Quick question: How do I delete the movie trailer? I couldn't find it in the add/remove part of the control panel. Thanks....

CURSE YOU, nVidia!!!!
According to the same side who first published today's date for the new driver release, it was "partially" wrong:
There won't be a new driver, but acceleration "allready works e.g. with PowerDVD6 and the nVidia-player". Unfortunately only MPEG2 is accelerated...
DAMMIT!!!
That will be my last nVidia graphics card, even if ATI should be much slower!!! (However, the contrary seems to be the case...)

P.S.:
Surely some will answer like "Oh, he is angry, nVidia will be terribly afraid and loose the incredible huge amount of money he would have spent...". Please, keep your improper sarcasm to yourselves...

Hereby I say good-bye to this thread, I've had enough...

Hmm until your post other day about 20th it was said to be 21st after end of november one didnt come, i will be not visiting here once i get driver or refund, and may i add i took chaintech to cleaners last jan 04 got new card etc, well i do same again, pity its nvidias prob not the card makers but chaintech can then take it up with nvidia.

About Nvidia decoder, yes i tried and it was buggy and acted up, powerdvd6 is my fav powerdvd always has been, although like rollo said it dont claim how many % it will lower cpu, but it not lower even 1% now so i got a legal case under UK law and shop is liable for 1 year from purchase, card has 2 years manu warrenty also.

Nvidia are wankers on this one inc that asshole that not return my call after telling me load shite

I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS... I guess I should have bought the 6600GT instead of going all out and getting the 6800 GT.... This is total crap... I don't understand how nVidia can get away with this... who knows maybe they wont... Sorry everyone... I needed to vent and didn't know where else to do it... I guess I'll call eVGA and yell at them. :(

P.S. in case anyone doesn't know what I am ranting about... nVidia has made their offical announcement reguarding the WMV9 hardware decoding on the 6800 cards and none of the 6800 cards except the PCI-E standard 6800 (non ultra and GT) and 6800 LE. I guess I'm SOL with my APG 6800 GT. See the link here.

I got a 6800 card to, and dissapointed like most of ya about this issue, its a bad thing that Nvidia have done here, and i just turned from ATI.

I tried to install the nvidia dvd codec thing, it works like beeeeep, they write it work when usin WMP 9 or later ´(i have version 10), but the codec dont show up in the process line as nvidi claims, i then found out that it consisted of a mediaplayer, hmm, then tried that, it did work, well at least a bit better, but still a bit stuttering in the video, but the audio wsa even worse than before, on the possitive side, i can now play all files through this player in fullscreen without corruption like i have with all other players :-(

What can i say? well i can´t send the card back, but unless there is a driver soon, then i will spread the word, thats all i can do, but if plenty of people do it, then Nvidia will be in trouble.

Just for reference, the PNY 6800GT boxes don't advertise WMV acceleration; just MPEG. I bought these as soon as they were available from retail.

So, I assume they are making us pay another $20 to get some of the things that were listed on the box? So, first they advertise something. Then only make part of that available. And on top of that, they make us pay for it. Man, they are really asking for it.

Well okay so now it is official.

67.03 contains "PureVideo"

http://www.nzone.com/object/nz...ds_winxp_2k_67.03.html

71.03 gets released sometime today

both have the following disclaimer

To fully experience NVIDIA PureVideo technology in GeForce 6 Series GPUs, the following software support is required:

3:2 pull down, MPEG-2 acceleration, and advanced de-interlacing require the NVIDIA DVD Decoder with Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center Edition
VMR Scaling requires VMR9 support found in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
Additional information about the NVIDIA DVD Decoder is available online at www.nvidia.com/object/dvd_decoder.html

In otherwords you have to buy the DVD decoder to enable a feature that was always plugged for the card in the first place. I think that's a bit sucky. You don't expect to shell out for a top of the range card only to be fleeced later on because they stuffed up their implementation.

You can download a copy of the DVD decoder here - reading the description it does nothing different than it would do on a non-nvidia platform..

Hmm lost me as a customer

Dacull, an even bigger problem is that you really need a Geforce 6600 class CPU or you won't get WMV9 hardware decoding; almost all 6800 owners are SOL. It's really too bad I sold my Radeon 9700 on Ebay; had I known things were going to turn out this way I'd have put it back in and got rid of my card (I also got an NV Silencer 5, now useless). Now, I have to ditch my card and find a 6600GT AGP if I want the problem solved. If I do so, I guarantee will be the last nVidia card that sits in my machine for the forseeable future.

Well, when I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

I honestly thought they'd have some sort of encode/decode acceleration for WMV9, guess I shouldn't have taken the "GeForce 6 series gpus" on those documents to mean "not AGP 6800s".

Sorry if I gave any of you false hope. :(

according to the chart, the 6800 gt/ultra pci-e don't have wmv acceleration either....but the 6800 standard does. oh well :( :( :( :(

heck, half the PCIe 6800's (namely the 6800Ultra and GT) don't even contain the support, so it's far more than just the AGP owners. The only 6800 owners listed as having support are those with PCIe 6800NU's and PCIe 6800LE's.

To all who bought their cards through CompUSA (like I did), they don't even carry a 6600GT of any vendor that you can exchange for; maybe if you're lucky you'll avoid the restocking fee, otherwise there's Ebay. At the moment, seems like a lot of us will be SOL.

Well at least it's official. No more waiting and hoping. NV stalled, BS'd and still ended up playing us for chumps.

Wait...forgive me....I'm a little confused.

I thought that this was going to be a new driver that was released that would enable this? Is it not? Do I have to buy the DVD Decoder to get the purevideo fix? If not, what exactly do I need to download to get this? Can I not use my 71.20 drivers?

Thanks for consolidating.

I'll have to check this out. I just bought a Gigabyte 6800NU last week (hoping a fix was going to happen) and it arrived today. I also got the NVDVD decoder on CD when I bought a Windows MCE2005 bundle from pcalchemy.com. I'll be putting my first ever system together tonight (from scratch: A64 3200, ASUS A8V) and I'll see what happens....
