AMD has no budget for replacement cards. There is a reason why they are not doing a full lineup now (it does not make economic sense) and there is a reason why they were still selling pitcarin until recently.

Likely Polaris 10 and 11 will go the same way cape verde and pitcarin went. Roadmaps show no successor in the near future for polaris 10 or 11.

IMO Polaris 10 and 11 will be part of AMDs main lineup for at least 3 years.

I said a second revision of the same GPUs once the GF 14LPP process matures. We are likely to see a second revision as its mentioned in the Rx 400 series naming scheme. I do agree that Polaris 10, 11 and Vega 10, 11 will be around till atleast mid-late 2018 when Navi should replace them.

http://videocardz.com/61721/amd-radeon-rx-400-series-naming-scheme-explained

"AMD confirmed they will be using XX5 revisions, which basically means we might be seeing faster variants released after time, when yields are better, leakage was minimized, or AMD simply decided to release higher-clocked version."

Neither QB nor FM are faster because of DX12. They are faster because of the engine - look at Hitman with DX11. BTW: FM can be faster on a GTX1060. And Doom is not neutral. Stop with this talk. The developers are selling and promoting AMD cards.

Hate to break it to you, but DX12 enables better engines. That is the whole point of DX12. Faster engines.

Sure. Problem is that id doesnt care. Similiar to other companies like IO Interactive, Creative Assembly and Oxide.

Right, just like Oxide worked more with Nvidia than AMD, and id has stated they worked with both daily, as well as Going on stage to demo Vulkan on a 1080 at Nvidia event

nVidia sold 77% of the discrete GPUs in Q1 2016.

Polaris uses an oudated architecture and need biased developer to even show any sign of competitiveness.

We will see of many biased developers can ignore the growing gaming notebook, HTPC and mITX market.

So all DX12 developers are biased now?

Every word in this sentence is completely untrue. To what purpose does a complete lie like this serve?

You forgot the most important market there, the console market. From game developers point of view the console market blows those three other categories out of the water by several orders of magnitude.

That is market share, not sold units. Meaning AMD outsold NVidia hence Nvidia lost market share and AMD went up.

That is not how marketshare numbers work. Marketshare numbers are based on number of units shipped.

Did you think marketshare numbers were number of units being used? How would that work?

Edit - It seems you think these market share numbers are cumulative? They are just based on number of units shipped that quarter, so Nvidia shipped 77% of the desktop discrete cards in Q1'16.

guys leave out the marketshare arguments. The 1060 and 480 are both good cards. Let the market decide what it wants and the upcoming quarters market share reports will reflect it.

Edit: Just tried it with the $439 msi 1070. Didn't work tells me it's deactivated. Damn it. Guess I'm waiting for the $399 gigabyte model. Unbelievable, I should have ordered a few days ago.

Anyway waiting can't be that bad I'm sure other coupons will come up.

YOU did this to me AMD. YOU reduced me to buying Nvidia... the first in my life. Because you could not bother to make enough stock. I've stressed out long enough trying to replace my aging 7770 as it is.

Have ordered from Jet.com before, if not there is a promo code "shop10" for first time buyers thats up to $50 off any GTX 1070. There is Zotac AMP Edition 1070 thats $450-promo so comes close to $400 before tax and you get some additional savings using no return option and using a debit card to purchase. You could also have no tax in some states.

I'll check it out but I'm pretty sure there will be tax.

I bought a gtx780 like that a few years ago.. I regretted that decision the entire time I owned it.. I still regret it.

Really? Why didn't you return it or resell it when it became clear that the product was not to your liking?

Well with Nitro preorders coming to $250 just for the 4gb version on Amazon I'm not sure it was even wise trying to get the 480 as a WoW gamer. Certainly though I try to back the underdog when possible to keep competition afloat.

Shows here $229 for a 4gb. Of course +tax depending where you are I don't know if it's greater than 8%, that's what it is where I live.

Wouldn't you have paid the same price as a 1060 on newegg without tax if that's what you really wanted?

$5 shipping but no tax at newegg. Free shipping but $24 tax on Amazon.

I feel a little better at having 6gb of vram instead of 4gb anyway.

It's still a decent card and you don't seem to play demanding games so it should last you at 1080p.

If you played more demanding games I would guess 480 would have been a better long term card since their drivers tend to improve over the life span. I'm sure you will enjoy it either way.

With the future proof argument, it's not just the current new titles have the RX 480 in the lead.

It's the fact that there is a historic precedent for that effect. NV likes to go to new architectures, they optimize their drivers for the most recent uarch. I had this same argument back in 2013, it's why I bought the 290 and 290X instead of the GTX 780 or 780Ti because I knew, by the end of 2014, newer games will excel on GCN and that's exactly what happened.

It's a mix of console GCN effect + NV's depreciation of older tech as they shift to a new uarch. AMD GCN ages better than the relative NV uarch of the time, FACT.

The trend will continue going forward because Polaris is also powering next-gen consoles that will define the gaming industry for the next 5 years.

Current PS4/Xbox targets 900/1080p gaming. Scorpio and Neo targets 4K gaming, you can apply your logic and see how 2017 AAA PC ports will need as much vram as possible to max out.

So there's a few factors that give the RX 480 a future proof edge. Deny all you want, I'll see you guys in 2017 and call out how you were all wrong, again.

I'm laughing now but in 3-4 years when I upgrade again or maybe before then I'll probably end up with another amd card and the gsync monitor. Anyways since I don't prefer any brand the same could be said for free sync.
