say what??

I got a Geforce 3, so I'm good for a while

GF3 Ti 200 myself

<< try playing the yavin swamp level in 1600x1200@32bit color in Jedi Knight 2, we are talking graphic intensive, my geforce 2 gts couldnt handle it. i bumped down to 16 bit and 1024x768 >>

what do you expect at 1600x1200. me dosent think its really neciarry to run a game at that high a res. i run everything at 1152x864 and my Readon 64 DDR handles it fine anything else is overkill

<< I'm sure the Geforce 5 will be well out of my price range until the GeForce 7 comes out. >>

How true 🙂

I've got a Geforce3 as well. I'm not in any rush but new releases are always cool.
The article says that the dude DID NOT RELEASE ANY NAME for the new chip and I believe I heard that the "geforce" series would die after 4. So I don't think it will be called geforce5, but prove me wrong if you can.

I can play the entire game except that Swamp also @ highest detail and 1600X1200... but that dazm swamp in that game kills it (GF3 Ti200 on Northwood 1.8gig)

playing the game isnt necessary either, i like high res and i like the fact that when i run 1600x1200 my 2nd monitor doesnt get screweup because the screen size pushes all the windows around so i can see all my trillian windows and my email while i play a game.

does the fog look nice for you, it looks like sh!t for me on my gf2gts i love the effect where the rain hits the lightsaber and the little spurts of steam rise.

i read it too but i figured that it was the easiest way to refer to it in the post since they didnt give a new name. plus i didnt think people would challenge me over it. you wanna fight or something?

<< I'll believe it when I see it. It's still vaporware...like the Matrox "G1000." >>

I've never heard of the G1000, but I remember these vaporware products sounding really cool when they were announced:

The VooDoo 5 6000
The Rendition V4000
Whatever that thing that Bitboys Oy! said that they were working on.

Anyway, I learned a good lesson from those press releases. Never believe that the product really exists until it starts to arrive on store shelves.

Lol, after I read my post it does sound kind of confrontational. It wasn't meant to be that way and I think your title suits the thread extremely well, logical and concise and lets people know what they're gonna see... THE SUCCESSOR. I meant like if someone actually knows what the next chip will be called tell me, cuz I wanna know. I was trying to agree with the other dude (LeRocks) that was trying to find where he read his stuff.

Anyway, good post in general. I still wanna hear more about Matrox's supposed G1000.

Oh I read somewere sorry cant remember were that they Nvidia was going to ship the GeForce 5 for only $149.99

Oh I just remembered were I read this info it was in my dreams.

that was the lamest joke ever. 🙂😛

<< I'm sure the Geforce 5 will be well out of my price range until the GeForce 7 comes out. I'm on a GeForce 2 GTS right now that I got an awesome deal for when I bought it, and I just ordered a Radeon 8500 LE for $125. Under $150 is my sweet spot. 🙂 >>

i think over $100 for a video card is a waste of money. price will drop so quickly that you won't even have time to resell at your purchased price 😉
>>

The price on everything drops quickly, so you have spend something if you want something decent. If I was worried about reselling things I buy, I would have never bought a computer in the first place, and I definetely never would have bought a car. Besides, I never resell stuff, way too much of a pain in the ass to me. $125 for a 8500 LE is a bargain, and there is a specific game (Morrowind) that supports it's features that made me buy it right now. Otherwise I'd still be happy with my GeForce 2 GTS. Plus I wanted to get back close to that 2D quality I used to have with my Matrox G400 (imagine that, someone actually concerned with 2D!). I noticed quite a step down in 2D quality when I went from the Matrox to the GeForce 2, I hope this ATI can get that back, because I read a ton of text on my PC every day, plus I do a lot of work in Visio and Rational Rose for school.

nvidia has a schedule of 6 month release cycles.
>>

Sounds like MSF product cycles, doesn't it?

I find many things in common between Microsoft and nVIDIA.

you think you all are hotshots with your GF3's and whatnot?

Ive got a Creative Labs 16MB RivaTNT. EAT THAT YOU SLUTS

i have my eye on the GF2 GTS for 50 over at newegg though...i need to prepare for GTA3 😛

im not sure what to say to that. thank you?

<< im not sure what to say to that. thank you? >>

I was referring to the mindset in Microsoft Solutions Framework (Linkie) which states that it is better to ship a major/minor version in a short time schedule in a regular basis, so that the team repeatedly enjoys the feeling of successfully shipping products on time.

The 6-month product cycle of nVIDIA products seem to be correspondent to this.

I'm still on Matrox G450 DH.

*runs*

That's a great card for it's day. I used to love my Matrox G400 DH, the quality it output to my TV when playing DVD's was damn near as good as my standalone DVD player.

<< cool i was gonna get a gf4 4200 but i will wait for this and it should have corona support built in. >>

Does it support both encoding and decoding?
