I guess I am more pro ATi than Nvidia. I say that despite owning a 8800, but I purchased that in December with the intention of getting the R600 when it came. I'll probably hook two 2900s up in a month or so. Anyway I saw the gamespot impressions of the 2900XT and they are really misleading. The sad thing is that a lot of people go to that website and will make a decision based on that article alone:

http://www.gamespot.com/features/617062...;title;1&om_act=convert&om_clk=topslot

You might say those are only "Hands on", but gamespot never follows up on hardware and only does hands on. That is all you will see from them on the R600...

Why is that misleading?

It shows benchies extensively on 3Dmark 06, when we all know how misleading it is in the end. The real world benchies are very different from the picture the 3Dmark benchies paint.

The only resolution at which the R600 closes the gap is at 2048x1536. Maybe 1% of the gaming population plays at that. Most stick to 1280x1024 or thereabouts. Some a bit higher and some slightly lower.

We all know that currently the 2900XT is behind in those by a significant margin.

So guess which benchmarks gamespot chose to show. Yes the ones at 2048x1536. Insanity right?

Please go to the article and post in the comments section. Just be honest. It doesn't matter who you support, but be honest. Those benchmarks are total crap.

I made a thread on gamespot. You can post here as well:

http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/sh...id=25632623&msg_id=288203549#288203549

You might say it isn't a big deal, but it is. A huge percentage of gamers go to www.ign.com and www.gamespot.com without ever visiting a hardware site. Right now those gamers have the wrong idea.

He edited it, someone else also complained lol well ... HardOCP is just a bunch of payed guys promoting certain hardware IMO (check their Core 2 Duo review, or the 8600GTS)

Anyway as it stands I have to say 3d"mock" is totally useless... But maybe, just maybe, it actually represents the real performance on the 2900XT ONCE IT HAS DECENT DRIVERS... Even in 3dmark it is still a bit below the GTX, so it fits right in for the price

Doubt it.

When I had my 7800GT SLi when 3dMock06 came out, I scored nearly 2000 points higher than I do with my X1900XTX, yet my XTX is faster in the real world.

Gamespot does this all the time ;( they debunked X1900XT against the 7800GTX.

They're a paid review site and always have been. No surprise there. Sort of the HardOCP of the software world. Dunno why they're sticking their neck into hardware in the first place.

Hehe, I liked the guy in the Article's comments who said, "Let's hope they put this technology in Nintendo's next console" :)

You never get to hear stuff like that on AT Video, that's for sure.

well actually not for gaming review section. The hardware review is done by written stupid people and thoes review are typed for average joe. As for gaming review website they have one the best game journalist like jeff g , brad shoe and alex Navarro. They did loose alot of their most senior editors as they went off into gaming make business.

Yea I edited out the HardOCP link. :p

Gamespot are the best in terms of game reviews on the web. I read PC Gamer a lot, but love Gamespot. I go to IGN though they are atrocious, but have a lot of content.

But Greg Kasavin kicked ass, but unfortunately left Gspot after many years of great service as lead editor. I think he is trying to become a developer at EA.

Although insanely high resolutions might not make sense, someone who plays at 1280x1024 would just be better off getting $250 8800GTS 320mb instead.

They should test 1600x1200 and 1920x1200 for high end cards.

Well I for one have never been into all the "fanboi" crap myself. I am only interested in results. Since 1999 I owned ATI, and now I own Nvidia. I have no brand loyalty and change to the better card. IMO till now ATI was the better one.

What you have in mind is interesting. Any reviews of two yet? I would be interested in your results. You won't save any cash with that setup with $800 for two and also the 1k power supply you will need. Thats another thing. Is there any power supply out there right now with 2 6 pin and 2 8 pin connectors? If there is I am sure its north of $300

Please keep us informed

how about a $6 adapter?

http://www.axiontech.com/prdt.php?item=...ONSID=4265ea9b345652cd24dde597eda8ded7
This adapter converts 2 standard 4-pin Molex coonectors into 1 8-pin P8 connector allowing you to use today's powerful motherboards! This Add-On Cable brings expanded functionality to any high end power supply that hasn't passed it's life cycle but is missing some latest connectors.

MY PS would be fine for OCing Xfired HD2900Xt
[i have an 'extra' 8-pin anyway, along with the 2-PCIe cables
... so i can save $6]
