Yeah I don't think it's harder either. It's been a while since I played, but couldn't you de-level in Demon's, and the enemies progressively got stronger the more you died?

Yeah, exploits based on glitches aren't good, but Demon's Souls and Dark Souls both have plenty of ways in which they can be exploited that I'm sure the developers implemented for a reason (or are OK with). I mean, the games are supposed to be brutally hard...I think taking any advantage you can would be encouraged.
Well the forest one is intentional and not a glitch or an exploit. The one I'm talking about is definitely not intended.
Getting millions of souls and max humanity in 4 seconds. Definitely not intentional and shouldn't be encouraged especially in a game that has pvp.

Got invaded twice last night and both times they ran away like little bitches. So annoying to have to sign out from XBL because the guy ran away and wouldn't fight. If you're going to invade me, at least be a chum about it and take your death like a man.
Finished Sen's fortress last night and left after getting into Anor Lando or whatever. Summoning NPCs to help with bosses is fun but makes it so much easier.

I'm guessing he just doesn't want the invader who he already whooped to continue messing around in his game.

Somewhat inaccurate on both counts. You couldn't de-level yourself, but it was quite possible to have a friend soul-suck your level down quite a bit. Enemies don't get stronger the more you die - but if you're in body form and you die, the world tendency for the world you died moves toward black, making the enemies stronger. However, that only happens in body form, which you lose when you die - so it's not every death.
Just finished up the Painted World. Man, that place was bad. And not it the "Got my ass kicked" way, but rather filled with boring enemies with uninteresting drops and generic level design.
The further I get into the game, the more I feel it's considerably weaker then Demon's Souls. Because of the very poor stat scaling on weapons, level just isn't very important - at max level with max stats, the weapon with the best scaling does 2 points more damage then a Lightning Great Sword +5 will do. Other then Endurance and Vitality, there's no reason to put more into any stat then you need to use your equipment. And there's essentially no reason to use any non-elemental upgrade paths - the scaling just can't match them. So you basically end up using a lightning or fire weapon, maybe switching to divine if you're dealing with skeletons.
Means your damage at the end of playthrough 1 is basically your damage forever, and there's not much in the way of build variety. The underlying game mechanics just lack a lot of depth and nuance that DeS had.
I was at the darkroot garden earlier today, had come up from the hydra area by ladders. Got invaded when I was trying to take out a kitty so I turned around to the bridge.
Guy doesn't have the ring of fog so he shows up and keeps trying to bait me into npcs. He runs at one point so I run back to the bridge and go down a ladder. Guy thinks I have gone into another path and I climb back up a ladder.
Because of learning how to fight the cats I am at about half hp with no estus flasks, guy sees me and runs more into forest. Because I chase I get two treeants to come after me. So I try to take them out but they smack me a bit and the black phantom is hanging out with them trying to get a shot in. So I have less than 1/4 hp now because of bad blocks and smacks. I run over to the bridge and the npcs and black phantom are coming. Sensing that I am low the black phantom gets on the bridge to come for the kill, I whip out my 2H Black knight greatsword and go for R2 - black phantom tries to block but the attack goes through. NPC treeant hits me and I die, as I am falling to the floor I see the black phantom body coming back down from being hit up in the air, his body bounces and is dead. I had gotten credit for killing him with the strong attack from the black sword.
I wish I had a way to record that because it seemed epic being on the bridge with the low light 🙂

hmm I'm on ps3 too. We are talking about the cats that roll at you?
i'm stuck in the same part but instead of going across the bridge at the top of the waterfall, I go the other route. no matter what I do, I either get killed by the trees or the forest hunters/protectors. I hate not being able to "lock on" to the "invisible" hunters. And then when I die, I have a five minute trek back.
Should I just bite the bullet and
pay the blacksmith 20,000 for the key to open the door and be closer to the bonfire?
Hey TheUnk I am not having problems with lag, as far as the trees are concerned I would try and pull them in small 2-3 groups or 1 at a time if its too hard - I haven't played for 3 days now since that little pvp run but i'll see what I can do with the humanoids later tonight.

This game would really be less than half as good without online features, IMO.
I'd just unplug the network cable or turn off wifi.

Honestly, invasions aren't bad at all. Not to mention in human form you usually have 1-2 companions who can help you fight off the invader.
