I want to know whats the the real difference between increasing sensetivity settings in game for an 800 dpi mouse vs lower sensetivity settings in an 2000 dpi mouse?

cause i just got a G5, set it to 2000 dpi which caused me to lower my sensetivety level in games. I cant quite tell the difference, to me it seems like the way i had it set before on my MX Revolution which is 800 dpi, i just had to increase ingame sensetivity.

i'm about to send the G5 back cause thats alot of money if thats the only difference.
using 1000 hz polling rate didnt make any difference either. I still cant do headshots any better than i could before.

so before someone just says its more accurate...i want it better explained as to why cause if it is more accurate, then how come my accuracty hasnt increased? even my BF2142 stats still show 20% accuracy. i know i suck n all but seriously has a gaming mouse really noticably helped any of you?

if not, i'm going back to my wireless MX
 
haven't tried G5 but I'm so used to my mx518, if I use any other mouse, I have to get used to it before I can even get same frag rate or even in SC.

heh, 2142 i always break 30% accuracy, hit close to 40 more often than not 🙂 i play infantry 99% of the time.


thre are other advantages if you have a dpi on the fly adjustment on your mouse. on the 518, i use 800dpi normally for my infantry and have the sensitivity set just right in 2142, but when i jump in a rorsch i tap it to full DPI, and now i can move the rorsch around many times faster. takes a split second and you can wheel that rorsch around to get the crucial hit in, then exit the rorsch while tapping back to normal DPI, otherwise you wont be able to do anything.

this also can help in some vehicle mounted guns.

im sure this feature may help in other games as well.

 
no, DPI is an incredibly overrated, overhyped, and misleading spec

the primary advantage for a gaming mouse is that most of them offer some way to change that DPI on the fly (generally with buttons near the scroll wheel), thus giving you an option to have a hardware way (thus avoiding any software interpolation and potential pixel skipping) of changing the sensitivity to suit the situation if your default isn't working out

however polling rate is huge, if you can't tell the different between the craptastic 90Hz your MX Revolutions opperates at (this is less than the 125Hz standard, and is used to save on batteries) and 1000Hz (or at least 500Hz) all mice should be set to for gaming, then there's a fundamental pebkac problem
 
DPI benefits the gamers who use small hand movements (high sensitivity settings in game, or those who twitches), tracking speed benefits those with large hand movements, like many CS players who requires low sensitivity for better accurancy.

Depends on which type you are you can choose the mouse accordinately. Generally speaking the infrareds like 518 and older razors can track better while laser have higher resolutions.

Shape is important too, for example, the bloomslang was designed to fit high sensitivity users while the 518 favored users all around.
 
i've tried high dpi vs high sens on my mx518 back in the day when i've played cs1.6 "semi-professionally" and didn't notice any difference whatsoever
 
i noticed alot of games dont like high dpi with low in-game sensitivity, makes them bug out when you do the "twitch" movement
 
usually when you move the mouse fast(like when playing at a low sensitivity) and the mouse "jumps" its the mouse at fault and not the game, it can't cope with the acceleration or it doesn't like the surface(for laser mice only)

a gaming mouse for me is one that doesn't "jump" while i'm playing(i'm playing at very low sensitivities, 2.0 in counterstrike without acceleration). By that definition the intelli 1.1a is a gaming mouse however it does have a nasty flaw, if you hit the mousepad hard enough while moving(it happens with low sensitivity when you're paddling with the mouse to be able to make a 90+ degree turn) it'll sometimes trigger the mouse buttons which is bad, very bad
 
The only reason I use a gaming mouse is for the extra buttons. Among the various wired mice I've used, there's no discernable difference to me in accuracy or sensitivity.

exactly. i bought my mx518 for the extra button's, cant do without them really hah
 
I tried setting up my MX518 for higher resolutions. I ended up going back down to 800 or so 'cause almost every time I played a game, my character would invariably end up spinning around 3 or 4 times instead of turning a little, then getting shot in the back of the head.........lol.

I love that mouse

I went through 3-4 of the 3 button version (unfortunately, the quality of its wiring isn't too great), but am currently using the 5 button version although I haven't really ever used the 2 extra buttons

there's something about its shape that fits my hand very well

 
ok, i think then its best to send it back and go back with my revolution. It too also has extra buttons so no biggie. i only got the g5 cause i thought 2000 dpi was something special, tried it all week and its the exact same thing as cranking the sensetivity up. looks just as smooth as well.

i didnt understand the weights thing. heavier or lighter, it didnt improve my gaming either. extra buttons aside, this thing is gimmicky

*edit: came across this little quote from a gaming article about mice.
(Many professional Counter-Strike gamers will use dpi settings of between 400 and 800 to ensure maximum precision with ranged weapons, for instance.)

well i guess if the problem is BKAC, then it doesnt really matter cause either way the problem still exists doesnt it.

 
No matter what mouse you use you should adjust your windows mouse speed settings to default. I think default is 6 ticks. Anything higher and windows does some kind of mouse acceleration that can make your pointer jumpy. I don't know if it applies to Vista but there's a mouse fix that also turns off acceleration.

why not just uncheck "enhance pointer precision". but i kinda like it. a quick move and i spin around fast or move slower for headsshots, seems to work for me, but ive never seen my pointer jumpy less thats what your reffering to, but i would call it a quick move not jump, takes practice i guess to control it.
 

Expecting mouse settings to change your gaming performance is like expecting which pair of cleats you wear to change your football performance.

This kind of wanking always makes me 🙂

My mother can't see the difference between DVD and BluRay or hear the difference between 128kbps mp3 and lossless, but that doesn't mean there isn't a huge difference for many.

if it works for you that's fine

This 3 button one? I used to use old blue there until the right click button fell off. Really sturdy mouse, it took a lot of abuse before that happened.
