Here's a Sandy Bridge version of mnewsham's build, total price should stay close to the same:
i5 2500 $210
MSI H67MA-E35 $100
G.Skill DDR3 1333 4GB $40
GTX 460 1GB $150 AR
Samsung F3 1TB $65
DVD Burner $19
Earthwatts 430 $60
HAF 912 $60
ASUS VE228H $140 AR AP
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit $100
Total: $944 AR
The only big caveat here is that the i5 2500 and the H67 don't allow overclocking. Newegg sold out of the only reasonably-priced P67 mobo that they had in stock.
If you could afford it I'd go with a GTX 560 ti over the 460 (It'd be an extra $100.)G10, MX 518 a good combo to top this baby off? I like the LED feature on the keyboard for late night action
Can I get some final opinions on the selection? Will this game with high competency?
If you could afford it I'd go with a GTX 560 ti over the 460 (It'd be an extra $100.)
So would you recommend everyone that's getting a GTX 560 to scale down to a GTX 460?http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/313?vs=330
100 bucks for 10-20% improvement. so 60% price raise for a 20% performance gain. not really worth it IMHO.
So would you recommend everyone that's getting a GTX 560 to scale down to a GTX 460?
The GTX 560 has been hailed as the new mid-range graphics king by many sites, are all those sites wrong and the king is in fact still the 460?
If it doesn't warrant the price increase over the 460 than how is it a good card?http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/Radeon_HD_6990/24.html
As of today's pricing the performance to dollar ratio is usually between the HD 5770 and GTX 460. The 560ti is a good card, BUT it doesn't warrant the price increase over the 460 which is still a powerful card at 1920x1080.
If it doesn't warrant the price increase over the 460 than how is it a good card?
Why are people buying the GTX 560 now instead of the 460?
Why are websites claiming the GTX 560 the king that took over the position of the 460?
That 560 is only showing up as $60 more in my cart, the MIR expired on the 460 I believe
For the love of god, go for the 560.That 560 is only showing up as $60 more in my cart, the MIR expired on the 460 I believe
Does that chart take into account that the GTX 560 can be overclocked to 570 levels of performance on lots of games?I still recommend the 460 as seen on these forums, people are buying it because it has a bigger number, why did people buy the GTX 9800 when it was the same as a GTX 8800? And what websites claim this? Does it replace the 460? yes.. does it replace it with the same value? no. as seen from my chart there and the current cost of the card and the performance it gives.
Does that chart take into account that the GTX 560 can be overclocked to 570 levels of performance on lots of games?
Probably not.
The 460 isn't gonna be overclocking to 570 levels my friend!Do you take into account the 460 is a beast at OC too?
Oh wait that would go against your argument sorry. D:
The 460 isn't gonna be overclocking to 570 levels my friend!![]()
$150 for $250 levels of performance or $250 for $350 levels of performance? No but it sure will OC to 560 level for free.
This year you're gonna have Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Brink, etc; do you really wanna be screwing around with a year old mid-range card on those games OP?GTX 460 now, pocket the 100 saved, OC to 560 levels be good at 1920x1080 for 18 months, sell GTX 460 for $75 in 18 months use $175 to buy the GTX 860 that will be good for another 18 months.
This year you're gonna have Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Brink, etc; do you really wanna be fucking around with a year old mid-range card on those games OP?
Don't listen to this guy OP, he just wants to play contrarian!
Yeah I forgot that this website didn't allow cursing so I edited my bad if I offended anyone. What are you talking about contrarian? you came into this thread and went against what everyone else had suggested. How does that make me the contrarian? you fool... And watch your language there is no need for cursing in the technical sub-forums.
Yeah I forgot that this website didn't allow cursing so I edited my bad if I offended anyone.
But anyways, you are playing contrarian! General consensus seems to be that GTX 560 is the new king and a good enough leap over the GTX 460 to justify the price difference.
