The game is a total trainwreck. Looks like a console game and runs like it's Crysis 3. I think Ubisoft believes next-gen just means your game sucks hardware like a pig, they don't realize you need to actually produce visuals beyond the year 2010 as well. The pop in is atrocious as well

This is the second failure of gameworks, first we had Watch Dogs. If Far Cry 4 completes the hat trick of fail for ubisoft using gameworks then the whole gameworks package has really shaped up to be a gambit to artificially inflate performance requirements. What a joke, it's even punitive to nvidia users and destroys the experience on AMD cards.

Been ok for me so far. I haven't seen anyone pass through walls or Arno hanging from nothing in mid air........ yet. I haven't been playing it for very long so that may change, or it may be from beta versions that these videos were taken from? Or from final retail versions..? I guess I'll see. The only thing I don't like, (and it's funny how opposite Gloomy and I are) is the straw hair.

I don't think it's Nvidia's fault. Ubisoft does this with or without their help.

Some people just can't pass up an opportunity to place blame on Nvidia. Funny thing is, the same people continually complain about AMD bashing on these forums... :hmm:

I've decided to wait a week or so (probably longer if I get FC4 on day 1) to see if some issues will be ironed out. The hair looks awful, not sure if its possible to fix that though.

You're acting very "extremist" here. As per usual, lesser cards will have to play with lesser settings. This has been true since T-Rex roamed the earth. ;)

I'm playing this (right now) at 1920x1200, all settings ULTRA and ON. 4X MSAA, HBAO+ and Bloom ON. I use on average 3.5GB of GPU memory according to MSI afterburner. Also condsider that memory management algorithms play a part here as well and can differ from one memory size to another without much penalty in Texture quality. ACU may not Need the 3.5GB it is utilizing on my 980, but since it's there, the driver may take liberties. A 3GB 780 may utilize 2.7 or whatever. Need more data. Maybe some 7970/280/780/290 users can chime in as well as 680/770 users.
Just try not to be so extreme. There are tradeoffs and middle of the road options for any game out there.
And as soon as nvidia gives US all SLI 9800GTXs we'll be able to play it properly too.

Diablo III still happily sits at 3.9 user score LOL
2.4 for PC - would this possibly be another case of internet mass hysteria?

What I don't understand is why Ubi decided to release the game in such state.
Why not give it another month or two or three...

Medium term financials would prolly be roughly the same, but they would be better positioned long term

I do think the hair looks really super bad during cutscenes. But that's just a matter of adding adaptive LOD like the newer TressFX versions have. So hair strands will multiply and also become thinner as the camera moves in.

I like it mostly because it shows progress. It also looks okay-ish most of the time and is used on a lot of characters.

You're like a broken record player repeating the same thing over and over again despite your arguments being discredited time and time again..

The game runs great, so great in fact that I can hit 60 FPS at 1440p maxed out with FXAA. The reason for the low benchmarks from GameGPU is because they are using MSAA.

MSAA plus deferred rendering engine doesn't result in high performance. FXAA performs much better, and even looks better than MSAA in AC Unity.

Also, that gif is from the PS4 version. Pop in is a reality for modern games because they all use streaming technology. Pop in on the PC version is drastically reduced compared to the console versions, provided you are running at the correct settings with adequate hardware.

The texture issues likely stem from people using too high a texture setting for their GPU buffer to handle..

Funny how the game turned out to be another ubi disaster exactly as many expected. Ubi is depleting what little credibility they have left with these technical disasters they keep releasing. They pulled back after the farce they got themselves in with their always online DRM attempt, but now they're back at it releasing low-tech resource hogging titles.

Next week we'll find out if Far Cry 4 is the third trainwreck. I'm hoping not as Far Cry 3 was actually fun. The asscreed franchise has been stale for a few releases now, but FC has held up. Far Cry 3 was a mess at launch, but after a bunch of patches they managed to fix the stuttering. Watch Dogs is still broken even now and unity has released broken like Watch Dogs did. Don't have high hopes for FC4 if it also releases in a broken state, at least I picked that one up for free.

Seeing the usual suspects defend this garbage pile of a game just because it has Nvidia's name on it is disheartening. I'm not even going to engage in this discussion.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PkzIGSyjLQ

Moving on to another subject, the game seems to use some derivative of TressFX for hair, simplified and toned down a lot for performance. I like it, even though it looks really bad close up, it's still a step up overall.

Hahaha those are good. Don't they test these games before shipping?

980 and 980 SLI are 32% and 33% faster than 780Ti and 780Ti SLI at 2560x1600 with MSAA. Yet, on average 980 is less than 10% faster than 780Ti. Interestingly enough while 780Ti leads 290X at this resolution by 4 fps and itself just hits 25 fps. Kepler optimization went missing OR GW code is specifically "optimized" for Maxwell. Epic fail.

D3 deserves it. They needed to Beta test it more and seek critical user input from the top D2 players. Auction House? What were they thinking! I agree with you that Unity needed the 3-6 months delay, at minimum. Sooner or later console and PC gamers will start to either wait for $5-10 bargain sales or boycott these franchisees. I still can't believe Watch Dogs sold 9 million copies. Worse, it could spill over to damage sales of FC4, the Crew, the Division because gamers will stop believing the lies.

Even Destiny has flopped as a game imo. 500 million for that? AAA game development is in a dangerous place right now. 2-3 of these uber expensive failed games that can't recoup their development budget could spell thousands of job loses and loss of shareholder value.

Full retail game or beta/alpha?

Links? Thanks.

They don't care. They are so consumed with a pathetic hatred that they are posting anything that will show the game in the poorest light possible.

If that means lying or being deceptive, then that's OK with them.. The vast majority of these images are coming from the alpha console versions.

Yes, AC Unity doesn't run very well on consoles, but why should we care? The PC version runs and looks far superior to the console version, as I've shown in screenshots where I'm getting constant 60 FPS with maxed settings.

Slider comparison between PC and PS4 in ACU.

And the PC version will look even better once the tessellation patch is released.

So you haven't played it then.

So you're telling me that despite MULTIPLE news outlets showing how buggy the game is, multiple pics in thread from people who OWN the game showing how buggy the game is, and multiple other forums showing how buggy the game is,

I should purchase it to prove it's buggy just for you?

K.... Will you purchase the GTX 980's for me to show you how buggy it is? I'll need two... since one isn't even enough.

That title may have to go to Borderlands The Pre Sequel. Buggy as Hizzell.

At least I won't have extremely low FPS all day. 4K is actually a possibility with Borderlands 2.

I said it felt rushed and that they should have waited longer in an earlier thread. I really don't understand why they wouldn't wait.

Ok... so the PC version looks better than the PS4 version so what? That's like saying my Scooter is faster than my Bike. At the end of the day, I still would rather drive a car. The game still doesn't look great for a "next gen" game. End of story.

So hold on if I have a 6-Core $400 CPU + $660-1200 970/980 SLI, the game will run way faster and look better than a $350 XB1?! And everyone else in the world who paid $50-60 (or $80 CDN in my country) with a similar PC setup can go take a hike? Hilarious. I actually wouldn't mind if this was Game of the Year contender, best graphics of all time, even best graphics of 2014, but it isn't. Bayonetta 2 on the Wii U wipes the floor with this game. Ubisoft has only gotten worse and worse in the last 3 years. It's hard to imagine what their "real next generation" PC game will require to run. It's like if you double or quadruple performance, Ubisoft will improve graphics 5% and use up all of the extra power.

Ubisoft will soon use the OakRidge Facility for PC game optimization.

I don't care whether you purchase the game or not, and I don't care that you think it doesn't look great for a next gen game.

What bothers me is when people criticize the game dishonestly by posting screenshots or gifs of the alpha/console versions, and try to pass them off as retail and or PC..

That's straight up lying and just goes to show that many people have no integrity.

That's what it is all about. The fact you have to ask if its alpha/beta is all what it is about. Because people don't know...

What is a difference between beta and full retail game from ubi? Beta is generally for free, retail is $60+

Short answer: It is a beta, an open pay-to-play beta is what that is!

Thanks for the cryptic and meaningless "answer". Since you do not know, you probably shouldn't have said anything in the first place. Just FYI.

Anybody here that does know and have links? Or are a bunch of you just going to continue to post random un-sourced vid clips and photos and let people believe these are from the full release version of the game?
