I really want to get an Epic 4G tomorrow, but did not pre-order. Do you think there will be a long line for it tomorrow? Should I get there like an hour before the store opens?

Nah, doubtful considering it came out for all carriers. I'm fairly sure you can walk in and get one without too much trouble.

Are you going to mount it on your motorcycle?

I'm picking it up tomorrow, but I reserved one quite some time ago. Hence, I will not be camping.

I haven't read anything about supplies running low and I read pretty much every Android fan site you can think of.

As always...a phone call could save you a ton of hassle.

I just got a call from the Sprint store where mine is reserved - he asked what time I wanted to come in, I said as early as possible, he didn't seem very concerned with the prospect of me coming in at 8am when they open. I don't think its going to be all that crowded.

Looking forward to hearing some AT user impressions of it Deeko. My boss recently got a Captivate and I'm still in awe of how "vibrant" his screen is over my Droid X.

Verizon's flavor is supposed to launch on the 9th of Sept. Doubt they'll be supply issues, there was a lot more hype for the Droid 1 and you were able to walk in to any store and buy one.

Ohh that sounds nice.

I liked the specs and feaures on the Epic 4G, but I was pretty disappointed in Sprint's coverage map. It almost looked like someone took a green highlighter and just highlighted all the major highways and state routes :p.

One thing I saw on some website, but I'm not 100% certain it was even applicable... do most of these Android phones (and this one in particular) have visual voicemail? I rather like that feature.

The Verizon version lacks the keyboard of the Epic, its touch screen only. Something to keep in mind.

Nearly all Android phones support Visual Voice Mail, but often the carrier will charge for the service. Alternatively, I believe it works with Google Voice regardless though I've never tried it myself.

Sprint gives you VVM for free.

Availability can be a crap shoot. You still can't hardly find an EVO at a Sprint store. The hype isn't nearly as great for the Epic but you never know with Sprints product planning. Every major phone release they have suffers from major supply shortages. You would think for a carrier trying to grow they would make sure phones are available for purchase.

Verizon charges $2.99 extra a month for their visual voicemail service but I personally use Google Voice as my voicemail service and the way it works is far superior to anything I've ever used, including the iPhone. The price of free can't be beat either.

Pretty sure they all have it free, except Verizon.

VVM works free on my Droid now... I've got my Fascinate (Verizon Galaxy S) reserved for pickup on the 8th... I almost made the switch to Sprint for the Epic... but I actually prefer the thinner keyboard-less version at the end of the day. The forward facing camera is cool... but I really don't see when I would use it right now...

I'm making a switch from T-mo to Sprint going from a G1 to Samsung Epic 4G for $199 on Amazon even though I have to wait on Sept. 8th for the device. I already trialed the Vibrant for 14 days but, prefer a KB and front facing camera. T-mo G2 doesn't seem to be too snazzy and worth the Sept. 29th wait compared to the beastly Epic. Gonna pay the $100 ETF and sell my G1 to compensate for those fees. Looking forward to getting this device next week. Even if Sprint stores have this device in stock i'm not too keen on paying $250 for new custs.

I have the Epic. Initial impressions:

-The screen is very good
-Much more responsive than other Android phones I've used (albeit before I load it down with apps)
-Keyboard is very good
-A-GPS found my rough location instantly, full GPS lock acquired in about 10 seconds, so no issues there
-Wimax does not penetrate buildings well

I use Google Voice on my Captivate, and it's OK. One of the few things I think was better on the iPhone is it's visual voicemail. I mainly don't like that new voicemails don't automatically download to the phone so I can listen to them offline if I don't have signal.

Why in the hell would anyone roll out a service like this?
