Gays and Gay Marriage

Is anyone else of having homosexuality constantly shoved down our throats in the media? Per Gallup, 3.4% of Americans consider themselves gay.

If that is the case, why are gay related subjects, gay characters on shows, news reports on gay marriage, etc... over represented so much. 3.4% of people are gay, seems like 30% of stuff I see on TV is gay related, and you can't watch or read the news without constant stories about gay marriage.

My stance is, if you want to get married, fine I don't care, it doesn't affect me, if you want to be gay, fine, again I don't care. Just wish the media representation of gays was proportional to the percent of people who are gay.

Also, in my child's text book, about 80% of the cartoon people portrayed in the book are minorities, what's up with that? Some kind of hidden agenda in a math book?
 
A group of people being unfairly persecuted is gonna grab peoples attention and rightfully so. When they are finally treated equally then it will go away.

In a global context "white" people are 15%-20% of the population.
 
I'm sure he is only complaining about the gay males....not the lesbians that seem to be part of any controversial show that involves hot women and sex.

I'm glad the "melting-pot" has been revealed as the racist, everything-ist idiom that it is.
Our country should be proud of its diversity, but there are different kinds of diverse.

Homosexuality is specifically written against in several religious texts.

Religious freedom means that people can form communities with like-minded people, who often have different views then those presented in the media.
I think the US is uniquely positioned to support diverse communities with different values, while all still being Americans.

I agree with you OP. I am tired of hearing all this BS about gay people and minorities at the expense of everyone else. Its just political correctness and white liberal guilt run amok.
 
you're free to vote with your wallet and avoid watching tv shows featuring gay characters or news programs giving coverage to gay issues.

fortunately, I suspect you're in the minority on your views and most people don't mind seeing diversity in media.
 
For those of us who come from gay families, I guess it's nice to see a family model I can personally identify with being portrayed in the media. But honestly, most of the time it comes across as tokenism or it's just used to make a not-at-all-subtle dick joke, in which case, it's just diversifying the stupidity that makes up most TV. Still, I don't have a problem with it in and of itself anymore than I have a problem with any other minority group being represented on TV. If I feel like a TV show is "shoving it down my throat," that's more a function of bad writing than being upset with the over-representation of gays in media.

This is because you're a self-absorbed conservatard (redundant, I know), so anything that isn't heterosexual White Fundamentalist Christian is different and therefore scary to you. Because heterosexual White Fundamentalist Christian portrayals do not stimulate an emotional response, they do not register as a sample. You thus undercount those while overemphasizing everything which does generate a response, and you then conflate the amount of weight of your emotions with numerical count because you're an idiot who doesn't know to compensate for that natural weighting error. Thus your statistical sampling is skewed.

Your racism is institutionalized, so it occurs on a level beneath your awareness. But you've just made yours clear to all who have an inkling that such errors in reasoning occur.

The output of immature reasoning such as yours is rather boring to those of us who are well beyond it. If you want to be at all interesting, do better.

It's more just people leading sheltered existences and holding fast and firm to their preconceived notions of what this or that is and how the world works. Part of me envies that line of thinking. Everything is much simpler that way. They truly in their hearts believe that they are right and no amount of reason or evidence to the contrary can sway them. Cause being gay is a sin and against gods will.. Or something like that anyway..

Even in Rome over 2,000 years ago being openly gay was not socially acceptable. Being gay was tolerated, not it was also frowned upon.

If a politician had a gay relationship, his career was ruined.

In the whole course of humanity, rarely have been gays been treated as equal members of society.
