I'm hanging on for a few more months before completely redoing my system. Maybe I'll keep my case 🙂 Other than that, everything's gonna be new.

Me too.

About a month ago I was completely ready to pull the trigger on a new rig from top to bottom and take the Vista plunge. But Penryn/Phenom are almost here, we're transitioning between DDR2/DDR3, some kind of new NVIDIA GPU is on the way.

I think I'm gonna wait until the end of the year, in the meantime I already got my PSU, optical drives, and case.

lol 😡! you should have waited on the PSU too :!

new 2x 8pin + 2x 6pin PSU may be required for 8900 SLI.

I got that, 😀

I got one of those Antec Quattro 850's specifically for that reason.

I got in on the Buy.com deal, $99 after MIR.

This one seems to work fine:

Is the 8-pin connection rated to carry more power than the 6-pin one? There was some talk a while ago about the 2900XT not actually using the two extra pins for power.

The 8-pin connection is supposed to carry double the power of the 6-pin connection (i.e. 150w vs. 75w). The HD2900XT is supposed to work fine with 2x6-pin IF you do not overclock. As to whether that adapter will function within spec on PSUs that already supply enough power to the 12v rails, that was never really resolved; however, it has worked fine on my PC for months.

Are there any adapters with an extra molex connector or something attached to the two new pins (similar to the 6-pin PCIE adapters, which split up into two molexes)? That would seem to solve the issue of having too much current carried over the same pins.
