No, something completely different from what I asked was explained.

nope, you are just 100% missing the point or being a moron on purpose and it's been answered multiple times. might as well lock this thread at this point.

You beating a dead horse: Missing the point.

"To make the game more realistic" is a good guess, but quite simply the wrong answer.

It actually isn't wrong. As was said numerous times, your real life stamana is not infinite. You can't run forever. So in an attempt to simulate increased stress on the body they came up with the idea of a character getting winded. Sometimes it is done well and other times it is just annoying. The rest of the game mechanics don't matter...what matters is they are trying to make the character in the game appear more like a real person.

Adding to this: it is just imposing limits on what a person can do. Even the most elite athlete cannot sprint forever. The strongest man cannot lift weights continuously forever. The stamina bar is simply a mechanic that allows you, the player, to monitor the stamina of the player while performing stressful activities.

I disagree on both counts.

1. It isn't a matter of infinite stamina. In real life, if you sprint for five meters, you wouldn't even feel it. In a video game, your stamina is frozen and there's usually a half second delay before your stamina begins to regenerate.

2. Why are they trying to make the game more realistic? Realism would be when you get shot in Call of Duty, you die and can never play the game again? When you use up your stamina bar, you have to wait an hour for it to replenish? No, because that isn't fun.

The issue is why would realism make the game more enjoyable. Realism is added to balance playability and difficulty.

A stamina bar's intention is to punish displays of bravado and make the game slower and more strategic.

The slight delay is so that using a small amount of stamina isn't nullified by regeneration. So if you have an ability that uses just 5% of your stamina at a time, you can't use it over and over again with impunity.

And this whole discussion has gotten really silly at this point.

The issue is you're being stupid on purpose.

People got tired of being superman, games like Last of Us where you have limited supplies and limited health options make the player think before they act. If you want to be superman with a gun go play Serious Sam.

You are the one acting like a child. You asked, we gave many possible reasons and included examples. You claim we are wrong? If you knew so much why did you waste our time?

Okay, but you were wrong. As reinforced here, the stamina bar is to stop cheese and grinding, not to make the game more "realistic."

And as far as the question I asked in the first post, I figured it out myself. But you'd know that if you were a reader.

You're retarded. We gave the answer on the first damn page and you are to ignorant to read it. You link to an opinion blog on giant bomb as your proof that we are wrong? Heh...

As I've said numerous times before, those answers have nothing to do with the question I asked. It's still there, so you can just scroll up and read carefully, word-by-word to increase your comprehension. Do you know how to do that? Scroll up? Read?

You link to an opinion blog

Yes, I'll take the opinion of someone who's paid to write over the opinion of someone who can't read.

CODE RED CODE RED!

OP HAS GONE FULL RETARD!

Oh dear, now we've resorted to internet memes.

Go ask your mom for some Xbox Live points and leave grown folks alone.

To summarize this thread:
- you ask a question
- you get reasonable answers
- you demonstrate extreme lack of common sense when it comes to anaerobic performance
- you act like an asshole towards people who took the time to answer you
- you post a link to Giant Bomb wiki claiming that someone's opinion carries more weight if they are paid to write (yeah, nope), and fail to notice that is a community wiki and not even written by someone paid to write (haha)
- you continue acting like an asshole and telling people to learn to read
- not only did you fail to read the nature of the page you linked and its writer, but you also completely failed to read the actual content of the page that's right there in front of you, which disagrees with you and agrees with what everyone's been telling you here. I literally started laughing when I spotted this:
First Person Shooters

First person shooters may use a stamina bar to add a level of realism. For example, it is common that players will only be able to sprint or run for a limited period of time.
I'm not sure how you could own yourself harder if you tried.

This is a discussion board, not Yahoo Answers. Contention is encouraged.

- you act like an asshole towards people who took the time to answer you

The people who "answered" me by flinging insults when I wanted a deeper discussion? Point out to me where I was rude without provocation and I'll apologize.

which disagrees with you and agrees with what everyone's been telling you here

Or:

In the Madden Series of Football games, this is used to prevent a single player, such as a star running back, from dominating the game.

Role Playing Games often use stamina bars. This is especially common for online games as well. Stamina bars are used as a way to limit players ability to do repeated actions.

And the line you quoted, but you left out the best part:

First person shooters may use a stamina bar to add a level of realism. For example, it is common that players will only be able to sprint or run for a limited period of time. The game RTCW interestingly also uses a stamina meter for jumping as well as running, limiting the players ability to effectively perform these maneuvers.

Damn, you couldn't own yourself harder if you tried.

And as far as realism is concerned, I countered that with:
-The way a stamina bar in a game functions is far from realistic.
-A game is only intended to be "realistic" as far as it will make the game fun. Bar none.

No one bothered to agree or disagree with those points, so the dialogue was stifled.

You should see his posts in L&R. He is the next alky; I'd wager he already drives an M3.
