Gasoline prices?

Emultra

What is the current approximate gasoline price in the US? Is it above $2 a gallon?

Here, it just hit $5.86/gallon. No joke.

What I want to know is how much of your gas price is made up of taxes?
For us, tax for gas accounts for about 70% of the net price.

Where is here?
I like to see oil prices go up...i think it will be a great thing over time.

Canada's share of tax from a 85 cent a litre purchase is 40 cents.
I think with high prices, everyone is getting a little more in the piggy bank. I hear that Canada's gasoline tax revenues are $175 million alone on the gst which accounts for 6 cents of the 85 cent price.

i bet UK

and yes here in NY regular is well above $2... i don't drive but my guess would be $2.2x at least

2.15/2.25/2.35 for regular, plus, and premium here respectively in Richmond, VA. We tend to be a bit cheaper than other locales.

I forget the exact gas excise tax rates, I think it's like .28/gal Federal and between .10-.30/gal additional for state and local depending on where you live.

Yes, higher and faster the better
Not faster as it will throw the economy out of whack, too much money flowing out internationally instread of value added services or opportunities.
But as the economy adjusts to the rising prices and people are able to predict expected rises, the sooner we can convert to alternate energy sources, at least the demand for such things will increase substantially.
We have to evolve in our energy consumption considerably.

Today it's $ 212.9/Gal at the Discount Stations, up from 1.74.9 in 22 days.

Friday it was # 199.9 & this morning it was $ 2.07.

This is the highest I have ever seen it - and the most I have ever paid.

There's more than a little potential to begin crippling the economy as
larger cars and SUV will start to be left at home and not sold by dealers.
Food prices will be going up as growers & shippers offset their expenses.

Anybody really think that they're paying that much in China -
like 1/2 a weeks wages to buy fuel ?

2.15/gal here in mid coast Maine.
Did anyone happen to hear Woolsey and that former top U.S. General on NPR today talking about how we MUST turn to hybrid tech and other technologies since there is going to be a spike in oil prices, most likely caused by a terrorist attack on the ME oil infrastructure. They claim it's not an "if" proposition, it's a "when" and how bad. Interesting fellows. Scaring the crap oughta me, but interesting. I think I'll take my investments and convert to mattress stuffing. 😛

$2.10/gal for 10% ethanol blend in Des Moines. A few cents higher for regular unleaded. That's a six cent jump overnight. It's the highest I've ever seen it here (except for a couple of profiteers on 9/11, lasted less than a day IIRC).

Actually it was a $.10 jump overnight but it was last Thursday IIRC. It was 1.99 last week until the jump and has been 2.099 all weekend. It should drop wednesday here though(late tuesday) as that seems to be how things trend here.

Do you have to disagree with everything? Maybe that's what happened in Ankeny. but around here it jumped a nickel from 1.99.9 to 2.04.9, fell to 2.03.9 (or even 2.02.9 at one downtown station), then jumped again six cents to 2.09.9 (current price). Some stations in Ames are 2.10.9 today.

I don't know about Perry or Indianola or Newton. I've found prices well outside the metro are often several cents different from Des Moines, sometimes higher, sometimes lower. Metro prices are usually within a couple of cents of each other.

65% of the price of gas in the USA is taxes

I'll notice it's above $2 and have no doubt it's going to $4 within a year. Free ride is over. Even at your price though it's a pretty good deal, ya know?

How is Canada's gasolines taxes amount to 38% at 85cents a litre and we pay more?
There's no way that is all tax 😛

the price of a gallon of regular unleaded here (Amarillo, TX) just hit 2.25 at the cheap places. i didn't have the stomach to look at the premium places. the tax prolly acounts for roughly 36% of the price, well last time i looked which was a long time ago ('96ish).

The rise of gas prices will be America's ultimate downfall in its short experiment for democracy. Just think about all the things we use DAILY that requires petroleum: shopping bags, cars, elevators, food, drinks, clothes, electronics, entertainment, etc etc.

When gas prices hit $50, $100, $500, $1000 a gallon, development of civilization will grind to a screeching halt and we will be forced back into the stone age due to world wars being fought for the last resources of oil.... and it takes oil to fight wars.
