Hold @ 71-72 here as well. In Chicago, no less, so all you California punks can quit whining about your heating bill.

I've often wondered where the sweet spot is when dialing the thermostat down overnight or during the day when nobody is home. The furnace runs forever and a day if I turn it down too far. It's dependent too, on the temperature outside or if the sun is out and shining on the house.

There's got to be a balance point where you're really not saving anything. When the furnace has to run for nearly three hours to bring the temp up, did you really save anything when it didn't run for 6 hours overnight?

You know what I mean? But like I said there are so many variables, that it may be impossible to come up with a definitive answer.

We keep the thermostat at 70, but it's in the hallway outside the computer room. I don't have to tell you guys how much heat is rolling out the door into the hallway with two and sometimes three computers running. The house itself is much cooler than 70. The hallway however, is nice and toasty.

when our heat doesn't work, our indoor temp drops to 59F and below, it is not in any condition to live in for more than 15 mins. Our heating company had to show up at 4am.

Anything below 60-65F and you will definitely need socks. You can't live at 58F for any amount of time, especially if you have tile floors, etc. I had to wear a big coat while working (at home).

62 at night and away during the day. Many of our house plants will not do well if we push it any lower. The dog is not too thrilled either.

Generally leave it at 78 but it only turns on every 4-5 hrs due to residual heat from hallway/neighbors.

Space heater, preferably ceramic, FTW.

I have high tolerance. I'm not using the heat, and the apt dips down around 52F to 62F depending on the day. I'll use the ceramic space heater in my bedroom at night, otherwise I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night freezing.

In an apartment and I don't mess with my thermostats at all, even though I do pay my heat.

Whenever I buy a house, I'll program it so that the heat goes down when I'm gone rather than when I'm in bed.

65 during the day, 55 at night, but I'm cheap and work keeps it in the 70s. :)

My gf keeps it at 75F pretty much 24/7.

I wake up sweating quite often now, because she went and got this big ass comforter, that she throws on me in the middle of the night.

75? Fvck! How much is your gas/electricity bill? Cranking it to 67/68 which was the old "optimal" temp would prob be a nice chunk in savings.

I have a programmable thermo...lately been sleeping with it set to 63-65, depending on the night.

Gee thats funny, my gas company said never make it more than a 4 degree difference or the heater works too hard to bring it back up.

One of them is lying to make us waste gas and pay more.
Who is it?

I have no idea how much the bill is. I haven't looked at it since we got into a fight over me leaving my pc on all night to run SETI. She pays it, and I don't run SETI anymore.:(

Before I moved in with her, 63 was where I had it at night, and it would go to 72 when I got up in the am, and back to 63 during the day.

It's 80 right now, because her aunt is here visiting, and she doesn't want her to get cold at night.:disgust:

Family Guy

House is 60F during the day, and 50F during the night. But I just got an oil-filled heater for my bedroom.

i set my temp to 65F at nite, and sometimes even with a down comforter, i get cold.

i shudder at 58F.

Did you get it?

The gall of the Gas company?

They make so much money on the fuel source they pushed Americans to get to replace oil/electric and then jacked up the price so much they are making a ton of profit that they can afford to tell you to be uncomfortable while still making a killing off you.

Isn't it special?
