GeForce 9800 - NVIDIA has the Press by the Throat

NVIDIA has finally gotten a strong grip on the media's throat with the selective information and press releases they are putting out. It's no wonder we can't speculate on the NV55 / Gxx that we call the GeForce 9800 series, because they simply haven't provided with a codename yet. The G92 is officially the 8700GTS, the G98 is some lower end model priced at $59, and the G86 is unconfirmed? I'm still placing high bets that they are going to call it the G90, but then again I can't be sure of it. As for a November 2007 release date, I would agree that it's highly probable considering the company's history of high end cards, as well as staying competitive with AMD/ATi's new upcoming lineup. Additionally, German based CryTek has given some hints about working exclusively with Intel and NVIDIA to give gamers the "best possible experience", meaning that Intel would release its Extreme Edition of the 45nm Penryn "Yorkfield" and "Wolfdale" chips in November, and NVIDIA would accordingly release the GeForce 9800 series.

Anyways, congrats to NVIDIA for keeping their release info on the "down low". As much as you all want a definitive answer, I'm very sure that it will be a November release for the GeForce 9800.

Actually no , Crytek the only few developer that has tweaked the game for ATI and Nvidia GPU. AMD and Crytek has plan for another animated series like the one they did with Farcry but now on Crysis engine.

Also the main reason the game isn't coming out next month is because of when they were planning a release date they couldn't release it along side Halo 3 or GTA4 which sells 5million copies each in the 1st month and take all the media and press attention. Halo 3 took late September and GTA 4 took October (which got delayed in July). Which was left with either December or November.

ALso releasing a Crysis Demo on 25th will get no attention even if it is the best looking game since every media and press will be covering about HALO 3 launch and how it sold over 2million copies. Reason why its shooting yourself in the foot to release it along side. Crytek want to sell the game and get some front page article and it wouldn't get them if major more popular were releasing along side of it.

Also you sound like like fanboy :!

For an audio freak you sure do care a lot about how nvidia handles what information is released and what isn't.

Well, GTA 4 doesn't ship until March of next year...that's not even a factor here. Becides that it's a console only game at this point so wouldn't have impact in the PC market that would be looking at Crysis. Not every PC gamer has a console.

So, what's the point of naming games when I'm trying to make a point about NVIDIA's reclusiveness from the press? The point is, they haven't officially announced a codename for the GeForce 9800, and my prediction is that it will be G90. I also predict that they will follow through with the November launch regardless of how well the GeForce 8 series is doing, primarily to raise competition with AMD/ATi and to follow through with the repitition of a high-end GPU November launch.

There is poster in XtremeSystems forum ("BenchZowner") that claims to be a journalist being bound by the NDA, but he's suggesting there really indeed is a 384-bit, 768MB, 24xx MHz S.D. Frequency, non-GX2 monster coming out this November...but he can't reveal anymore other than that.

Being a sports fan I'm pretty leery about "supposed insiders", but if this ends up not being true come November 12, I'm going to sign up on that forum and let him have it. =P

Owned.

Anyways...

I seriously think that this time around, NVIDIA's GPU names are all wacko-jacko. But then again...I guess according to the OP's post, they really want it that way. But oh well, I guess I don't really have to worry. I'll just push my EVGA card like crazy so I can step up by November (or whenever the so-called "9800 series" wil l come out.

It looks like NV is doing their best job ever in leaking (mis)information to media. Even the in-the-know folks (who were/are very close to NV in the past) have different ideas this time around. I still believe (or want to believe) that there will be a high-end release before the year ends. I mean, my busy personal life notwithstanding, the industry has been absolutely BORING (and so has the forums, to an extent).

I do understand that NV has no reason to release a high-end product for the short-term, but I hope they see further beyond. When people lose enthusiasm on the bleeding-edge tech, it will hurt NV because that's where NV has excelled everyone else.

From what I understand the GeForce 9900 (not 9800) will have 640 scaler processors, a 512-bit memory interface and come with 1GB of DDR4 running at 3GHz with a core clock of 850MHz. It should run Crysis at 1600x1200 with all eye candy on at about 300 fps.

What is audiofreaks post actually about? He's trying to be a prophet whilst patting NVIDIA on the back? When AMD doesn't release benchmarks or any info whatsoever on Barcelona, they suck, but when Nvidia, closely related to Intel, doesn't give out any information about their upcoming videocard, that should be here in 1-2 months according to their roadmap, they are awesome instead ?

Err...is this a joke? That's @5x the number of shaders in the G80 running at a higher clock speed. If these are true scalar shaders like the one's on the G80 unlike R600s branched shaders, that would make the card 3-5x faster than the G80 which is much faster than the expected 2-3x performance increase.......

Uhh it's a joke, while sarcasm doesn't carry well on the internet, the 300 FPS comment gives it away if nothing else 😛

I'd really like to see hardware makers releasing some kind of general official time-frame for their launches. I'd love to spend 600USD on a 9800-9900 GTX, but I'd only wait if it were coming out by Nov. If I waited for it, and then it turns out the release date was actually Feb. 08, I'd be pissed. I would rather have just bought an 8800GTX this week.

ATTENTION HARDWARE COMPANIES, SPELL OUT YOUR RELEASE DATES PLEASE! I know, nobody that matters will read this and care... Oh well.

I dont much care about the actual hardware, but whether the companies are doing their part in providing drivers so the damn cards run. All the performance in the world doesnt mean much if I cant use it. And right now it seems NVidia gives a hell of a lot more concern to what hardware they have and not how it interacts with the rest of the system.

NVIDIA would be dumb to do that right now, they are playing the market in a smart way. They are still selling a lot of GTS/GTX's if they announce now those sales will drop big time, unless their announcement was coupled with an appropriate price drop.

They will wait until the last possible moment, which sucks for us but is in their interest.

Ya I figured it was so it was worth clarifying. Still the 300 FPS comment isn't so unrealistic given the bogus specs, but I guess the # of transistors required to hit that kind of shader count would be more of a giveaway. Honestly though, with the kind of ground-breaking improvements Intel and NV have been churning out the last 12-24 months nothing would really surprise me anymore.

It goes both ways though. There's just so many moving parts in the PC industry and everyone's trying to crank out new parts on ever-changing specs to maximize their profits. I've experienced many of the problems you're referrring to on my current rig dealing with NV drivers and chipsets, Creative's X-Fi, Vista and various games and I can honestly say none of the problems I saw can be nailed down to any of the specific hardware/software vendors but when taken as a whole, serious problems can arise. My experience with this rig has shown NV is actually very good about fixing the problems on their end with their GPUs, with MS/Vista and NV's chipset support leaving a lot to be desired.

Isn't the average timeline is a fall refresh followed by a new release? Also, why not any previews? It's bugging me because I want to do a whole new system build (can't play the new games!) and can afford it right now but with the uncertainty in the launch of any new video cards is causing me to hold off on the whole build. It's the most expensive part of the build so it gets the most care.

I am in the same situation, although only with the video card. I'm ready to upgrade now but don't want to end up regretting that I didn't wait for two months if something better comes out.

get the CPU , RAM , MOBO , Hard drive , Case , Optical Drive , Sound card , Speaker , Mouse , Keyboard and Monitor 🙂

Plug in your old card or buy a used 6600gt $35 till 8900GTX comes out

If the rumored HD2900 Pro is a full-blown (but underclocked) HD2900XT by the end of September, then the decision might not be so hard. 😉

Of course, I'm pessimistic, so I'm guessing it'll only have 256-bit memory bandwidth.

That's the problem. I have to buy all new. The only thing I can reuse from my 3.5 yr old pc is the case.

I'm hanging on for a few more months before completely redoing my system. Maybe I'll keep my case 🙂 Other than that, everything's gonna be new.

Me too.

About a month ago I was completely ready to pull the trigger on a new rig from top to bottom and take the Vista plunge. But Penryn/Phenom are almost here, we're transitioning between DDR2/DDR3, some kind of new NVIDIA GPU is on the way.

I think I'm gonna wait until the end of the year, in the meantime I already got my PSU, optical drives, and case.
