I'm curious, who here games on a 50"+ LED? What are your likes / dislikes, etc.? How does the lighting affect your gaming experience?

Thinking about going after a larger sized LED & would like your input / feedback.

Just like going with a larger size monitor. It's very cool and if you have a decent sound system it's even better but since I don't have a desk directly in-front of my tv, it sucks since no good place to have a kb/m.

Fkn Awsome.

The nice screen goes really well with a nice sound setup, so like zerocool mentioned get on that if you haven't already. HTIB doesn't do that great a job of filling a large room.

Keyboard and mouse is not that great for these setups, but manageable. Controller (xbox 360) and couch is the best for extended periods of play.

Playing in the dark is better btw.

I should have mentioned I already game on a 58" plasma & have a nice 5.1 sound system, so everything is good there. I've just never had an opp to game on an LED & I'm thinking about getting a 65" LED, but curious about the difference between gaming on a plasma (which is awesome) & a large LED.

Why would you think there would be a difference??? It's just a larger tv.

There are several differences between plasma & LED. What I'm looking for are comparisons from folks that have experience with both. My experiences have been limited to plasma, as I've never had an opportunity to game on an LED. I thought I made that clear. For example, lighting, shadows, brightness, etc. Whatever anyone wants to share.

I would stick to the plasma. I have a 240 Hz Vizio LED and the motion compensation is really nice but there is noticeable input lag. I had to turn it down low to reign in the lag. I also have a plasma and I don't notice any input lag.

I don't have any lag whatsoever on the plasma, super smooth, all the time. There are things about the larger sized LED that are attractive.

Oh sorry, I just thought gaming on a tv alltogether. Gaming on a plasma would be better than on any modern LCD, faster refresh, better blacks and colors, and less lag cus most LCD's would use some type of interpolation to smooth things out but 15"+ real estate would be awesome.

current "LED" tvs do not have LED pixels. it is an LCD with LED backlighting. due to consumer confusion the UK has banned tv makers from calling the things "LED TVs."

plasmas still have generally superior image quality, afaik.

It has its ups and downs. The problem with bigger screens is that if you're playing an FPS... you have to move your eyes a lot more. (If you're closer that is) Which makes you have delay in reaction, which makes you get your ass raped.

I'm not a fan of the idea of a huge system. Maybe a good sound system but I'd never go above a 30"(2560x1600) unless there was moar pixels.

To weigh in here, I preferred the IQ of my 42" Plasma when compared to my 47" LCD (comparing 720p vs. 720p). I do not notice any input lag in my LCD vs. my Plasma however.

My regret is that when I went 1080p, I went LCD instead of sticking with Plasma. Playing Black Prophecy Closed Beta right now and just wondering how amazing it would be on a Plasma.

I haven't heard of this and still see large places like Argos advertising 'LED TVs'. Not questioning your info but I know I was looking at a 32" 1080p TV the other day in Argos window advertised as an LED TV.

Plasma should destroy any LCD TV when it comes to gaming as motion clarity and overall image quality on a high end plasma should trump any LCD (much better especially in gaming modes where many post processing techniques used to improve image quality are turned off in order to reduce input lag).

The problem is that they're far from ideal for overall desktop use as they're generally worse for text and consume more power.

However if the only concern is gaming on a large format, flat panel display, I wouldn't consider anything other than plasma.

It's just a shortened version of LCD LED TV. All LED TV's are LCD just with different backlighting to light the LCD panel. Make sure whatever you get is Full-Array not Edge-Lit.

To echo what others have said Plasma > LCD for everything really apart from power consumption but the Panasonic neo PDP's are much better on the power front than older models.

One worry with plasmas is burn in but I have a 3 year old Panasonic PZ80 and I played a risk clone on it with a white map and black lines to show the borders, while I did have a bit of image retention after my several hour gaming session that disapeared after watching some TV on it. The newer plasmas are much better with regards to image retention though so it is even less of an issue now than it was when I got my set.

The other advantage of a plasma is they have much better motion resolution than any LCD tv and this is achieved naturally rather than by using motion interpolation systems than can cause small artifacts. This is important for watching sport or playing fast paced games.

I agree with everyone's sentiments that plasmas are the smoothest thing on the planet. I've spent some time (couple hours, tops) watching the larger sized LED's at Best Buy & for the most part, they look pretty good, & in most cases as good or better than my plasma. Thus far, I've only compared BB's crappy so-called HD connection (sports, running adverts, etc & Blu Ray), but no gaming at all.

From what everyone has said thus far, it sounds like my 2.5 year old plasma is a better gaming monitor than a 2011 LED display, which makes sense, since it's based on LCD technology, but also raises an eyebrow at the same time. Looking at it from a technology advancement standpoint, anyway.

So that we're clear on the reason I initiated this discussion, I have no qualms with my display, I love it, I'm just drawn to larger displays & new technology.

The reason that even old Plasmas are better than new LCDs is because LCDs inherently suck.

Where are my OLED displays????

It's just how the LCD technology we have now is. It's good for some things but bad for other things just like Plasma is bad for some things as well.

You sure about that?

Pretty much all LED LCD TV's I have seen round here (UK) have been branded to the eyeballs with "LED!!!11!"

http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-42LE4500-...5461345&sr=8-1

To the OP - I would check the reviews before you buy. Input lag varies depending on brand and model. Higher end models tend to have more features, but more input lag. Check out game modes etc. as well.

Try somewhere like -

(I'm sure there are US sites, I just don't know them).

Aren't most newer LED LCD TVs edge-lit only? I don't think I've seen an LED LCD TV that still uses back lightning for awhile now.

I own a Samsung LN46A950 backlit led lcd tv and I don't think I've seen a backlit one since that model.

I have a 40" LCD (none LED) 60hz and never had any issues with motion blur etc. HOWEVER, when it comes to quality of picture it simply doesn't compare to a monitor.

Size of pixels obviously has a lot to do with it.

But overall the gaming experience is very good.

Most LCD panels have the ability to turn on a game mode which removes any image improving capabilities. Also the whole full array vs edge lit is highly over hyped. The people here are splitting hairs.

Would you notice a difference maybe and only maybe if you had 2 of them side by side…..
