You mean back on the alpha kits 5 months ago? Since then they've gone to beta kits to final kits, the final game is locked at 60fps.

so those are cut scene screenshots? Not actual game play? Poo! They look hot, but a cut scene is just a little pre rendered vid isn't it?

That doesn't mean the next MGS will be as good, or that GoW won't be better in all aspects though.

No thats why I mentioned in engine twice lol.

Cut scenes are done within the game. Most games do them these days, only japanese games are still saturated with CGI cutscenes.

Eat your heart out MGS4? Sounds like the words of someone planning only to buy 1 console and trying to justify their purchase ahead of time. ;)

No offense, MGS has never been about graphics but just about some really excellent gameplay and story telling. It is nice that the 4th one looks as good as it does, but it is just icing. Gears of War on the other hand, has nothing going for it at this point, except graphics. And I've yet to see a decent video from someone actually playing the game yet.

No I may very well own a PS3 as well...hell its a year apart so its not like I won't be able to afford it. I owned a PS2 but sold it once I got my Xbox....and a HDTV. PS2 looked hideous on it. I don't like japanese games...if that explains anything and PS2 didn't have much for me except GTA, which was then on Xbox.

Anyway I just hate the way Sony markets things and builds up the hype machine. They let us down with the PS2 and what it can do, and if current events mean anything it will happen for the PS3 as well. Killzone was the worst. Completely fabricated but we had to find out from the game developer, Sony claimed up and down it was real time at E3. And they throw out random figures like "2 times faster than Xbox 360" or "3 times faster" - MGS4 also had no proof it was running on real hardware, though the really crappy environment textures makes me think otherwise this time around - it was probably a real game build but it definitely wasn't running on a PS3.

And there's quite a few, at least half a dozen, Gears of War gameplay videos from the alpha and beta kits. Team Xbox and IGN should have em. Gears of War is a cross between a stealth game and an action FPS. It's very realistic....i.e. if you don't have cover to hide behind, or covering fire from a squad mate when you leave the cover, you will die.

1 and 3 look like "rendered with the game engine" type of shots, possibly for a completely scripted cutscene. I can see #2 being actual gameplay level of screenshot.

Here is a video of the game being played. You can see the guy sitting there with the controller, playing the actual game on a HDTV.

The game looks like its going to be awesome. I just hope they clean up the fire effect which I'm sure they will.

EDIT: direct link

Ill believe it when I see it. Every game I played/looked at made a terrible impression. Any video Ive seen of any game since still has the same problems. If its supposed to come out in two months, Id have expected to see the locked at 60fps videos already, but alas, I have not.

you should also keep in mind, this game is only running on one core out of the xbox360's 3 cores.

From watching the videos, I'm kind of liking the "over the shoulder" view of combat. It's something different that gives a better view. Hope that's going to be the way the game actually is.

thats the actual game being played, so yes, thast how its going to be. RE4 got a warm welcoming introducing that viewpoint in that game. I don't think many other games have used it, or used it as well as RE4 did. I still have yet to play RE4 though, but I hear its awesome.

GOW looks like it has very great potential. And again, that game is running on just 1 of the 3 xbox360's cores in that video.

You might be surprised to find out that many games will not be using all of the cores. If the RAM and GPU are the bottlenecks, using more cores is not going to help.

yea but the point i'm making is (which I guess I was just assuming everyone knew since I did heh), that with the dev kits they had (that weren't final yet) they were only able to work with 1 core. its not that they just chose to work with only 1 core, its that it was the only option at the time.

So I atleast expect them to attempt to get the other cores working on the game heh.

I dunno... I'll believe it when I see it.

I don't doubt that all those screenshots are in-engine shots, but that doesn't mean they aren't pre-rendered (ie won't look that great when you are actually playing it).

I have a hard time feeling "let down" by the PS2 considering I own over 50 games for it. But that concept is often lost on this site, considering most people here are more concerned about the technical aspects of a console than the actual games created for it.
