Hey dude. The Guru3d conclusion mentions that the KFA2, when overclocked to 800/4016, nears GTX480 performance. Now, for a 5870, it takes an overclock of approximately 1000MHz core and 1300 on the memory to get next to the GTX480.
Do you still think your 5850 at 1020/1200 can equal a 5870 o/c'd to 1000/1300? If not, and you shouldn't, I don't know how you think your 5850 as is, would beat out the o/c'd 470.

Can you explain a bit more?

Yes, at 1050 it would easily pace an OCed 470, and beat it in most games... and it cost $50 less. It's ok, maybe Green can come up with a revision that doesn't melt down when you try to put a real OC on it.

No way to squeeze that last 100mhz out of your memory? Makes a noticable diff on my 5850.

Are you using the stock 5850 bios? The hacked Asus 5870 bios might get you the last 100mhz out of the memory.

It'll do 1050/1300, but I get some odd texture issues in some games, so I don't consider it my "max clock". Would be nice if I could tweak the memory voltage along with the GPU, I'm sure that's all that's holding it back.

Have you tried the hacked bios?

5870's feed the memory with a little more voltage....It may help stabalize it at 1300

I wouldn't mind playing around with a Fermi or two....But not cost effective for me :)

Is it possible to flash a 5850 with a 5870 bios? I thought they had different shader amounts..and I doubt they arent hard locked...

Well, it's working, and my memory now seems to be stable at 1300. :D It's a 5870 BIOS that's been altered. You can do this with RBE.

How can you guys say a GTX470 at 800core is 99% as fast as a GTX480 from COD6 only?
I really don't see how you can make that conclusion.

Uhmmmm, read the review. This card has two DVI connectors and one HDMI, and yet it still can't drive three monitors at the same time. Lame nVidia, lame.

Well, I'm not. I'm saying a GTX470 at 774 core 4000 mem is hanging with a stock GTX480.

http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/3...rclocking_with_voltage_adjustment/index2.html

The Guru3D article tested only CoD6. So totally ignore it if you wish. Or add it to the Tweaktown 470 o/c article.
Those results make more sense than Gurur3D's, but I'm not saying their result is way off either. At those speeds, the GTX470 has more shader power and texture fillrate, but still lacks in pixel fillrate (kind of funny, this is exactly the opposite of how the 5xxx series responds to clock speed).

Yep it's possible....But I'd only do it if you have a ref design card. If you wanna shoot for mem speed of 1300 I think it's the only way possible at the moment as it will give you a little more voltage to the memory which is the same as the 5870's anyway at least on a ref design card. No guarantee on getting to 1300 memory tho.

What I'm using on my card. What I like is you can just alter it again with RBE and set the CCC sliders to max at what you want. Set the core voltage to what you need. Change the default clocks for 3d and idle if you like then flash away. Boots up and is ready to go. No need for 3rd party apps....Of course your gonna need to do something about the fan speeds so may wanna use something to controll them other than CCC.

I'd suggest going under water at higher clock speeds on all of the latest generation upper end cards :)

This Galaxy card looks sweet! I want it. TD has it for $380. I need to wait for a better deal. I want to run 2 in sli. It should be a nice upgrade from my GTX260 sli setup.

I seriously doubt a single slot cooler will keep that card cool without sounding like a tornado running inside a HTPC. I wonder how many of these cards will get RMA after the 1st week.

Thats what they said about the gtx 260 single slot ,but they did it.

If you thought the regular GTX400s were loud, wait until you hear these.

Like Toyota said these non-reference Galaxy cards are quieter than the stock 470 GTXs.

The sound tests are in the article.

I was talking about the single slot versions, my bet is that they'll sound like a Harrier taking off.

Yes, I'd have to agree that the single slot versions would produce more noise than the dual slot counterparts. Still have to move the same amount of heat away from the core with less heatsink surface area, and a thin fan not capable of moving adequate cfm except at very high rpm. Unless, they made a breakthrough with the heatsink, or use solid copper throughout, it "should" be louder. 8800GT/9600GT would be good examples.
