So because you're too stupid to run a computer means it's Microsoft's fault? Automatic Update isn't even turned on by default.

It is on my computer. And I don't really appreciate your insults...you people don't get it, it notified me of an update and I told it it could download it. It proceeds to then download and install it, then notifies me every 3 minuts or so that I need ot reboot. I keep hitting later as I don't wanna reboot now, and it does it on its own.

you shouldn't have installed the update then if you didn't want to restart...

and can't you just goto command line and do shutdown -a to abort the shutdown anyways?

That's a good thought, but very hard to do when I'm asleep at 4AM.

then you weren't hitting later as you stated before...you should know that it will reboot if you don't hit the button..

What makes you so certain it was an update and not perhaps just something blue screening?

To help the OP- I had Automatic Updates turned off. My computer was restarted this morning, and AU was turned back on. The minute I installed Windows I turned it off, so something's fishy...

Disable it in services.msc, then just turn it back on when you want to manually update.

or power flux, or overheating or memory or anything else.
HOWEVER, I'm guessing it was AU and the OP just doesnt have his set right, yet likes to blame MS because thats the cool thing to do

If there is a an update that Microsoft considers superduper critical they will kinda override the "notify me of an update" and just install it. It is complete BS and that is another thing I hate about Windows. However this doesn't happen too often. I don't know if they stopped doing this or not, but they have done that to me in the past.

Wait til you hear what the update was lol. It was an antipiracy update, to annoy users more if they haven't activated or don't have a legal version of windows.

Then the way you have it configured, it WILL reboot your computer for you when you told it to download the updates. Don't download them until you're ready to install. Problem fixed. Was that so hard?

QFT

I'm a moron now, eh? You know absolutely nothing about me, what I do, or what I know, how the hell could you come to the conclusion that I'm a moron when M$ intentionally bypasses my settings to reboot MY computer without MY consent? BTW, to those earlier replies, I'm not running a pirated copy of windows, it came with a legit corporate copy on my T43.

Heh...at least I'm not on ATOT 24/7 trying to raise my post count or average PPD number. Seriously, how immature could you get? Go get a life or a girlfriend.....or boyfriend(in your case)?
