this thread is like deflategate - a shambolic clusterfuck that demands your attention during all those months when the show it's about isn't on.

IMO, Kit Harrington Watch 2015 and the casting news/rumors thrown around freely in this thread are waaaay more spoilerific than anything in the books.

There is, and was posted a long time ago, about a casting call for a priest. AND, he doesn't claim the Hound is alive. It is a fucking theory. The priest says the Hound is dead.

Oh, and GRRM called, Syrio is dead.

Jaqen H'ghar is dead too. The un-person wearing his face spent an awful lot of time with Arya.

The hilarious thing about all the paranoia about book spoilers regarding the Priest and the Hound is that I am 99% sure that smackababy's summary of the theory is inaccurate (the overall gist of the *fan theory* is somewhat correct, but I think the details regarding the basis of the fan theory came from are wrong).

So basically, chill. Nobody has revealed any info from the book. The two supposed spoilers identified by CZRoe are wrong. Therefore, no spoilers.

The word
spoiler
is, itself, a
book spoiler
even when simply typing the "
<spoiler>
" code into your text.

while this is funny at face value, I was under the impression that there were 2 very good reasons why trial by combat was not an option (or at least a good one) for Ned

1. he thought he was making a deal, confessing to something he was not guilty of in order to avoid greater conflict, and would simply "take the black". Instead Joffrey goes rogue and nulls the deal at the last second instead of pardoning him

2. if he had demanded trial by combat, he might have been made to fight his own battle, although even if he was still recovering from his leg wound, its doubtful he would have found a champion better than Jaime or the Hound or the Mountain, or whomever the Lannisters would have put up to make sure that their hold on the throne is protected

When Tryion demanded trial by combat he either didn't have a choice (when facing the moon door) or was simply fed up and wanted to fuck over his father/sister without playing their game, the latter of which he didn't really think through. He also got incredibly lucky both times with his champions, even though the 2nd time his champion didn't win (even though he could have)

Further, and this is very important, it's what happened
in the book

Ned Stark would never get a (fair) trial, even a trial by combat would be rigged for Ned to lose, Lannisters would poison food and water to ensure their champion's win. The only scenario in which Ned could have survived King's Landing is for Tywin to be there to keep Joffrey on a leash and trade Ned for Jaime.

A few predictions for next season:

The Dothraki encounter will serve to set up Daenerys gaining control over Drogon. After the riders bring her back to their HQ, there will be imminent threat of death/rape/humiliation. Moments later, there is a BBQ in HQ after which the Dotraki reveal that they are all registered democrats and flock to her side.

Her nephew on the other hand... We've known for years that Melisandre envies Thoros of Myr and his CPR skills, she better get a chance of her own because employment with Stannis Baratheon as the last gig on her resume is really killing her Linkedin profile. The problem with staying at the Wall is that the Watch tends to make some truly idiotic moves every once in a while.
I expect her to be the latest victim of their stupidity, it's lights out and terror full time for her by episode 4.

Arya spends the first 5 episodes coping with her (temporary) disability on the streets of Braavos. Theon finally kills Reek to save Sansa, Ramsay kills him, Ramsay is then killed by Brienne saving Sansa but then Littlefinger has Brienne killed before taking Sansa all night long. After Ramsay, LF is just a gentle lover. Sansa starts plotting and looking for bigger fingers and then on the verge of Littlefinger gaining serious power over the realm, she royally fucks Littlefinger over from her position as Warden of the North. Once her "half brother gone stranger" becomes an obstacle for Littlefinger, Sansa plays the Lysa Arrin card to claim the north herself.

The foreshadowing from S2E10 (roughly 15 minutes before the end of episode) starts to unfold but doesn't occur this season IMO.

Even if Ned demanded a trial by combat, he was injured in his dual with Jaime and had been in a cell with little food / drink for a while. He was in no position to swing that big ass sword of his against anyone.

It's ironic to me that Ted was telling that one guy that if money is everything, why isn't Tywin running kings landing, when in the end he basically did.

Uhhh, Tywin was broke. The Lannisters aren't rich, just appear to be.

Remember seasons 2 when Littlefinger tried to tell Cersei "knowledge is power" and she countered "power is power" and almost had her guards kill him?

Tywin ruled through power (perception of), not coin.

This. Tywin wasn't feared for because he was rich. He was feared because he had allies who wanted to be allies to the Lannisters and the cunning to win wars. Power is always power. Robert didn't become king through some buying of things. He took the throne, as it should've been.

Err the only thing that makes sense is that he expected mercy for him and his family and thus accepted his 'guilt.' Pointing to how he was injured or that the Lannisters would not fight fair is silly - if the options are 1. certain death or 2. minuscule chance of survival/freedom, chances are he takes option 2. Injured or not, Ned was not going to admit guilt/shame his family unless he thought the bargain would be honored.
