Nintendo of America announced that sales of their GameCube console, more than doubled, in February, compared to those of January. It is suspected that the major reason behind this increase is the success of Nintendo's special bundle offer.
Nintendo GC sales rose by a staggering 110 per cent and the software tie-ratio reached 8.4-to-1 on a year-to-date basis.

also i have noticed that a uk store (argos) is now selling the gamecube at a new low price of £78 (compared to 129 previously)

i can't find any information about this but if you were thinking of getting a GC, now is the time.

I haven't owned a console since the SNES, but with PC games in the toilet I've been considering a GC. I'd love for soemone to talk me out of it though.

Get one. It's cheaper and less hassle than video cards and all that upgrade crap.

Good games though? I'm completely out of the loop on consoles.

Depends on what kind of games you are into.

I am pretty confident that you will at least find a couple that you really enjoy. I have 10 GC games and counting. I will probably increase my collection to 15 this summer. 😀

Great, one more thing to spend my money on. But I wasted my youth on video games, I might as well waste my adulthood too. So has Nintendo shed the kiddie game reputation from the N64?

There are still some kiddy games, but there are also some great non-kiddy games. Some people would classify Zelda and Mario as kiddy games, but IMHO, they're just great games. Nothing kiddy about them.

i dont think dust counts as a manufacturing defect heh. buyt good luck anyway 😛

Thanks....I think that sucks though. You would think they would do something about crap like that. I don't know. I will try to fix it myself if htey won't help me. I have taken Palms and Pocket PCs apart to fix the dust problems. GBASP shouldn't be a problem either.

I'd look at Xbox first.. GC is great too, but Xbox has more games..

Better or just more? I mainly like action, adventure, RPG. Not big on driving, fighting, or sports(I prefer sports games on the PC).

More != better

The only game I've ever enjoyed on Xbox was Halo, although some people enjoy other games the majority seem to be lacking in quality imo.

Although I don't own either system nor plan on being them (my room mates own them 😀) I'd definately go with PS2 first, then GC.

The new zelda game is awesome, metroid prime was awesome, mario party can be awesome (drunk w/ lots of ppl 😀), and smash brothers is my favorite fighting game ever next to the tekken series.

Having owned both consoles (with the XBox the only one in my current posession) I'd pick the Box over the Cube anyday of the week

ALso having owned both consoles..i would strongly reccomend a Gamecube over an Xbox.
Why? Exclusives.
There are many games out for XBox that are also available on GC.
However, you will not find the 1st party Nintendo titles anywhere else.
There is nothing on Xbox that compares with Metroid Prime.
There is nothing on Xbox that compares with Zelda.
There is nothing on Xbox that compares with Mario Sunshine.

If by action you mean FPS or TPS (like Max Payne/Tomb Raider/Indiana Jones), I'd give the edge to XBox over GameCube, although you will miss out on the brilliance of Metroid Prime and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

I think XBox and GameCube are roughly equivalent in the adventure space. GameCube tends to have more "platformer" entries in this genre, although it does have Eternal Darkness, which makes up for a lot.

If RPG is one of your big genres, you might actually want to consider a PS2. There are probably more RPG titles alone (although to be fair, a lot of them are actually PSX games that the PS2 picks up through backwards compatibility) than all games on either XBox or GameCube. Not that quantity is the same as quality, because clearly there's a lot of junk in the PS2 library, but be aware that the RPG content on the other platforms isn't all there yet, and may take a while to materialize.

Thanks. I wouldn't want to play FPS on a console, so I guess I'd be in the TPS camp. I hate platform games, and when I said RPG I had PCRPG type games in mind although I realize it's a different thing on consoles. I haven't played a console style RPG in a long time but I always did like them.
