SOURCE

As previously explained, this patch will address a long list of issues, and should improve stability, performance, online matchmaking, and connectivity overall. You can read the full Assassin's Creed Unity Patch 4 update notes through our previous coverage.

Finally, Ubisoft says PC players using AMD video cards should install the latest drivers before applying the update on Monday.

No thanks Ubi. Next time try releasing a game that's not in an alpha state. This patch will probably bring this game up to beta status.

The only patch that would interest me is the removal of Uplay. As long as Ubisoft requires me to use Uplay, I'll never buy its products.

Ubisoft Releasing AC Unity RC 1:
This is Ubisoft's first release candidate for AC Unity, available to all gamers who already purchased AC Unity.

I'm ok with Uplay, so I might pick this up when it's $5-10 and on its 13th patch.

Cool, maybe I'll give it a play through once this patch is out. I have been busy playing FC4 and kinda forgot about Unity.

Bingo. Over the years I picked up AC1, 2, 3, Brotherhood - all Deluxe versions where available - for $5 or less. That's all their broken / beta tested AC games are worth. Why spend $60+$15-30 on DLC when a typical AC game gets to playable state in 12-15 months?

This article is spot on why most PC games aren't worth $50-60 and definitely not worth preordering:

http://www.techspot.com/news/59106-op-ed-new-video-games-shouldnt-broken.html

10 years ago games were worth $60 when they just worked. We don't like it when we have driver issues with our GPUs, but it's acceptable to wait for months for a $60 game without full content to be a broken mess? Nope. Companies like Ubisoft spend millions on advertising to sell a polished turd but save $ on QA testing or worse don't want to delay a broken game due to wanting to milk consumers over the holidays. Won't have my $ with those disrespectful tactics.

From a technical point of view, Unity, FC4 and Watch Dogs are a trifecta of fail. Bugs, glitches, poor performance with traditional AA, broken or stuttery SLI/CF, large VRAM demands despite just OK textures and well lack of next generation graphics made it even less forgivable. FC4 isn't too bad but the other 2 are just laughable. It's also hard to forget the BS pre-rendered shots Ubisoft portrayed as real world gameplay to make the graphics look impressive. Pure marketing.

All patches welcome here :) This is great news. Obviously would be better if the product worked out the gate, but given that I still haven't finished the storyline and I bought on launch day (no time to play), I'm ok with that.

The only thing that pisses me off about this is the people who have never and will never play the game that continue to beat down Ubi. No one is defending them, not even me. But if you're not going to pay/play, you've already voted with your wallet. Just leave the threads to people that are actually happy about this and be done with it.

Eh, you learn to ignore them. They can waste their time complaining on forums, while we get to enjoy the game.

Whether Ubi suckers you for full price, or you sucker them at the bargain bin, players or potential players can voice their opinion. Sorry there aren't more Ubi love fest threads around here. Most of us know better.

I know, everyone can. Doesn't mean I have to like it.

Hate to break it to you (OK not really), but those weren't pre-rendered shots. They were "in engine."

Do you know the difference between pre-rendered and in engine? Apparently not, because this isn't the first time I've corrected you on this and you still repeat the same falsity.

I hope Ubisoft learned a sharp lesson from AC Unity's release. It's better to delay, than to release a game early and suffer a tarnished reputation and increased cynicism in the gaming community.

AC Unity despite it's bugs and deficiencies is still the most technologically accomplished game to date by far, and it's optimized fairly well. The poor performance on AMD hardware in the beginning lies squarely on AMD.. They needed time to optimize their drivers, and they took their sweet time doing it since they were fixing a whole bunch of other stuff as well.

And there you have it, someone made this Nvidia vs AMD.

What does AMD have to do with a universally broken game? You're taking the Ubisoft apologist/Gameworks supporter thing a little too seriously.

So AMD's new Omega drivers which boosted performance in AC Unity to a massive degree, it's Ubisoft's fault that AMD was so slow in releasing them?

Right.... Last time I checked, Ubisoft didn't have any input in AMD's driver development..

Is it necessary for you to make such an annoying comment?

Are you not tired of being one of the major source to ignite wars on Anandtech?

Are you not able to be a good member?

We aren't here to be an echo chamber, a difference of opinion is very healthy.

Then again that comment was so inflammatory.

It's like he is saying that ubisoft didn't do the necessary QA but it was super well optimized.

Last time I checked, I wasn't here to pour honey into your ear. You may find that comment annoying, but it's true nonetheless.

When a new set of drivers is giving you a 50% and greater performance increase, you can't really blame the game.

Yes you can, it's called QA. Obviously there was none on any platform...unless you think that it was well optimized?

Lets be clear on one thing, AC Unity was definitely bug ridden. But was it optimized? Yes it was..

Optimization has nothing to do with game bugs. Optimization means it takes good advantage of the hardware it's running on, and in my opinion, it does.

Was it perfect though in that respect? Of course not. But since the launch I've been able to hit and maintain 60 FPS at 1440p maxed settings with FXAA V-sync on, and considering how much detail the engine is rendering, thats an impressive accomplishment..

And it will surely improve.

That said, no current game to date is rendering nowhere near as much detail as AC Unity, and with so many cutting edge technologies.. Not Crysis 3, not Dragon Age Inquisition, not Metro Last Light, and not BF4.

That is debatable, and I'm not hating on Acu, looks great no doubt. Maybe this is a bit ot but my qualm is about laying the blame for performance issues on amd when even you admitted that this is a bug ridden game. To clarify I'm not saying amd couldn't tune the drivers to gain more performance but how is it AMDs fault that the game got released in such a terrible state on every platform?
