I love it. They seal up the phone and make the battery non-replaceable for no good reason. And in the process, one little defect ends up costing them over a billion dollars. That is Karma, and you know how she can be. If the customer could access the battery, they could simply send out new batteries and save 10 times more than all the money they ever saved by making the battery non-replaceable. I love it when Karma pays a visit to those who deserve it.

Many other phones, iphone included, have burst into flames or exploded. I believe samsung is doing the right thing in acknowledging that there is a problem and is doing a full recall. And hopefully this won't happen again with sammy or any other company. Thankfully no one has been seriously hurt.

Heh. Speaking as someone who was pretty vocal about not wanting the Note series to ditch it's more valuable function for needless 'form'... pretty hard to disagree with this.

There is a certain comeuppance factor.

A funny thing: last night we were driving back from Palm Springs. My as-yet-unexchanged Note 7 was mounted up on the dash providing GPS services.

We smelled something burning... and BOTH my wife and I immediately looked to the phone as prime suspect #1!

We both laughed, nope! My N7 hadn't blown up... it was some sort of brush fire outside. :D

I can understand the non replaceable battery, still don't like it, but I understand the motivation.

Would love to see Samsung and all of the major manufacturers release a vanilla version of the flagships with expedited Android OS updates, I'd even pay more for one, say $25-50 for an unbloated version.

just read an article that ISIS is trying to get Samsung to send all the recalled note 7's to them because "its their kind of phone"

Estimated 1 billion dollar cost - surely many people are going to be fired at Samsung ans Samsung SDI.

I'm happy I stuck with the S7 Edge as the Note 7 wasn't going to be much of a difference. If the barely used refurbished Note 7s that will show up in a couple months are at a good price, I may take a look. But if its just $100 off, no thanks.

Samsung SDI supplies the cells that go inside the battery. It's the company (not a Samsung company) that packages the cells into a battery that's the one that's at fault. SDI cells are inside the known good batteries manufactured by ATL. According to your own article.

Holy crap, yeah, heads will roll. There's a story about a Korean airliner flying into the side of a mountain because their culture encourages you to keep your mouth shut and not disagree with your supervisors.

I doubt its going to scare buyers as much as its just going to cause potential buyers to wait until samsung gets everything under control. Samsung admitted to the problem, is fixing the problem, and samsung isnt a fly by the night company. So customers will just wait it out until the recall is over

It sounds like the problem of exploding batteries on Samsung far more widespread than any battery related issue with the iphones. Acknowledging that there is a problem is not something to be thankful for but its the bare minimum of what we should expect from Samsung if they have any respect for consumer safety.

Not really sure what more you expect of them. They've issued a recall and are taking care of their customers. I think people are making a much bigger deal out of it than need be.

GM is recalling ~4 million vehicles sold over the past 3 years and no one is freaking out to the same extent and an issue with safety features in a car is a much bigger deal than a phone battery.

I don't know what to think about that article. There is no other phone for me to exchange to right now. I got the Note 7 because it's one of the very, very, very few devices with 64gb of storage, and I wanted the S-Pen. I'm still using mine daily.

According to Samsung, the official loaner phone is a J-series model (which I never heard/seen until last night)...

However, I was able to swap my Note 7 that I bought at Sams on launch day for S7 Edge this morning at an ATT store with no problems....I can bring the phone back and exchange for a new Note 7 when it gets fixed...

Cars have had defects that actually killed lots of people and had to be recalled and didn't cause this big a freak out. Did the iphones catching fire cause a ruckus like this? I don't recall.

Nightmare scenario is an understatement. This has gone from people praising the phone as perhaps the best ever released to a dangerous joke. I wonder what the long term Note 7 sales will look like going forward.

I still think the Note 7 is at this time the best cell phone made, they just need to get it sorted.

Samsung really should have recalled the early Galaxy phones because of the GPS issues, because of that, I've never purchased a Samsung phone without reading real world reviews first.
