"Featuring GTX 600 Series performance improvements"

Unlike AMD it's all the same thing pretty much, however 15 to 7 percent means by the time it trickles down to the 4xx series and the 2xx series and the 8xxx series it's pretty much nothing.

Up to 15%? They are trying to take away from the AMD thunder but it just feels like a pretty weak performance increase now. I guess I'll wait for some reviews to reveal the true numbers. BF3 and BL2 are all I'm curious about atm.

Free performance is always good anyway.

Ironic both AMD and NV pull out performance increases 1 day apart. ;)

Best thing of the new branch:
-Automatic LOD-adjustment in SGSSAA

-Users can still manually overwrite LOD-values in Nvinspector if desired

-Finally all LOD-adjustments (new automatic or manual) working in DX10/11 too

Thanks! This is good news -- and thanks again for the posters that did take the time to sign the petition for this!:)

Dark Athena, LOL? That game's over three years old - how the heck is it getting the lowest fps, and why is it even on this list? Oh, now I see:

Source: http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/articles/nvidia-geforce-310-33-beta-drivers-released/

The Skyrim bump looks nice and potentially relevant, but let's be honest, this is not a "Performance Driver" like AMD's recent release, and nVidia was really reaching by quoting those "up to" numbers.

I agree with this...some of the performance increases seem unlikely -- 15% for nvidia? 20% for AMD?? Seems a little disingenuous -- this applies to both amd and nvidia "performance" drivers. I also find Dark Athena odd, why in the world would they include that? Whatever though. Some nice features in this new driver.

Now I need to decide if I want to bother with windows 8 for my gaming rig. I'm leaning towards a NO so far.

Yeah, some issues with the new PhysX-package are showing up.

From older games (which use PhysX, even if it's the CPU-only libraries) not starting to second long-freezes in Borderlands 2.

If anyone got trouble with it, try reinstalling PhysX manually in the extracted setup-folder ("/PhysX/PhysX_9.12.0904_SystemSoftware.msi") or rolling back to an older PhysX-version.

I wonder though if it's the driver+PhysX-combination or PhysX alone.
As in - does this package have the same issues if you use it with an AMD graphics card (since you still need PhysX on such a system for games that use the CPU-only part of it)?

I get this as well, I will try uninstalling the new physx and using the previous version to see if that does anything.

Using highest IG settings: No AO, No Blur, SMAA @ Ultra instead of FXAA, PhysX on High.

Edit: Using the 64 bit Windows 8 driver version if that matters (On windows 8 of course)

WoW seems to run a little better in fullscreen windowed mode (which I use to alt tab quickly to mumble/skype for pvp), so far cities seem a little more fluid. Of course those areas are generally cpu and not gpu bound, so its odd. But seems a little smoother somehow.

2% in a few.... so nice!

It's just Silverforce trolling like the true troll he is. Hey go spit some more false info and then claim you don't have time to verify everything you say. Or better yet, overclock your PC higher and then complain about how much power consumption costs where you live. Enjoy!

Performance for free? Any power consumption numbers?

Isn't it a bit late to be getting excited over what will soon become, a last gen product? Isn't that why the prices have dropped, and large game bundles are offered? Inventory needs to be cleared.

Switching to the older version of PhysX helped, but it still happens - albeit noticeably less frequently.

I'd first try uninstalling PhysX and then reinstalling the newest package bundled with the beta driver as mentioned before (should be in the PhysX-folder where the setup extracted the files to) - seems to work for users on Guru3D. Or even install an older one first and then overwrite with the newest one.

If that doesn't help you should start rolling back to an earlier version.

However in the same thread there still seem to be fps and GPU-usage issues with UT3's PhysX-map for example (which didn't start before troubleshooting).

Nvidia better gets cracking on those glitches.

*edit* Well in Borderlands 2's case it could very well be not Nvidia's fault, since they mentioned that Gearbox is responsible for low performance in the DLC areas (see in the comments here).

I just downloaded the new PhysX version and testing now.

Graphics driver 306.97 and PhysX version 9.12.0613

On high i'm still finding area's with big drops in fps at medium it much better.

Are you getting pausing like its loading textures on high with alot on screen?

I did a clean install and wiped everything prior to installing, I tried to revert back to 306.97 (physx installer) but it still happens :(

I'll try your suggestion.

The pausing happens when nothing is going on, in combat with effects popping off like crazy it's perfectly fine. It's always right before combat starts or shortly after where it will freeze for a second then come back online like nothing happened.

Do you think you had SLI stutter before and now its gone? I can't think of how the 680s could be causing jitters in WoW other than stutter.

No, I don't. I'm only talking about cities and crowded quest hubs. Obviously wow is ridiculously fast except in areas that are cpu limited (IE CITIES) , yet they seem slightly smoother. I could be imagining it. I don't know, your mileage may vary.

I cannot go back to a old display driver cause i'm using a 600 series card for physx

I did however go back to 9.11.0621 physx and performance does seem better.

Will continue testing.

I meant switched back to 306's PhysX version, sorry that was confusing I was still using the new 310 driver.

306 was 9.12.0604

310 is 9.12.0904

I had freezing often with 0904, less with 0604, however it was still there.

Going to try installing 0904 again from the msi package.

9.11.0621 combo gives better performance for me.

Will test the new beta and both of those Physx versions maybe later tonight.

Gonna take a break to play abit now and continue checking my fps in other areas of the game.

Wow, I still don't see how with a 4.8GHz i7 and dual 680s how it can still get to the "choppy" stage (i'm thinking 40ish fps). I have to think its the CPU. My nehalem @4.0 paired with my 5850 (AMD is weak with WoW), and I think I get 20-25ish during peak times in capital cities (ultra settings @1200p).

Have you tried using just one 680 and seeing if that improves? Maybe WoW is bad at SLI. It would be frustrating to think you can't get complete smoothness with a monster setup like that.

Lol. :)

Gotta love free performance upgrades, I'd love to see a new round of benches with the newest performance drivers from both companies and a comparrison with launch drivers from both. Are you listening Ryan? ;)

Yes it was quite funny how this forum reacted even though many credible websites tested it.
I know right! Just glad that AMD is kicking butt and forced Nvidia to react. To bad Nvidia's drivers aren't as good though..I'd put my $$$ on the 7970 for the WIN! ():)

Credible websites tested if it was too late in this generation to get excited about a performance bump, and if the game bundle with low priced cards is a desperation move to clear inventory on AMD's part?
