Why ‘Embodiment’ is More Important Than ‘Immersion’:

immersion is attention and embodiment is the feeling of actually being there.

Battery on my OG Quest bought holidays 2019 only holds about a 30 minute charge. I guess I'll velcro a battery bank to it. No way I can box with it plugged in.

This all works on my Quest 2, only in lower resolution correct?

Correct! Skybox is like 3D VLC for ten bucks. Or you can use Virtual Desktop or a handful of other apps. Here's a great resource for 3D trailers:

The Quest 2 is still great! I went with Quest 3 because:

1. We wanted an additional headset for multi-player. My nephews are into VR now & stuff like Rec Room & Gorilla Tag are pretty fun!

2. Pass-thru for drawing in rooms (layouts & whatnot) & for doing OT/PT workouts. I had an injury & it's SO COOL for rehab work!!

3. Watching movies on the treadmill, elliptical, and indoor bike. I get a 150" screen in front of me & can see my surroundings safely thanks to the camera.

4. I wanted to see how the new pancake lenses were. I was worried it wouldn't be worth the upgrade, but it if you watch shows on it, IT TOTALLY IS!

There's kind of a haze over the screens rather than pixels. Cartoons look better than live-action movies. Netflix in immersion mode in the web browser is SUPER excellent! Watching 4K movies in Skybox in the cinema setting feels like you're there! The 3D has a bit of motion blur but is still excellent. imo everyone who gets a Q3 should watch the non-3D IMAX 4K Avatar 3 trailer in the Skybox cinema setting first!

The hand-tracking is really great & the audio is VERY impressive! For anything else, it's not really worth the upgrade. Like, I don't know if I'd buy it as an upgrade JUST for games. Pass-thru usage & watching shows would be the biggest drivers for upgrading imo.

Immersed VR remote desktop supports up to 5 monitors & can be run headless: Company seems a little spotty lately, but neat concept!

Updated Q3 setup:

I went Vive > Q1 > Q2 > Q3 over the years. Just upgraded to a Quest 3 setup:

  1. Quest 3 with BOBOVR S3 battery strap, AMVR FC3 mask, and Vega T1 USB-C earbuds
  2. Puppis S1 dedicated wireless router to PC
  3. Quest Game Optimizer
Runs:

  1. Meta Quest Store
  2. SideQuest
  3. Wireless PCVR
All-in nearly $200 less than an Index. Fully wireless, extended battery, exercise face mask, pancake lenses, hand tracking, etc. Runs everything with zero hassle:

  • Quest & SideQuest
  • Steam & SteamVR
  • HDMI Link
  • Virtual Desktop
  • Emulators
  • Virtual arcades
  • Virtual pinball
  • PS5 Remote Play
  • Xbox Game Pass
  • SkyboxVR cinema
  • Exercise (Wahoo cadence sensor for Holofit & VirZOOM)
No wires, no lighthouses, battery hot-swap, sweat management (aftermarket mask & head strap fan), etc. Not bad at all!

EarthQuest is really cool, it lets you fly around Google Earth & use StreetView! Very neat hand tracking mechanics as well!

First time in like 10 years I've gotten VR nausea lol. I also almost fell over when I dropped from space straight down LOL. Play this one sitting down in a swivel chair!!
