You forget - a lot of the tech-heavy cities like San Fran and Seattle that might be more Android-friendly come complete with many men that carry purses

A lot of smartphones are a lot smaller than 7", therefore, there is certainly value to having a 7" tablet, despite having a cell phone.

I'm not anti-samsung. I'm anti-garbage manufacturers. However, they make decent memory. I just wouldn't buy most of their crap based on pervious experience. The quality is bad and service is a joke.

You said the Galaxy Tab has more real estate than a smartphone so it would make sense to carry it around with you. To me, that implied that you thought it was competing against smartphones. To me, 4.3" vs. 7" is not a big deal considering the smartphone can do so much more.

A lot of smartphones are a lot smaller than 7", therefore, there is certainly value to having a 7" tablet, despite having a cell phone.

Additionally, A 7" screen is still a lot bigger than a 4.3" screen - I've had an HD2 since March, I'm familiar. However, I don't know why you keep harping on 4.3" for a smartphone comparison - the vast majority of smartphones have < 4" screens. Put the Tab next to a Blackberry Bold and tell me if the size difference is noticable.

I predict there will be a significant price cut on the Tab after a month or so, probably before Christmas. IIRC Samsung released the Galaxy S in late July, also at the same price as the iPhone 4. Then retailers like Amazon were already offering it for 75&#37; off in September. Now you can order the Fascinate for $0.01.

By selling it at an arguably inflated price, Samsung can milk the early buyers and create an image of the value of the Tab as equal to the iPad to buyers. Then when they cut the price to where it should be, people will be saying "Wow! What a bargain!"

I'm from Richardson, Texas but I live in New York City and I've never seen them. WRT to smartphone and Tab, I can understand that people would take it around but I can't think of any good reasons. It may have more screen space but, for now, almost all apps will be scaled to take advantage of it. That means there is no real reason to carry one when the app you're using is meant for your smartphone. Things may change over time but the Galaxy Tab is a solution looking for a problem. An iPad, OTOH, has a sufficient ecosystem.

I'd love the Galaxy Tab if it were $300 or less for the Wifi version. But at $500 I feel like I'd rather have an iPad even though it's less portable and sucks for typing.

Even though the Galaxy Tab does more out of the box it still needed to be priced lower as the average consumer always will gladly pay the Apple tax when it always does less.

I don't want it to fail, it's just the begining of an onslaught of Android tablets, and I feel many of them will be much better devices.

I want a larger screen, a user replaceable battery, and a manufacturer that doesn't have such a crappy reputation.

I thought the main feature of Gingerbread was supposed to be tablet support?

I'm with you though...I'd be very interested if there was an Android tablet from a company that had a good reputation. So far all we have is a bunch of rumors, a bunch of off-brand Chinese crap, and the Galaxy Tab. However if Gingerbread really is the tablet supported Android version, you would have to be stupid to buy a Samsung product that doesn't have it at the time of purchase.

I love Android but I really want to see a Windows tablet that plays nice with Windows Home 7. Give me access to my media *MOVIES!!!!* via homegroup and I'll be sold.

I don't think the 7" form factor is the problem. I think Deeko's right that it will appeal to people because of its portability. It could even fit in most suit jackets' inner pockets.

The price, however, is absolute fail. The wifi only version should not be above $450 at start. And, I doubt they will move more than 5 figures of the subsidized tabs. People aren't going to sign a 2 year contract for a nonphone.

For my preference, I wouldn't carry around a 7" tab because I would use my smartphone instead.

I still think that I would go for a 10" device instead as for my needs, it would be a great couch surfer. Unfortunately there isn't a tablet that does 100% real web browsing.
