Why in the hell would anyone roll out a service like this?

From my understanding, its a spectrum issue. The only spectrum Sprint could get was 2.5GHz, which does not penetrate well.

To be fair though, I've only tested it inside my office. Our buildings are notoriously harsh to cell phone signals. I'll test it out more throughout the day.

baby steps man...baby steps.

I was selling phone for ATT Wireless when GSM deployed. People went from having 4 bars in their house on TDMA to nothing on GSM. GSM also only covered roughly 5% of their coverage area yet we were forced to offer GSM first.

Its how networks and technologies advance. Gotta start somewhere.

Verizon's flavor is supposed to launch on the 9th of Sept. Doubt they'll be supply issues, there was a lot more hype for the Droid 1 and you were able to walk in to any store and buy one.
But last year they didn't have global supply issues for smartphone parts. Also, Verizon's version won't be as nice as the Epic.

Sprint gives you VVM for free.

Availability can be a crap shoot. You still can't hardly find an EVO at a Sprint store. The hype isn't nearly as great for the Epic but you never know with Sprints product planning. Every major phone release they have suffers from major supply shortages. You would think for a carrier trying to grow they would make sure phones are available for purchase.
The Droid X, the iPhone 4, and many different HTC phones are having supply issues right now. Many manufacturers ramped down production and laid off workers because of the recession, and they're having troubles ramping back up. Blaming Sprint is ridiculous.

So are you suggesting that over these next few months, HTC phones will likely have shortages? I'm asking because I've been following the T-Mobile G2, which is made by HTC. I was planning on waiting to buy until there was a promotion for it, since there were so many deals on the Samsung Vibrant. But now that I think about it, I haven't seen any promotions for the EVO or Droid X.

I doubt the G2 will have shortages simply because it's not a very highly anticipated phone.

Well I ordered one through Sprint online through my dad's USPS employee discount for 25% off the line. After that I went into the store to check it out. Its pretty nice, bigger than what Im used to but ill give it some time. Talked to the rep as well. He told me they gave the store enough for the people who reserved it and some extras for walk ins. If the people who reserved it dont pick it up by tomorrow at a certain time, they are free to sell it to walkins.
