Glad it helped!

Computer, it worked! - I found this thread by running a tracert on www dot gemstarguide dot com and a google on the IP - thanks for the info - and I agree Macrovision could easily have spread the wealth around here. Then again, I think they started in the "copy protection" business of VHS tapes...

Don't know how you got this info but I suspected the URL was the problem as well. AMD - ATI has no clue, and I never received a response when submitting a request from Gemstar.

For anyone else looking for this thread, some keywords here:
Macrovision, ATI Guide+ ATI GuidePlus+ Gemstar Radeon TV listings

Did you see all of my post that had the fix, about the other URL?

BTW if that new URL doesn't work, this one may: http://152.101.67.132/gdndl/gdnget2.asp but I tried that one first and it didn't work for me.

Also, be sure you do this:

Go to this key in your Registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Gemstar\ETV\URL

...and change those 3 URL's you see at the right pane to http://144.198.100.134/gtidl/gdnget2.asp

Or in your case, you may have to use the 152. URL.

Hi computer, I am in Canada and was using GuidePlus until a couple of months ago. Then it stopped updating the listings with connection errors. Googling around I found this thread and made the registry changes as suggested by you. I tried the new URL with both IP numbers you suggested but I still can not get listings (still connection errors).

Now I am wondering does this have anything to do with me being in Canada? I actually tried connecting to the servers using a US proxy, still no go, I also tried a Niagara Falls, US zip code to see if I can get a US guide, no go with that either..

So nothing seems to work for me. Any suggestions, any Canadian GuidePlus users out there who can access the Guide....

I don't know what to tell you. I just updated mine again ok. So it could be a Canadian issue, maybe you need to use different URL's/IP's. Since ATI's headquarters are in Ontario, they may be "more concerned" with this issue for you. http://ati.amd.com/companyinfo/contact/coninfo.html

Hi Ray,

Doesn't seem to be a Canadian issue. I live in the GTA and the first URL that 'computer' (Clint) posted worked fine. Although, i'm not sure why i can't seem to get Global (channel 3) on the listing. Oh well.

Sorry 'bout your troubles. I can only suggest that you make sure you copy the URL that was posted to all three of the registry entries - 1, 2 and URL. Hope you find a solution soon.

I have that kind of BS as well. Quite annoying. It's been missing more than a dozen channels for me, and that's been going on for years. Most are not any obscure local channels either but major cable channels.

And you're welcome!

Yeah that sucks. You don't really realize how needed it is until it's gone. Maybe he's gotten it to work by now. I had to use http://www.tvguide.com/listings/default.aspx before I got it fixed. A poor substitute but it was at least something. You can click the "Edit Location" to set your area, and you have to accept and keep the Cookie on your HD for it to remember your settings when you check the site. International zones are here: http://www.tvguide.com/listing.../listings/default.aspx

Holy crap, I just realized they don't even have Canada listed! :shocked: How can they list a country like Bolivia, and not Canada!?? :confused:

These people still haven't fixed this ridiculous forum. You still can only edit a post ONE time!

It appears their definition of "International" is only the USA & some territories, the Caribbean, Central & South America! But there's got to be some Canadian equivalent similar to that site.

I just noticed something bad happening again. About two weeks ago, NBC on the guide was totally grayed out. Nothing but an empty blank a gray bar and all across all times and days it said "No listings available". :disgust: That went on after a couple of updates. I just updated it again hoping that would be fixed, and now two other networks are freakin' gone! So now it's NBC, PBS, (and some local channel) that have no listings! :roll:

Is anything like that happening to any of you? I haven't asked Guide Plus about this, but I'll email them about it tonight, FWIW. I'm sure they'll say the same thing as before...."nothing wrong".

I am guessing the problem has something to do with the digital switch over. According to the site in europe they are notifying french consumers of the switch.

http://www.europe.guideplus.com/

The Regedit was nice while it lasted.
Hey Birdd0gger, that is a reasonable speculation, but is not actually correct (for the U.S.) information. It was speculated about when the first problems with Gemstar's Guide Plus + System - ATI first and the death of analog listings prematurely have been proclaimed as far back as 2008. However, this fails to consider that the majority of cable providers in the U.S. are still sending analog signals to their subscribers and will continue to do so for the foreseeable years to come.

Think about all the devices that use GEMSTAR==>Macrovision==>ROVI's EPG (TV's, DVR's, PVR's, DVD Burners w/ built in Guides, ETC.).
http://www.rovicorp.com/dtv/10053.htm (the current owners of Gemstar make no mention of analog guide ending).
===================================================================
Pertaining to the current problem:

On or about December 11-13th, 2009 = everyone who uses GUIDE PLUS+(TM) System - ATI ==> A Gemstar Program provided with ATI's All-In-Wonder & TV Wonder products (is) no longer able to update it's EPG - TV Listings.
The following message is displayed when attempting to get the updates; Message: "Failed to Connect to the Server. Please Check the internet connection and try to download again"
----------
The problem relates to the NEW development; the URL that has been working for Guide Plus to update our computer's Guide Plus + System - for ATI http://144.198.100.134/gtidl/gdnget2.asp
has (WITHIN THE LAST WEEK), become password protected?
If you paste the URL into your browser you can see this for yourself...
=============================================================
Since December 2008 ~ January 2009 the lookup server has been down/dead\or shut off whether on purpose or unknowingly preventing the program from working automatically upon re-install...keep in mind that ATI/AMD abandoned this software long ago; so it's been quite lucky & (NICE) that it's continued to work at all (albeit with some hoops to jump through starting in Dec2008-Jan 2009).
However, unless someone knows of or gets another URL to edit into the registry like last time, or Rovi unblocks / removes the authentication requirement they have added to the current listings URL we are dead in the water. (It's true that in that past years as we got close to the holidays often Gemstar seemed to go /on vacation/ for a few weeks and after the holidays the updates were restored; but never have I seen them lock down the update server during that time.? New company running the show this could all be a simple error, something done for security reasons while they leave for the holiday (?) unaware that we are still out here relying on that URL etc. etcetera!!!

+++++++++++++++CONTACT/COMMENT\COMPLAINT URL BELOW+++++++++++++++++++++++++++=

HOWEVER, as posted by Averick & mentioned by others at Rage 3d this is the link to CONTACT ROVI:
http://www.rovicorp.com/company/11088.htm
Please take 5-10 minutes to write a complaint to them. I included the following information: That we are using Gemstar's GUIDE PLUS+(TM) System - ATI ; and that the URL that we have been using to get updates (for almost a year now has been locked sometime late last week (about December 11-13th, 2009) http://144.198.100.134/gtidl/gdnget2.asp

As I stated elsewhere if you value this guide, please take the time today to go to that website and fill in at least the comment section (don't have to provide contact info if you don't want them to reply to you). They or previous owner Macrovision shut off the look up server & unless A: ROVI Unlocks the URL we WERE using for the past year =OR= B: provides directly to some of us VIA email or publishes on their website a new unlocked URL (one that doesn't require authentication) then the program is going to be dead in the water! Titan TV ONLY works with the HDTV Wonder (ATI) for onscreen scheduling & not without difficulties , so if/when this dies, that will be it for an INTEGRATED TV Tuner program and the All-In-Wonders not connected or running through the XP Media Centers EPG.

So again take the few minutes now to show as much support by filling out a complaint text in the online comment section from ROVI - URL listed above ~> for them to straighten out this error.

I called Rovi today at 408-562-8400 and managed to talk to a human. She was the operator and was aware of our problem, but explained that Rovi sold the department. She told me to call Gemstar TV Guide at 323-856-4000. I did. They are deadly serious there about not talking to customers. Under no circumstances could I talk to anyone. Good luck to us.

What registry settings are currently working?
The same as before, their server was just down or had some kind of a problem. This is what's working for me:

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Gemstar\ETV\URL]
"LAST DOWNLOAD"="201001221047"
"URL"="http://www.gemstarguide.com/gdndl/gdnget.asp"
"DATAVER"=dword:00000002
"recent"="http://144.198.100.134/gtidl/gdnget2.asp"
"1"="http://144.198.100.134/gtidl/gdnget2.asp"

Very bad news, i wrote to rovi and here is the answer

It appears you are using AMD / ATI Guide software to get TV listings from the internet.

Due to contractual differences with AMD/ATI, this service is no longer available.

If this is not the case and you are using an On Screen Guide built into a TV or DVR please reply to this email with the following information:

Zip Code:

Device Make and Model Number:

Cable Provider or OTA(antenna):

Set up if Cable (Cable Ready, Cable Box, Cable Card):

Regards,

Rovi CE Tech Support

I just wrote to AMD and ask them to fix the contractual problem with Rovi
