It actually isn't wrong. As was said numerous times, your real life stamana is not infinite. You can't run forever. So in an attempt to simulate increased stress on the body they came up with the idea of a character getting winded. Sometimes it is done well and other times it is just annoying. The rest of the game mechanics don't matter...what matters is they are trying to make the character in the game appear more like a real person.
I disagree on both counts.
1. It isn't a matter of infinite stamina. In real life, if you sprint for five meters, you wouldn't even feel it. In a video game, your stamina is
frozen and there's usually a half second delay before your stamina begins to regenerate.
2. Why are they trying to make the game more realistic? Realism would be when you get shot in Call of Duty, you die and can never play the game again? When you use up your stamina bar, you have to wait an hour for it to replenish? No, because that isn't fun.
The issue is
why would realism make the game more enjoyable. Realism is added to balance playability and difficulty.
A stamina bar's intention is to punish displays of bravado and make the game slower and more strategic.
The slight delay is so that using a small amount of stamina isn't nullified by regeneration. So if you have an ability that uses just 5% of your stamina at a time, you can't use it over and over again with impunity.
And this whole discussion has gotten really silly at this point.
