People bought 3gb 780Ti for $700 in 2013.Nobody should have any complaints about buying a 3gb $200 card in 2016 especially since you're getting $700 performance for $200.

I see your logic, but it's different now. 3GB did not hold back the 780 Ti at 1440p at its launch.

3GB already precludes the 1060 Core 1152 (or 1050) 3GB at 1080p today, pre-launch. Multiple games use over 3GB at this resolution for their highest textures, such as ROTTR, Mirror's Edge (even Ultra, IRRC), Hitman. This is nearly free image quality being lost due to VRAM. It'll come down to driver management I think, otherwise it's just a compromise card demanding sacrifice day 1.
 
Well, let's hope people learn not to jump to conclusions based on a their favorite brand's performance in a game.

Sure, but if some people should happen to do so anyway, we should also hope that said people are willing to change their conclusions once more data comes to light instead of stubbornly sticking with their initial conclusion (something Keysplayr is apparently against them doing).

Now where's the single slot cards. I still am sad they have seemingly died. Even the GTX 950 doesn't have one.

The 1060 is way too high power to do single slot really. You really need to get down to 55-60 W to do so comfortably (i.e. 750/750 Ti level TDP).

Hopefully we will get some with the 1050 (or whatever the top GP107 ends up being called) or the 460.

How much wattage was the 8800GT, which was single slot reference? TDP is 105W, so if that's reasonably accurate then the GTX 950 uses fewer and the 1050 likely will as well.

My brother is looking for a single slot HDMI 2.0 card for his media PC build, and we are at a complete loss. He'll have to use a riser, probably, since this market is ignored.

The codenames correspond to the two GPUs on the third slide (the left card is the iChill X3 card, and the right card is the Gaming card).

And seeing as they are both listed as 8-pin, I would say that dual 6 pin is unlikely.

How much wattage was the 8800GT, which was single slot reference? TDP is 105W, so if that's reasonably accurate then the GTX 950 uses fewer and the 1050 likely will as well.

The 8800 GT was 105W TDP as you mention, but actual power usage was about 90W. This isn't even the highest wattage single slot GPU I know of, that honor probably goes to this 7850 model (130W TDP, 110W in games).

Point is though, that whilst you can theoretically do single slot at power usages higher than 55-60W, the chance of any AIB partner actually bothering these days is practically non-existent.

What is the difference between the iChill X3 and gaming? Both have same clock speeds but one is 150W and other 120W?

Aah gotcha, didn't notice that card.

As for the difference between iChill X3 and Gaming, other than the cooler (which shouldn't affect the TDP), I have no idea.

Yeah thats why I was so confused. Or maybe they are just referring to the TDP as how much the cooler can handle which would make sense, but still odd considering the cards will have 8 pin but only able to handle 120w which would be impossible to hit even with a single 6 pin.

/shrug, more questions than answers lol
 
75+75=150W that can be supplied if you have a single 6 pin connector.

I suppose mild overclocking can get you up to and even past 150W?

So then you could add a second 6 pin connector for more overclocking?

But why not just an 8 pin then?

The cooling solution can't handle that though, Nvidia's reviewer guide specifically states that the TDP is the maximum the cooling solution can handle on average.

[TDP] represents the maximum amount of power the cooling system in a computer is required to dissipate...... but the maximum average power (?) would draw when running "real applications".

They define TDP as the amount of power, which is required to be dissipated by the cooling system. They certainly did not claim, that it is the power their cooling solution can handle. Hope the difference is understood.

If you haven't kept up with the news, two 6GB models were listed (pre-order) in the US for $259-263 a few days ago (now removed). Feel free to update your imaginary price tag. 😛

Edit: The 3GB model is 'hapenning', was leaked by a Japanese store yesterday, should be launched August 10th.

And yet the next line...

"This ensures the computer will be able to handle (?) all applications without exceeding its thermal envelope, or requiring a cooling system for the maximum theoretical power (which would cost more but in favor of extra headroom for processing power)

So the cooler can't handle much more on average, as it would cost more.

July 7th updates from NVIDIA:

- GTX 980-level performance, twice the energy efficiency in VR
- Average 15% faster and 75% more efficient than closest competitor
- GP106 GPU, 120W, $249 MSRP ($299 special limited Founder's Edition)

Let's ignore the fact that Sapphire Nitro RX 480 is listed at 175W TDP with a minor OC and there's plenty of overspecced models on AMD's side as well. This is obviously some sort of conspiracy from NVIDIA. 😱
