Good question. They always talk about how weak they are, but it reality they have a great deal of political and social strength. As far as controlling the conversation, that's only in specific venues that they've been able to manipulate into becoming anti-free speech zones.

One side, pro-GG, doesn't want speech curtailed, they want to weigh evidence and look at all angles of a subject. While the other wants to close off and effectively limit speech that they find incongruous with, or harmful to, their opinions. When conversation is restricted, despite whether it hurts your feelings or makes you uncomfortable, so is society as a whole.

I hate religion. IMO, it's insidious, manipulative, and individually dangerous, but I'll defend anyone's right to blather on about it in a public venue, if that's their choice. At the same time, others can challenge them on their ideas. This equally allows for all sides say their peace and lets those on the sidelines evaluate the conversation, possibly shaping their own perspective.

When one side seeks to silence the others, because it's found that their theories don't hold water or because the facts are too difficult for them to bear, there's a major problem and democracy dies.
