Even if McCain is somehow elected in November, he will find himself in the GHB dilemma. As much as he may want to continue four more years of spend and borrow, he will find GWB done spent it all. And like GHB, McCain will have to say, read my lips, gotta raise taxes.
Except this time, McCain will have a far deeper hole than GHB had. And given his pro war policies, will find a international community willing to let US economic woes rein in a my way or the highway foreign policy.
As it is, the international community is just waiting for GWB to go the way of the dodo, they will not passively sit by watching another four years of the same. And the quickest way to force it to a head is to simply quit loaning money to us. And when we belly up to the oil buying bar, we are soon likely to get, In Allah we trust, all others pay cash.

Just so you guys all know, they are saying Bush has the lowest ratings of any president since FDR NOT because FDR had low approval ratings. He didn't. For most of his presidency he enjoyed pretty widespread popularity. They mention since FDR because that is the era in which scientific polling has been conducted on Presidential approval.
So, trying to compare good 'ol George to FDR is probably not a particularly good idea.

Excellent point. A lot of people tend to forget what the russians did in the great war.More people died in the eastern front than in all other fronts during ww2.
The germans lost abt 5 million of their elite soldiers just on that front..which would have faced the allied assault in normandy if it wasnt for ussr.

He lost the popular vote and lost Florida (only "winning" due to fraud and political machinations). If not for "felon" lists, butterfly ballots, Kathryn Harris, Jeb Bush, 5 members of SCOTUS, FOX, fake riots, Carlisle, and the like, we wouldn't have had eight years of his crap.

Um, FDR didn't have higher disapproval than Bush. When they say 'since FDR', that's poorly phrased, it means 'in the history of the poll since it began under FDR', it seems.
When Truman got rid of the revered Gen. MacArthur in the Korean war, the public turned on him big time. I think the next lowest rating was Nixon with Watergate.

True. The war was already being won before the US entered. And we entered as cowboys, yeehaw! Rape, pillage, destroy! We knew for years about what was going on and did nothing until we were caught with our pants down in Pearl Harbor which had nothing to do with WWII but with trade embargos against Japan. Then we entered. Then when the war was basically over we nuke two cities which really had nothing to do with pearl harbor nor the war. In fact most who died and sufffered the nuke attack were against the Japanese govt. We did not enter WWII for the right reasons. And we have not entered or started a war for the right reasons ever since.

A lot of his policies i agree with. the one that most readily springs to mind would be gun control. also, keeping health care privatized is important to me as well.
some domestic issues are more important to me than whatever happens internationally. and those domestic issues are more in line with his policies than many others i can think of at the moment.
also, i dont want a president who bows to the "almighty" gallup poll. public opinion, while it might be observed, should not be taken into account when a decision is made. i would rather have a president disregard it completely than make his every decision based on it.
the average american is too stupid to let have a say in politics. they are pawns of the media, who tells them how to think, when to sleep, what to eat, and where to shit. they are highly impressionable, and have attention spans on the order of seconds, and memories on the order of minutes.
i get off my soapbox now.

You're right, the average american IS too stupid to have a say in politics, that is why shit for brains Americans voted Bush into office twice.
Also, you're confusing making unpopular decisions for the good of America but unpopular with the people vs. making decisions that make absolutely no sense and end up hurting everyone and everyone gets pissed because of it.

Agreed. I like how Fayd played-off Bush's entire history of bad foreign policy decisions, military decisions, diplomatic blunders, etc., by simply saying:
What happens when international issues affect domestics issues? Does it matter then?

those issues are more important to you, so you can vote for whoever you want for whose ideology matches in line with yours.
for me, the issues i mentioned are more important to me than whatever our commander in chief decides to do in iraq. (i do mean to de-personalize that, cause i dont care *who* our commander in chief is)
