OMG, that's what I am going to get next. That thing will rock the sh!t out of Maya.

Not bad, I specifically looked UT scores, 108fps w/ FSAA/ansio(which is what counts to me), 9700 gets like 75, so that's pretty decent. I'll wait for Anand's review before I make any final judgement though. And watch out for the R350.

the Q3 score is weak (my 9700pro gets 105 at that rez with default high quality settings) and the UT2k3 scores are not too great as I had thought. My 9700Pro can get around 93 or so with those settings. The 9700Pro will likely have better IQ and such as well since ATI is known for having better IQ.

I will reserve judgement until I see a real true review, but what I've seen and read so far doesn't look that great IMO.

Yay, yet a waste of another PCI slot due to poor design. :| There must be a better way of implementing a cooling system! A videocard that takes up 2 slots is just plain silly and dumb! I have NO slots left in the back of my computer. The *only* way I, along with others that have full systems, would be to build a system soley for the card. NOT!

I hope my Ti4600 lasts forever...otherwise, R9700 Pro AIW, here I come. ;)

Wouldn't it be nice to know more than just the card. How well does the Geforce FX scale? Will it still be twice as fast as a Ti 4600 on a 2GHz machine as on a 3Ghz machine? Benchmarks are all very well, but you need more than just numbers. Plus I didn't see driver indications there either.

Their just the same benchmarks nVidia released back on the 20'th of Novermber..... they've been shown on a dozen sites now.
Personally, I'll wait for some independent tests before gauging it's performance. Benchmarks done by nVidia, on demos created by nVidia are hardly my idea of a realistal simulation of real world performance :)

Ya, this is a complete rehash of nVidia's marketing from Comdex. LOL, in the article they have watermarked all of their graphs "by neoseeker" yet at the beginning of the section they title it "nVidia's benchmarks".

And it's a FX not MX.

Actually you lose THREE slots - yes THREE

The AGP (Duh!)
PCI 1
PCI 2

PCI 1 - Completely obscured
PCI 2 - Half obscured

nVidia REALLY need to do what ATi have done with the R300 - simple and normal cooling

- in fact all the Radeon's has had normal cooling while the GeForce's have been getting crazier each time

I'm DEFINITELY going with ATi if nVidia can't wipe this off their feet.

(And I Have never owned an ATi card before - all 3Dfx and nVidia - but this will be the turning point - ATi are just sensible)

I'll be very suprised if cards with this mammoth cooling are the norm. I'm guessing 99% of the cards will have "normal" cooling, even the "ultra" version of the card.

fine, u guys don't get the geforce fx since u are all whining about how it takes up 2 slots, do u relize it will run cooler and keep your pc cooler? I think its a good design, i only use one pci slot anyways, so i frankly could care less. I'm sure no one is using 5 pci slots here.

i could care less how cool my video card or the rest of my pc runs as long as it is stable, i think most people will say the same.

Ypu might be surprised... I use all 5 PCI slots on my mainboard, and would use a 6'th if available.
Doubtlessly I'm the exception rather then the norm in this respect, but I sincerely doubt I'm the only one.
That said... sheer noise I a bigger worry for me then stealing a PCI slot, the ability to dynamically adjust the fan speed should help to ensure it's not too noisy when just doing basic office work.
But I shudder to think of noisy this board must be when doing 3D rendering work, gaming or anything else then may put a heavy load on the graphics card.

Personally i believe it will only be the 'Ultra' model with the excessive cooling however, I'm betting the regular NV30 will price in at about $399 MSRP with a more traditional cooling implementation.

Please note that this is a PREVIEW, like a gazillion others, not a REVIEW.

Using 5 or 6 PCI slots may not be the "norm", but then again, it's hardly the average user who will want the FX, it'll probably ve mainly those people using most of their PCI slots who want it, so nVidia may be up sh*t creek with that one. As well, how is the core made? I know ATi have gone for a flip-chip package, like with modern processors, but are nVidia going this route as well, or using the traditional methods for GPU's? If they did go flip chip, would it be any better (for cooling especially in its case)?

I belive nVidia is using FCBGA as well.

I'm not sure why people are getting hung up on the cooling. I agree that if the card needs to block 2 PCI slots to work... we'll that's dumb. I doubt the actual cards will require this type of cooling and CM's will use whatever cooling they think will sell. Just like they do now.

As far as using all PCI slots, doesn't the 1st PCI slot share IRQ with AGP and the second share IRQ with RAID? I know WinXP and ACPI handle IRQ's a bit differently now but I've never ever used PCI 1 or 2 in any PC i've built.

Rand - what on earth are you using 5 PCI slots for... NIC, Sound, 2nd Video, Modem, ?

Paper performance != real life performance. I'll reserve judgement until I see the card in proper action.

As for the cooling, I have a gut feeling that it'll be changed to something more sensible when the boards actually start shipping.

Twice the performance of a G4600TI Huh? Hmm, well R9700P has three times the performance in real high-end benches so I suppose that means the GFX is more than six months behind. That is, if it is available by the latest postponed schedule

Oh and is it just me or does NVIDIA's little DX8 vs DX9 plant demo actually show that the former is better? The latter looks more cartoonish.
