Does anyone know of a deal on a Panaflo fan that has the 3 Pin connector? I've been hearing that BG Micro ships their Panaflo's with a 2 pin connector and you have to do something to the fan to convert it over. I'd rather not have to deal with this.

Thanks again.

Sal
to modify the fan is really really easy. no converting necessary. its a 2 pin connector, and usually connects to three pin plugs. well, at the edge of the 2 pin connector on the fan are prongs, you know, to prevent them from going in the wrong way. you just have to break one of them off, so that it will fit onto the 3 pin plug of your mobo. i forget which one needs to be broken, so just pull out another fan, see which wire goes where, and its as simple as that.

I haven't gotten my HS' yet and I'm beginning to wonder what's going on. I'm going to have to check my email again with the tracking information.

Regarding the two pin fans that BG Micro sells, I understand that you can break off the connector and use it with a mobo header, but what if I want to use it with a 4 pin Molex adatper? Will it plug into the 3 pin side of the adapter?

Thanks again.

Today I got my package, although I haven't got any reply from the company for the incorrent tracking number.
By the way, the surface finish was really rough, so I lapped the surface. Then, maybe I lapped too much and/or the retention kit was too soft (loose), so actually I got the worse performance than before. My last coolermaster gave 16C higer than ambient temperature, but this one gave 22C higher temp! So I switched the retention kit to the one which came with the coolermaster, and now it gives only 12C higher temp, which is nice. (I have Gigabyte M/B so it gives higer temperature than other M/B). My only and big concern is that there is too much pressure on the socket's hook, so it may break someday....
Anyway, thanks for the deal.

As far as "breaking off" the connector: No, you don't have to break off the connector. It is simply a narrower version of the standard 3-pin connector, only 2 pins wide, though. It has the same "ears" as a 3-pin connector though, which interfere w/the fit onto a 3-pin adapter, so these must simply be clipped off to make a flat surface. It's no big deal to clip them; just use a pair of dikes, or a knife - 3 seconds later, you're good to go.

My GC68 actually gives 1C higher than ambient, according to my MSI KT3 Ultra. My retention clip was unbelieveably tight. I almost thought I was gonna break the darn thing.

ps. I didn't lap mine at all and use AS3

I called them up, they said they didn't know how I got the wrong number but my shippment should be in the mail... should be, lol. They also never, ever respond to eMails anymore.

I will not be ordering from them for a while.

I had great luck with SVC until the last two orders....the first wasn't shipped for a week until I called...then this order was screwed up. I ordered two thermal controlled fans...they sent two regular fans. I've e-mailed them. They can fix it or I'll dispute it. They can pay for the return, if there is one!

Excellent info. Thanks! Can you use this with a 3 pin to 4 pin (Molex adapter though if you want to run the Panaflo's as case fans and not power them off your mobo header?

Thanks again,

Sal

Update...after e-mail their CS dept., I got a quick response (as I did on the first order problem) and it was very nice. They are sending me my two thermal controlled fans and told me to keep the other two Non-thermal fans at their expense. That was sorta unexpected.

SVC has come through (even with the screwups) again...at least Rodney Wang has.

Yeah, I emailed them about their lack of customer service here lately, basically costly growing pains on their part. They explained that they have hired more help and appoligized for how they messed up.

Tis the preferred way......rather than running off your mobo headers. My spare (see: "kids") case has 11 of these running, all using molex to 3-pin adapters.... $.49 at SVC, btw!

the package is same as case-mod.com and nexfan.com, which i ordered before. I thought it was going to have some SVC logo on it...
But the mirror finish of the base is gone! I remember have these from case-mod and nexfan (same model and box) have much perfect surface.... I think it is going to affect the cooling....

Mine deffinitely did not have a smooth finish. I idle at about 48c with a system temp of about 35c running an athlon 1600xp. Temps don't bother me any.

I wonder if sanding it down would help any? I might give that a shot. =D

I noticed that I didn't have my GC 68's yet, so I checked the UPS tracker. My GC 68's apparently came out to Illinois and are back in California now. WTF!? They are rescheduled for delivery on the 9th. What a bunch of sh*t! Has this happened to anyone else?

Blaisburn,
I too got the galaxie GC118 and IMHO it is garbage! The surface is not smooth at all, I installed before I noticed it and my temps went up to 118c by the time I could check the temps....and yes I had it on right

I guess I can enjoy the fan for case cooling.
I may try to lap the HS, but I guess you get what you pay for

118c ?????? What kind of chip was this. Was smoke coming off it?

118f = 48c which is not a bad temperature reading for current AMD chips.
SVC recommends that heatsink for up to an 1800XP, and suggests that a stronger fan be used if you are overclocking or running a faster chip.

I have two GC-68's, of their older stock, with the polished bottoms. I lapped them anyway, and they needed it. That polished finish was probably achieved in 2 seconds on a buffing wheel. Neither one was really flat. So go ahead and lap the ones you get. I like these heatsinks. They are cheap and fairly quiet.

How do I lap the heatsink? Do I just sand the bottom of it with sand paper? Do I sand the part that is higher and sits on top of the socket too?

Why waste time and money sanding/lapping a cheap heatsink? Might as well not buy the GC68 and get a hassle-free HSF instead.

I got my GC68 earlier this year from SVC. It has the smooth and "shiny" bottom. Keeps my Duron cool, but I wouldn't spend too much effort on it. I use a Volcano 7+ (also from SVC) for my AthlonXP--runs 50-55 degrees after hours of UT2003 at the LOW fan setting.

No need to sand the part that sits on the socket, just the bottom part. There are several instructions that can be found through google. Good luck!

From our man inside SVC:

I want to thank you for continuing to do business with SVC. Unfortunately, Zclyh3 was deleted from the forums indefinitely. I had apparantly violated the rules of the fourms, so Zclyh3 is no more. I will continue to do my best to serve customers via private message. I will not be using this name for regular posting. Again, I'm here for Anandtecher's. Zclyh4 will only remain as my direct CSR name. It will not be used for anything else but PRIVATE SVC CSR. I will create another name for personal use, which shall remain unknown. I'm just here to keep it real. Please spread the word that I created a new name. Like I said, this name will ONLY be PM only. But again, I would like to thank you.

Tony

SVC has been one of my favorite sites. They lost my business, but I reordered because of Zclyh3. I have received my UPS notification from SVC. Fast...so give Zclyh3 some help. All AT'ers who need products - if the price is right, use SVC!
