What a president can do is submit his proposed budget, and when his proposed budget is as much or more than the one actually passed, this kind of arguement really holds no water. But of course you just want to ignore that and blame spending on the democrats.

He can submit a proposed budget, but congress decides. Ultimately they are in charge of the spending. Period. The president can certainly have an impact, but you have to blame congress first.

So what you are saying that even though Regan submitted a budget with greater spending than the one actually passed, it was actually just the democrats fault and Regan was still fiscally responsible. Right...

Nope, Reagan was not fiscally responsible, but congress bears the blame since they control spending. That's how it was set up in the constitution.

This ignores that the President could veto the budget if he doesn't like it. Then its up to Congress to override his veto or come up with fixes that would be acceptable to the President or be able to override a second veto.

That is still within the purview of congress. The fact that the president can have an impact (or can veto it) doesn't absolve congress from the responsibility it has under the constitution to control the $$$.

Nothing in what I posted was a high crime or even a misdemeanor, nor was any of it beyond Clinton's authority. Although it had terrible results for our country, there is nothing remotely impeachable here.

On the other hand, perjury and suborning perjury are both felonies, and imminently impeachable. For that matter, simply having sex with someone in his chain of command is a crime, and technically impeachable. For some reason lefties seem to have great problems distinguishing between things they very much dislike and things that are criminal, as witnessed by your hatred of Bush. Notice that I did not call for Clinton's impeachment, nor his prosecution or imprisonment, nor his execution. While I very much hate what he did (perhaps unwittingly) to my country and to the free world, that does not make it criminal.

Born and raised 🙂 Contrary to popular belief all Texans aren't backwoods rural hicks or neocon's. Many of us here are citified college edumacated libruls.

As a mater of fact if socks and shoes and a mouth full of teeth were required to vote, I'm pretty sure this would be a blue state 🙂 Or if our districts weren't gerrymandered to the point where a 500 vote rural district = 50,000 vote big city district we would return to our democratic roots.

Obviously there's a recency effect, with 4 of the top 10 being recent (1980 to present) presidents, but Obummer and W... best presidents ever!? By what conceivable measure could you put either one of them in that category?

  2. Washington
  3. Roosevelt (Teddy, not FD)

I would not put jefferson in the list of the "best" presidents. he was an excellent statesman, but any president that enacts an embargo against our main trading partners is just being dumb. that action had a significantly detrimental effect on our fledgling economy.

I don't know about the other early presidents.

Teddy Roosevelt
Nixon
Reagan

It's possible that the people putting Bush, Obama, and Reagan on the list simply don't know the names of other presidents. This just confirms that we are slowly becoming a Nation of Morons.

No wonder the rich are getting richer while everyone else is getting poorer and our nation's economy is in the dumps.

1. Grover Cleveland
2. Jefferson
3. Washington
4. Calvin Coolidge
5. Warren G. Harding

Reagan is somewhere in the middle of my ranking.

Bottom 5:

1. GWB
2. Truman
3. Johnson
4. FDR
5. (worst) Wilson

Obama's not ranked yet, so far he will probably be in my bottom 5 though.
