From the link:

"Those new prices kick in this Sunday, October 23."
Yeah i read that but i meant i don't think we will actually see a $170 card right away. Maybe a month or two from now. Demand is still high so no reason to reduce prices for board partners.

Well, the price drop is being done in response to 1050/1050 Ti, so AMD would want the new prices to be in place before those cards launch (25th). Of course what AMD wants, and what will actually happen may very well differ.

the 1050ti will be competing with itself. It fills the giant performance hole between the 460 and 470 also

rx 460 $100, gtx1050 $115, gtx1050ti $150, rx 470/gtx1060 3gb ~ $205
.
465 should appear soon since is full P11. That could be the opponent of 1050Ti

That's seems to be right along what Nvidia is claiming. Basically based on those numbers a 1050 is about 0-5% slower than a 960, and based on the slide from Nvidia it is roughly 55-60% faster than a 750 Ti, which would also equal it being about 5% slower than a 960 (the 960 is about 60-65% faster than a 750 Ti).
Am I reading that wrong? Because to me it looks like the 1050 is half the speed of the 960

Ok, so... any half-height / low-profile cards announced in the 1050 / 1050ti series? Or am I left holding out for a 1040 or RX 450?

Dammit Nvidia, if you would only release open source drivers for linux i would probably grab the 1050ti, as it's in the golden spot of performance/efficiency that one would use for gaming in linux (barely any aaa titles in linux) while having a compact system. Now i'm stuck waiting for amd to release something in that 460-470 gap.

I simply don't care about the "open source" part. I install the closed-source drivers for Linux, and I'm happy.

Well it's not a good choice for a distro hopper like me who is also ideologically leaning toward more open systems.

Take a 470, downclock it, play with power limit and you almost have a 1050Ti performance/watt

Why do you pretend that Pascal can't underclock/undervolt?

Well, there are no smallish pinless rx 470's and the overdrive stuff is not very well supported on linux, i think it's still in an experimental stage and only present in the >=4.8 kernel.

Still, if they won't release anything else, i might just go with an rx 470 eventually, because even though i do like the prospect of a small, efficient card like the 1050ti, i will not buy any nvidia cards until they open source their drivers on linux (probably won't ever happen).
