How is it inferior in almost every way? They have the same cpu, the Tab has a faster gpu, the Tab has twice as much ram, the Tab has a higher dpi screen, and the Tab is available on better networks than AT&T.

Oh the tab also supports Flash and multitasking.
And you're mainly looking at specs. If Samsung has taught us anything it's that specs mean nothing to the quality of their products.

I'd like to use one before I pass judgment.

Specifically, I'd like to carry one around for a week & see if I liked the form factor, it just doesn't fit with how I use my iPad from just thinking about it, I feel pretty cramped using the HD2 compared to the iPad, although the expandable membory would be nice.

I guess the minuses for me would be:

1.) Non Gingerbread Android tablet from a company that's notorious for being slow to deliver OS upgrades.

2.) A non user replaceable battery (at least not as easy as a non-Apple device)

3.) the 7" size isn't a lot of real estate compared to the iPad (~45% of the iPad's screen)

4.) The data plans seem a bit pricey (I do like that they're no contract prices)

5.) I really want to see how the GPS behaves.

Price is pretty fluid, I can see some discounts coming if it doesn't sell well.

I guess being the cheapskate I am, I'd rather get a refurbished iPad for the $...

I don't know if they've said that you'd be able to tether to this thing but I'm sure that'd be a good selling point but knowing Verizon, they'll never let that happen.

Galaxy Tab WiFi-only model hitting Best Buy for $499.99, Sprint 3G model on sale November 14th?

We knew it was coming, now the WiFi only Galaxy Tab looks to have leaked with pricing in a Best Buy advertisement. According to some extracts obtained by Pocketables, a silver WiFi-only Tab will be available for $499.99 (a buck more than its WiFi-only iPad rival). Best Buy will also be selling a black 3G model (Verizon) and silver 3G model (Sprint) with contract or month-to-month plans. The "and up" verbiage is probably a hat tip to the $599.99 on-contract price that Verizon announced for the 3G Galaxy Tab it will begin selling on November 11th. Unfortunately, no date was revealed for the Best Buy offerings but a second rumor sourced from an inventory spreadsheet (pictured after the break) by the cats over at AndroidCentral has the Verizon Tab coming to Sprint on November 14th. In other words, it's safe to expect Best Buy to start selling Samsung's 7-inch Android tablet in November in the run-up to the holidays. See a screengrab of that after the break.

Update: As noted in the comments, the Galaxy Tab doesn't ship with a 7-inch Super AMOLED display -- it's Super TFT LCD. We suspect that's a printing error and not a hint of things to come.

Seems like they actually got some sense in their brain to release a Wifi only version.

Yeah but at $499 it's hardly a deal. Only the most diehard Android fanboy would take a 7" Galaxy Tab over the 10" iPad for the same cost. Even I would probably take the iPad.

I wish I could trust Samsung better, I am more than a little concerned with the way they've been so slow to address the GPS issues and updates in general.

If it had Gingerbread already, I'd be more tempted.

It will cost $399.99 (taxes not included) with a new line or eligible upgrade and two-year service agreement on a 3G Tablet Mobile Broadband plan. Sprint customers will have two rate plans to choose from for their Samsung Galaxy Tab: a 2GB data plan with unlimited messaging for $29.99 per month or a 5GB data plan with unlimited messaging for $59.99 per month (plus taxes and surcharges).

$700 for 2 years of service on the 2GB plan

$1,400 for 2 years of service on the unlimited plan

Sort of hard to take if you have a smartphone as well.

You can really appreciate how much thought Apple puts into its products after seeing the pricing and features mess that is Android tablets.

Yeah, I was really hoping for a WiFi 10" for around $300.

We'll eventually see one, but not anytime soon evidently :(

Wow, $60/mo for 5 GB is pretty insane considering you can get an equally priced smartphone plan also with Sprint for about the same price that includes a voice plan. At least they're not tacking on an extra $10/mo like with the Epic and Evo but still. The pricing will kill this thing.

I wonder how many of these carrier subsidized units Samsung will actually manufacture. With this pricing, very, very few will sell. I'm wondering if there will be warehouses full of unsold Tabs :D

Or, maybe they will be free with contract. Free +ETF might be a deal...

I hadn't thought of that, and once these things start being sold, and sell badly, the price will fall... Hmmmm...

I think we all have the same idea. I'm sure Amazon will have it for like $99 or free with new activation but they charge their own ETF for the first 6 months. Where's the gsm version?

Looks like the Galaxy Tab will be $499 for the wifi only 7".

That's not nearly as bad as the $1k we were hearing.

499 is stomach-able for me. Its not an impulse buy, but it hardly prices itself out of the market at 499.

Yes, and size goes both ways. The iPad has more viewable screen, whereas the Tab is more portable. Which is "better" is purely a matter of preference.

True, but it's hard to justify charging the exact same price for a smaller tablet.

I'd love the Galaxy Tab if it were $300 or less for the Wifi version. But at $500 I feel like I'd rather have an iPad even though it's less portable and sucks for typing.
