If you are making a PC game you need to optimize it for the OS the majority of your customers are using.

I don't mind a new os if there is something to show for it,i had XP and Vista dual booted cause i had DX10 games that looked great like UT3 and Bioshock but with issues outside of gaming i preferred Xp.:)Same with 8 for me anyways, issues with certain games this time about.

I could do that with this game and 7/8.1 but with 10 nearly here i believe,i could hold off cause i liked what i saw with 10 in the preview. No complaints for me outside of beta issues which is to be expected.:)Just jump right to 10 and kiss 7 good bye.:'(

It matters to people on hardware that Mantle doesn't support though. It's not good if you're still rocking 6970s for example.

Clearly it shows AMD lack the resources to spread their driver focus widely. It's either DX11 or Mantle, not both as we've seen in games with Mantle.

When DX12 is mainstream, Mantle is dead because of this spreading of focus. AMD cannot maintain both DX11, DX12 AND Mantle optimizations for each new game.

We'd need to see tests on the VLIW cards. They could be perfectly optimized on GCN cards and still fail on older models, or visa versa

Just see the frametimes on AMD cards in BFH and totally shows lack of focus in DX11 on AMD mantle title.
All AMD GPU based video cards experienced this horrible frametime behavior. We certainly did not need graphs to tell us this as it is obvious in gameplay. It should be noted this game is being run in DX11 mode, not Mantle since Mantle isn't supported in the beta. Clearly AMD needs to do some driver work for this game to smooth out these frametimes. There is a big problem in terms of consistency, choppiness, and stuttering in this game on AMD GPUs, despite high framerates. It needs to be addressed. As it is, NVIDIA GPUs feel much smoother in this game even with lesser framerates when the settings are turned up.

This is one of the reason why GTX 760 was recommended as equal to R9 290 not because of performance in facts was for smoothness if u are on dx11.

Listen, try understanding what someone says b4 you respond. Especially when you are going to call them out and be condescending. What you are showing in the link doesn't show anything I said was wrong. I never said that the DX11 frame times were good or anything. Nowhere in your link does it show anything conclusive about the AMD driver issues being because it's a Mantle game, nor does it show any testing with VLIW cards just that the issues exist. Seriously, try to understand before you respond. Seriously!!! OK?

dude you are seriously clutching at straws here. The game has not released yet and there is more than a month time till launch for AMD to release a BF Hardline optimized driver with smooth frametimes. The game launches on Mar 17th.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlefield_Hardline

In fact Mantle is not supported yet on BF Hardline according to hardocp. So contrary to what you say AMD is not neglecting DX11. What matters is the launch drivers for the game and performance in both DX11 and Mantle. And given DICE, EA and AMD's close collaboration I am sure everything will be fine come launch day :D

Yes and why it is performing better on Nvidia? Can u explain that.

Nvidia has miles better frametime than AMD in this game on Dx11.

I'll take a guess: Because NV is the best?
No it does not mean that and totally not.It is baseless to say that game is in beta or other excuse to counter AMD bad performance because this game is AMD evlove not Gameworks it should perform better on AMD even if it is on alpha stage.

I would assume its because its beta and AMD don't have a released driver for it yet... but you must know more.

It is rather strange you bring up that its an AMD GE title, rather than GameWorks. I mean its obvious to many, GameWorks games are expected these days to run like crap on AMD hardware.

BUT! The reverse isn't true. AMD GE games run just fine on NV hardware, as demonstrated here again.

I wonder why AMD does not play by NV's standards when it comes to GE vs GameWorks?

the moral high ground might have its advantages.

The strange thing is this is a beta and you are drawing conclusions, a very long bowstring...

But here, it's a NV GameWorks released title, with multiple patches.

So at this point, you could argue that BF Hardline is still in beta so let's see how it goes once its released (the logical conclusion several posters here have correctly made)... or you could insinuate that AMD is not performing with their GE program by comparing it to how awesome NV's GameWorks has been executed. o_O

If AMD plays that why than surely that game will be non selling because Nvidia controls majority (70%) of dgpu market which means game will be a flop on PC and developers cant afford that.

Sorry mods for going of the topic.

That's the point. AMD is basically ditching VLIW4 support in games with Mantle, because those GPUs don't support it and AMD can't be bothered to optimize the DX11 path.

Not cool either way.

My brother in law is playing BF4 1080p (custom Low-Medium settings) with MSI HD6950 2GB OC at 120fps and its doing fine at DX11.

Why is it wrong for AMD to focus on Mantle over DX11 for some titles, you guys realize that 6950/6970 are more than 4 years old:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4061/amds-radeon-hd-6970-radeon-hd-6950

Today you can readily buy an R9 290 for sub-$250. Surely anyone who plays modern games and wants high settings will have already upgraded from GTX470/6950 style cards. Even if AMD focused on VLIW architectures, HD5000 would be too slow for Tessellation and modern games. TechSpot already ran a comparison of 4-5 AMD generations.

It's way more impressive that 290/290X are faster than Titan/780Ti in modern titles than for AMD to focus on DX11 drivers for VLIW to get 3-4 fps more out of 5870/6970. I mean the 6950/6970 user can sell the card for $50 and for $170 out of pocket get double the performance with a 290. Where's the problem?

If AMD's frame times performance under Mantle is bad in Hardline around launch date, then it will be a big deal. Trying to generalize that AMD doesn't care for DX11 performance based on Beta in a Mantle-supported game is stretching the reality a lot...

AMD's HD7990/ARESII/295X2 CF is looking great. So refreshing to see AMD and NV GPUs both scale nicely with increased GPU speed. Must be a non-GW title.:awe:

The next time I see anyone start a benchmark thread with a cheap shot like this, it's going to be infracted for trolling.

I am getting sick and tired of all of the fighting being instigated in this forum, on both sides, and if I have to permanently get rid of the offenders to stop it, I will.

Man that gamegpu 4k 120% chart is revealing. The GTX 970 in SLI just falls apart under the VRAM load at 4k 120%. Its just 20% faster on avg fps and 10% on min fps than a single R9 290X. the R9 295X2 has 50% higher min fps and 42% higher avg fps than GTX 970 SLI. Nvidia has made real suckers out of people who bought GTX 970 SLI for 4k. Even reviewers were praising GTX 970 SLI without doing any frametime testing on the latest games at 4k res and highest settings. the R9 290X is a true last gen high performance GPU. Now we are all waiting for what that behemoth R9 390X with HBM can do. :) Another 50 - 60% at 4k would put it at 45 - 48 fps on a single GPU. Its very clear that R9 390X will be the first single chip GPU to break 50 fps in this title at 4k when overclocked. So finally we have 4k single GPU gaming becoming a reality. Combine that with Freesync and this year is going to be a great year for enthusiast 4k gaming :)

Sorry but my 290x did that. And to the mod. Since when is telling the truth a cheap shot?

I have a 290 and as far as I can tell the Mantle selector isn't in BF Hardline yet. Where the line shows up in BF4 just isn't present in Hardline. It must be secondary priority at the moment

Mantle was in the first beta and it ran very smooth.

So no one thought about using the GstRender.MantleEnabled setting in the PROFSAVE_profile to toggle Mantle on and off.

It appears we can't have a civil discussion about a game without attacking other members and throwing up the AMD vs NVidia arguments. I honestly don't see much worth salvaging in this thread due to the excessive amount of cheap shots given on both sides.

It's quite sad really to see all this arguing over a BETA release title.

Thread Locked.
