I seriouslly hope it does get to $10/gallon. I hope it doesn't get to $10 because of a terror attack, but just by normal pricing means. $10 a gallon would RULE. Just think of how many screwed SUV and pick up truck drivers there would be. AWESOME! Since a overwhelming majority of SUV and truck owners don't need those cars to begin with they are getting what they deserve. All those stupid soccer moms driving cars WAY to big for them handle. Yeah it will cost me $100 to fill up, but I'd gladly pay it to greatly reduce all the useless SUV and truck buying. Oh yeah, and it will reduce all the emissions. And I'm not saying SUV's or pickup trucks are bad. But do most people really need a small tank of a vehicle to go get groceries and pick up their kids from soccer...I think not.
obviously a person who graduated in the top 10 percent of the class

I guess the Amish don't seem so silly anymore, huh? Don't worry about $10 a gallong gas as there will be a complete worlwide economic collapse before it goes that high.

Stupid fvcking ignorant retarded asshat.

Exactly... $10/gallon might stop frivilous driving and SUV purchases, but it will also cripple the trucking industry, which is the backbone of delivery of goods for this nation. That means that your grocery store prices will skyrocket, not to mention the cost for any other good that is not locally manufactured, which includes EVERYTHING you buy on a normal basis.

even computer parts would cost eleventy billion times more 😉

the point is....it WILL get to $10/gal...the question is only WHEN.

There is also no reason at all to assume that gas will get cheaper... (why should it get cheaper ?) ....so...basically as long as it is "only"
$3.00 or $4.00/gal better enjoy it since it will be MUCH more in some years.....(5/10/15++ years)_

It will run out sooner or later.

Besides....this whole discussion annoys me since the gas here in states is STILL a$$cheap compared to EU etc....so WTF...the point is only there is no such THING as "SUVs" in EU. And guess where the us is heading NOW since many people (obviously) now start thinking once they see "$3.00"....thinking which happened in other countries years ago already.

And...btw. even if i hate SUVs and soccermoms myself - NOTHING against 'em since i grant everyone his/her own freedom to chose what vehicle to drive. But then please STFU and dont complain about gas-prices - this is AT LEAST as stupid as eating at McD every day and sueing them if you get fat

so...what ?

Like we dont have that already ???? I just paid $1.00 "gas surcharge" the last time i took a cab....and YES. everything will get more expensive. Etc..etc....

How about...

Bush, please put in more money for the development of hydrogen fuel cells.
So that you won't make anymore money off your gas company.

Why is it Bush's job to spend more tax money on it. There's this thing called a private sector you know..

Perhaps there is a glimmer of intelligence in our government. Simple physics, Rice, conservation of energy. In order to get enough hydrogen to have the same amount of energy as a gallon of gas, it takes MORE than a gallon of gas to produce that hydrogen. Well, maybe not gas is used, but the energy HAS to come from someplace. And, in the U.S., the vast majority of the energy comes from fossil fuels.

Maybe if I put it this way:
Hydrogen IS NOT a source of energy;
hydrogen is simply a means of transporting that energy.

If you don't believe the average cost of gas will double in 12 months, Smith points to places such as Hong Kong, Korea and France, where gas prices regularly top the $5 mark.

These two paragraphs show he's a moron and full of sh!t.

I am also hoping he is not comparing the cost of a litre to the cost of a gallon.

True, there are idiots out there saying gas will hit $2.50 a gallon. Never happen.

I think panic might be a good thing. No one has the brains to do something about it before it happens, so maybe the sensation of their testicles receeding into their abdomen when they realize they might not be able to afford the gas to get to work will motivate them.

"Blame this on ourselves. This country has not built a new refinery in 30 years, we stopped new oil exploration . . . and put a moratorium on offshore drilling."

I hate to break it to this idiot, but they ARE doing new oil exploration!

How do I know? Because they are doing it on some of MY and my neighbors farmland!

According to my dad, the oil companies did a lot of exploration around here back in the 1960's and 70's and did indeed find oil. But it was pretty deep and, at the time, not worth pumping, so they abandoned it. Well, now it is worth pumping and the oil companies are back signing new oil and gas leases.

I've seen more oilfield equipment crawling around the back country here in the last month than in the last 10 years combined.

So, I don't know about the oil refinery situation, but they ARE going to get at more oil (if the tree huggers don't shut 'em down.)

And it's going to make a lot of barely-scraping-by farmers like me a lot of money 😀

If you think all this flirting with $3-a-gallon gas is already a pain in the pocketbook, brace yourself.

Oil expert Craig Smith predicts gas prices will skyrocket next year, jumping to five bucks a gallon.

And if terrorists successfully strike a major Middle East oil field, Americans might end up paying $10 a gallon -- about $110 to fill a Ford Focus' 11-gallon tank.

Smith, a self-proclaimed geopolitical know-it-all hawking his new book Black Gold Stranglehold, says Americans -- tree-hugging politicians and car-addicted commuters alike -- should blame themselves for the coming spike in prices.

"Why are they charging higher prices for gas? Because people will pay it. Apparently, we're not changing our driving habits much," he said. "Blame this on ourselves. This country has not built a new refinery in 30 years, we stopped new oil exploration . . . and put a moratorium on offshore drilling."

Smith -- who last year predicted $3-a-gallon gas and $65-a-barrel crude oil prices this year -- says oil prices will jump to $80 a gallon by the end of 2006.

On Tuesday, the national average was $2.52 a gallon, according to AAA. And the price of gas topped $3 here last week.

If you don't believe the average cost of gas will double in 12 months, Smith points to places such as Hong Kong, Korea and France, where gas prices regularly top the $5 mark.

The solution here for high oil prices: "find it, drill it, refine it and burn it" domestically, Smith said, pointing to untapped crude reserves in Alaska, Colorado, Utah, off the California coast and in the Gulf of Mexico.

~$130 to fill my tank

It already costs $130 to fill my excursions tank.

If gasoline rose to $10, it would not stay there. The resulting collapse of the American and global economies would put a huge dent in energy demand and prices would retreat greatly. The Asian currency crisis of 1998 gave us $0.89/gal of gas (remember?). Oil prices are a highly stacked deck of cards. High, but inevitably still cards.

Ooooh boy, let's talk Doomsday: Surging energy prices and shortages kick the world economies into inflationary recession. Interest rates spike, consumers default on their Option ARMs for their new McMansions. Housing bubble finally pops, defaults everywhere. Banks fail, liquidity crisis, ahhhh.

Not to mention both have much higher gas taxes than the US.
