@RussianSensation.

Hard to understand?

You're all over the place ---- stating HD 7970 but really mean implicit to 1100-1150 -- offer Ghz benches and any OC edition you can find.

Sorry if you feel I am all the place. I feel that you have missed the context since my very first post #5 addressed this clearly. On my first post (#5), I recommended that the OP gets a factory preoverclocked $420-440 HD7970 vs. $400 GTX670 and it seems most people in this thread got that as well (blackened23, Grooveriding, etc.). I am not sure why you were the only one who didn't understand the entire point about spending $20-40 more over the GTX670 to specifically get 1000-1100mhz HD7970. Also, as has been linked by me in Post #7, I already showed a stock HD7970 beating the GTX670 at 2560x1440/1600, as well as HD7970 GE which closely approximated the performance of those factory pre-overclocked 7970 cards I first recommended in Post #5. I even later linked GTX670/680 AMP! cards still losing to 1050mhz HD7970 at 2560x1600. It seems your main issue here is that "20% increase from HD7970 to GTX670," which is obviously not true in the context of 925mhz 7970 version. But if you actually read my posts, I never once claimed the 20% delta against a stock 7970. Not sure how this confused you. You think I would claim that HD7970 925mhz is 20% faster than GTX670? Sounds like you are just trying to find some argument that isn't even there to begin with.

Here I'll summarize it again to make it simpler from a performance stand-point:

2560x1440/1600 4-8AA:
Stock HD7970 925mhz > GTX670 stock versions
$420-440 HD7970 1000-1100mhz factory pre-overclocked > $400-430 GTX670 factory preoverclocked versions
$420-440 HD7970 max air overclock > $400-430 GTX670 max air overclock
GTX670 SLI > HD7970 CF since SLI tends to have less micro-stutter based on many user posts, HardOCP, AnandTech and TechReport reviews.

* $310-320 HD7950 + 1.1ghz = best bang for the buck for 2560x1440/1600

That covers all 6 pages. ;)

I don't disagree with your over-all premise.

I'll try to be more clearer next time. It's hard to find specific benchmarks of 1100mhz HD7970. TechSpot and Tom's Hardware both just ran benchmarks with the Superoverclock Gigabyte HD7970 1080mhz. It should closely approximate the 1100mhz Vortex II.

Also, Tom's included 1000mhz HD7970 (that equals the Giga WindForce 3x), 1080mhz HD7970 and 1200mhz overclocked GTX680 in theirs:

You're very consistent on price/performance, very polite and understanding, thank you!

Speaking of price/performance, if the rumoured specs for GTX660Ti 2GB are true, 2x GTX660Ti 2GB SLI may make $500 GTX680 look downright silly for a single high resolution screen.

Yeah I do give Russian a hard time, but he's good people for sure. I just enjoy a good argument I guess lol.

Thanks! BTW, since you are getting a Catleap, maybe you can drop 2-3 lines about how playable a single GTX670 was vs. 670 SLI. You don't have to provide benchmarks but for example you can confirm that your single 670 was good enough for 1080P, but became too slow at 2560x1440 or conversely maybe it'll still be fast enough for 2560x1440 on its own. Although I have a feeling you like high framerates, so probably by your standards it'll be totally unplayable to use a single 670. :)

this forum NEEDS him as he is one of the few people that can really look at both sides objectively. he also has the uncanny ability to stay calm even when others are clearly getting it on his nerves.

Indeed, but gamers could of purchased GTX 560TI - 2 gig sku's -- for a modest premium last generation:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...I+2+gb&x=0&y=0

Two of these would of offered more performance than a GTX 580 and less ram limitations for 1600p or multi-monitor as well.

It's going to be nice to see more 28nm competition, value and choice to consider.

Yeah, actually was planning on doing full benches of a bunch of games. Crysis, Crysis 2, Batman, Dirt 3, & Heaven. Does Metro 2033 have a built in benchmark of some type?

Was gonna show 8xAA, 4xAA, and zero AA (except where MSAA is unsupported like Crysis 2)with single and dual cards at 2560x1440 to illustrate where AA is usable and where it may not be. I think pretty much everyone is familiar with 1920x1080/1200 and won't deny that AA comes with few penalties and will be fine in terms of performance.

Should have my monitor here early next week and barring any issues when it arrives I'll have some info posted up not long after.

I have a single GTX670 FTW, used it with a Samsung 1920x1200, and now a Q270. It's brutally perfect at 1200p, and nearly perfect at 1440p (had to back down AA a tiny bit in some titles). I got mine before AMD boosted speeds and dropped prices, I am brand agnostic, I had a 6950 2GB previously (handed it down to the GF), it was great as well.

Yes it does and it's remarkably consistent. Here is where to find it.
lol, how could cmdrdredd not even know about the Metro 2033 benchmark?

always throw out the very first run for that bench if you are about to do some testing with different clocks. for some reason the very first run is not always consistent with all the rest. and also the min framerate is useless but that is true for most flybys.

I'm kind of wondering the same. The prices in Denmark are (Asus DirectCu-II versions):

7950: $433
7970: $555
670: $535

What would you choose?

Csuse I just recently installed it, never looked in the steam folders, and havent actually played any of it yet. I got it during the steam sale.

Remember I have said before I skipped the game because it ran like garbage and apparently isnt much better now even with sli.

The price drops have made AMD products much more competitive and great to see. Nice to see more discussions on value. Heck, it's kinda reminding me of the 4XXX, 5XXX and 6XXX generation days.

Don't believe the hype, metro 2033 plays just fine even on slightly dated hardware because most of the game takes place indoors. That said, you cannot enable Physx or advanced DOF in this game no matter what. I have 680 sli (7970cf prior) and don't enable those 2 settings, because they're either bugged or have a performance hit so large that it isn't usable on any card.

So...to summarize...

Turn ADOF and PHSYX off whenever you play metro 2033...your framerate will be fine, as mentioned it is almost completely indoors and your framerates will be 100-200 in most areas.

Its not a bad game, quite fun for a single playthrough.

I was planning on buying this game. So it will never plunge below 60FPS with the above settings disabled? I run GTX 670 SLI. If it plunges below 60FPS more than a couple of times I will stay away from this game.

You will be fine with 670 sli. I ran the game on a single GTX 580 and it was fine.. never dipped below 60 fps on at 1080p.

Don't believe the hype the game doesn't require a supercomputer -- Don't use physx , don't use ADOF, don't max the game out.

Thanks for the quick answer. Just bought it on Steam for 9.99 Euros. Downloading when typing this.

Gaming immersion is broken in gaming titles if it drops below 60FPS a few times?

I hate dropping below 60FPS. If it's only a couple of times, a few seconds it's fine. There is a reason I have GTX 670 SLI. I like to have minimum 60FPS at all times.

With my setup I average 65fps with o hysx and dof on but only near 70 with them off. Minumum jumps a bit though. This is using the game's benchmark and I dont yet know what the experience will be normally.

Also my catleap arrived today. If all goes well I should have some numbers up later on.

Will a Geforce GTX 670 be powerful enough for modern games at 2560x1440 resolution? I have no interest in SLI and the Geforce GTX 680 is a bit out of range for me. I'm currently running an i7 3770k, 16GB Corsair Vengeance and a GTX 460 768MB.

A single 670 will be fine for 1440.
