I've had more USB cables and devices than I can count, none of them have ever broken. *shrug*

Add me to this category. Hell I've gotten so many cables and wall warts over the years between phones and Bluetooth headsets that the only reason I throw em away just because I have so many of the damn things!

I seem to break one usb charger a month by dropping my plugged-in phone. The case protects the phone, but the micro-USB end of the charger/cable is toast.

Maybe you should stop dropping your phone? :p

Like I said, if you go on Google and search for microUSB failures, there's plenty. If you go buy microUSB cables on Amazon or Newegg, there's a good number of 1 star reviews that talk about DOA or won't charge.

So if it's 1 or 2 users, sure blame user error. But if it's a sizable chunk? How can you dismiss the many users who DO experience cable failure?
If you Google lightning cable failures, you'll find there's plenty. So what?
(Hint: if you Google just about ANYTHING and failure you'll find that there are people that can manage to break ANYTHING!)

It's ironic- I was just looking for an iPhone 5 cable for my wife on Amazon, and noticed that most of them are rated at 3 stars, with tons of 1 star reviews with people screaming at the top of their lungs that it doesn't work and won't charge their iPhone.

Look for yourself:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=a9_asi_1...qid=1362072115

Even the one that's "by Apple" has 83 one star reviews claiming it's a bogus knock off that doesn't work. Is every other lightning cable averaging 3 stars and the Apple cable having 83 one star reviewers a "Sizable chunk"?

If I were you, I'd exaggerate and declare "Lightning cables suck!" then sneer at everyone who says they don't have a problem with them.

Incidentally, we bought the Amazon basics cable because ironically it was the best rated, even over Apple's own cable. (Even though there's a few people swearing up and down that it doesn't work either.) It works just fine.

You all should be thankful your micro usb connectors are so flimsy that you can snap the metal connector end off with your hand. Its far easier to replace a cable than to fix your phone when the port gets broken off inside of it. The cable is designed to break before it breaks your phone.

That would be fine if cables themselves werent so expensive. And I'd hate to have to keep ordering them from Monoprice or Amazon.

Expensive? They're all of, what, $2 a piece? Buy a dozen, then use them until you kill them all. You should be good until 2015, at least.

Everything is expensive when you don't even have enough money to buy food.

Unless you're working for minimum wage, these cables aren't expensive.

My post is a reminder to others of the reality that what is expensive for some is cheap for others. I provided an example that's easy to comprehend by the gravity of the situation that the person in the example faces.

My example shows that for someone that doesn't have a lot of money, everything that is not a basic necessity will seem expensive. For instance, when a person don't have enough money to buy food and have to skip meals, then even $2 means a lot.
