been using this cooler for about a month on my k7s5a. It's a great price and alternative to 7k rpm fans. It's been keeping my athlon xp 1500+ nice and cool, overall very happy and a great buy.

anyone know what a good HSF combo would be for overclocking an xp 1600+ to about 1800mhz?

i was thinking of an AX-7 heatsink, but those suckers are about $30!

Cool beans, been waiting for this and the Alpha 8942 to come back in stock at SVC. Hehe, both my babies are getting new heatsinks this week :)

For your experts out there, would you recommend the GC-68 for the xp2000 or the Igloo from Newegg, thx for your time and insight.

Another question, I have to antec smart fans, could I take the stock Fan and use it for a case fan (big enough)? Then use one of the antec smart fans for the fan with the GC 68? Thx again.

I lapped mine.... 300/600/1500 after the 300 I could see how porly they were surfaced 1st one was real bad. Looks like it made ~2c difference though, these are nice with a panaflo on them they beat the snot out of the old cheap HSF's I had with 60MM noisy fans.

If you have the sandpaper and 20 extra minutes do the lap.

I've replaced the stock fans with the "Clear Temp controlled LED" 80 mm's sold at SVC and love it. The temp on my 1600's hover in the mid to upper 40's (C) running SETI 24/7 (100% processor load). This is using Artic Silver 3. I haven't lapped them yet, but they don't look very polished...and vary from batch to batch.

Good Luck all...it's a great heatsink for the price...nice and cool and quiet, compared to the 60mm whiners! :D

No way.. My AX-7 owns your little GC-68. Let's see:
Your Rig:
Duron 850
No case (exposed to outside)
and ambient temp of 22*C, CPU at 46*C

My Rig:
Athlon 1.4
Chieftec Case
and ambient temp of 42*C, CPU at 65*C

see difference? Anyway GC-68 is a great HSF though. Considering AX-7 costs $30 shipped from SVC. (I got my AX-7 for $20 shipped new on FS/FT:p)

MPJA adds actual UPS Ground charges after the order is placed, so it's reasonable shipping.
Well.. I don't have to worry about what they will charge for shipping because I just got a call from a CSR at MPJA and they said that they were sorry, but they no longer carry the Panaflo fans. :(

I want to rephrase my request for a Panaflo fan.

Does anyone know of a deal on a Panaflo fan that has the 3 Pin connector? I've been hearing that BG Micro ships their Panaflo's with a 2 pin connector and you have to do something to the fan to convert it over. I'd rather not have to deal with this.

Thanks again.

I have Dual Athlon 1600's with these heatsinks in the system. They stay pretty cool, and the are quiet.

BUT make sure you lap them. It looks like there is a clear coat on the bottom. I lapped them with 320 sandpaper then with 1200 sandpaper and used AS2.

Does anyone know which of the two is quieter, the panaflo or the vantec stealth? Both are rated at 21dba, but that can be pretty subjective.

Thanks

I haven't heard a Panaflo in a while, but I think it's on par with the Vantec Stealth. One thing is for sure, it's a h*ll of a lot less expensive than the Vantec. I bought 1 Vantec to use to replace a PS, but before I installed it, I tried it and compared it to a PC Power & Cooling Silencer that is rated at 20 db. The Silencer was considerably quieter than the Vantec. I even did a blind test with a friend and the friend said the same thing. The Vantec was noticeably louder than the Silencer.

My advice is to go with the Panaflo if you want to go cheap and to go with a PC Power & Cooling Silencer if you want something in the $10 range (Vantec Stealth price range). If you want something even quieter, go with a $20 Papst from Directron.

BTW.. It's disgustingly obvious that Vantec spent most of their money for the fan on marketing for the name and packaging. I would rather get a plain packaged fan and save $2-$3. Also.. FWIW.. The Vantec Stealth fans are just repackaged Nidec's. They aren't bad fans by any means, but they are certainly not 21 db either.

Anybody get their heatsinks yet? I choose USPS priority for shipping and somehow the order status claims I choose first class mail but the tracking number finally works and they shipped it via UPS and charged me more because of this. This makes me mad because I have my brand new XP2000 from outpost sitting next to me with no freakin heatsink. I would have had the heatsink by Friday or Saturday if they had shipped USPS but now I have to wait until freakin Monday, buncha crap and they have very poor communication skills. They don't reply to emails at all!

I haven't got my stuff either. I chose UPS and they gave me the tracking number 3 days ago, but the number is not working. Good deal, but not good company (at least this time).

They also gave me a non-working UPS tracking number, and I still have yet to see the heatsink.

IMHO, SVC's service has been going down lately. My friend's order also got screwed up 2 weeks ago (something went out of stock, and they cancelled the entire order without telling him). And their prices are starting to be less attractive as well.

Hope Newegg won't be next.

Yes, I think their service has been going down lately as well. I've ordered lots of stuff from them in the past. But I recently ordered and it took them over a week to ship my order. No, we're out of stock emails or anything like that.

sorry... hehe

i guess it means if it is bare wire or with connectors. On panaflo, some come with 2 pin connector. And some from China, some from Japan, too.

SVC has been going way way down lately!!! I got a UPS tracking number for the wrong order. It showed my order as being delivered to cali when I live in Texas, lol. I called them up, they said they didn't know how I got the wrong number but my shippment should be in the mail... should be, lol. They also never, ever respond to eMails anymore.

I will not be ordering from them for a while.
