Like I said, if you go on Google and search for microUSB failures, there's plenty. If you go buy microUSB cables on Amazon or Newegg, there's a good number of 1 star reviews that talk about DOA or won't charge.
So if it's 1 or 2 users, sure blame user error. But if it's a sizable chunk? How can you dismiss the many users who DO experience cable failure?
If you Google lightning cable failures, you'll find there's plenty. So what?
(Hint: if you Google just about ANYTHING and failure you'll find that there are people that can manage to break ANYTHING!)
It's ironic- I was just looking for an iPhone 5 cable for my wife on Amazon, and noticed that most of them are rated at 3 stars, with tons of 1 star reviews with people screaming at the top of their lungs that it doesn't work and won't charge their iPhone.
Look for yourself:

Even the one that's "by Apple" has 83 one star reviews claiming it's a bogus knock off that doesn't work. Is every other lightning cable averaging 3 stars and the Apple cable having 83 one star reviewers a "Sizable chunk"?
If I were you, I'd exaggerate and declare "Lightning cables suck!" then sneer at everyone who says they don't have a problem with them.
Incidentally, we bought the Amazon basics cable because ironically it was the best rated, even over Apple's own cable. (Even though there's a few people swearing up and down that it doesn't work either.) It works just fine.
