JAG, you still considering buying the 9800GTX's? cause at this point its just a 8800GTS 512 with a few minor bug fixes and an extra SLI connector.

check post #49 at the bottom of the page...

It's not gx2, but might help.
edit: BTW I'm starting to believe all this 9800GTX fud could be fake. It all seems to be originating for Expreview and Nordichardware. People are saying expreview is nvidia biased. They could be spreading rumors to make everyone (including ati) think that the 9800gtx is going to suck, and inducing them into releasing their technology sooner in an unprepared fashion. The only thing that makes me thing the 9800gtx may not be just an "overclocked 8800gts512 G92" is that it has two power connectors. Why all that power if these gpuz screens and specs are real??????

So then VR-Zone would be lying too by that theory...

...and its not that much of a power increase.
9800GTX is 168W
8800GTS 512 is 145W

plus it's an extra 1.5inches of PCB, what exactly is in that new space? If it's just HDMI circuitry and a second SLI goldfinger, then it's going to suck.

Feel free to compare the two:

Just Ignore the GFLOPS as that is obviously borked.
You mean like when Intel bailed AMD out?Originally posted by: geokilla
IMO, what NVIDIA is doing now is exactly the same thing what I heard they were doing with the GeForce FX series. Maybe they're bombing this series to prevent AMD/ATI from going bankrupt.

Well then would you believe that perhaps ^^this^^ is NOT nvidia's *top* card ... the "ultra" with another +20% performance for another $33% price premium - i.e. $649-$699?
:Q
why not? nvidia is not going to go down without a fight to r700 ... far from it ... they *always* have their 'ultra' waiting in the wings.
... and You guys will eat them up ... and don't forget what [nv] Rollo let slip:

Back when ATI owned everything with the 9700 PRO they still bothered to release a brilliant 9800 PRO even though Nvidia didnt have competition

Intel said, look, we're making obscene profits with these P4/netburst gimmicks, so we'll just dummy up for now and let you gain legally significant market share in key areas with your AMD64 crap. But... in return... when you begin to cut into our profits... you've got to cripple one of your future CPU lineups with some sort of TLB errata or other silly thing.
Conspiracy theories are fun because the facts are just the icing on the cake.

nV is a marketshare whore indeed. Competition or lack thereof plays a role. But we're responsible too...

Well, bad news for PC enthusiasts, good news for me. It means my $200 8800GT was a good investment.
not really.
you cant tri sli the 8800GT
you should be able to trisli the 9800GTX
If you guys are complaining about the price... wait for the GX2. :X
and it does matter on me if i can get trisli or not. i intend on running it on a 1080p HDTV for gaming and movies. thats 1920x1080 resolution here.
The 9800GTX should offer a lot more than just smoother framerates than the 8800GTS 512, it should be a dominant card (at least 30-40% more performance than the current 8800GTX).
