement officials, who are out there, day and night, laying their lives on the line for all of us.
You have not repudiated Mr. LaPierre's unwarranted attack. Therefore, I resign as a Life Member of N.R.A., said resignation to be effective upon your receipt of this letter. Please remove my name from your membership list. Sincerely, [ signed ] George Bush

A competent administrator who empowered or at least went along with the worst instincts and policies of his already monstrous-minded party. He gets no points for me for being a reasonably nice dude once out of power. Goodbye, Mr. Bush.

Lol..Trump is looking forward to 41's funeral:

I have a feeling that the Bush family does not feel the same way about being with him.

I really, really wish they would have shunned him again but I understand why they felt they couldn't in this case. He should be barred from participating in any activity normal presidents would automatically be included in. He tarnishes the dignity of anything he is involved in.

My question: what if this were a former Democrat President's funeral? I'm dreading the thought of what happens if Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton passes... Trump's advisors might have to force him to go (if he's invited), and they'd basically need to approve everything he says that week so that he won't disrespect the dead.
