GA-EP45-UD3P version 1.1 vs. 1.0

Hi, I've not been very lucky with my GA-EP45-DS3R with a Q9650 and 8GB RAM (fail to resume from S3, currently dead).

I just read the AnandTech article on the GA-EP45-UD3P, and I want one.

I now notice on the Gigabyte site that there is a version 1.0 and a version 1.1 board.

What is the difference between the 1.0 and the 1.1?

If anybody ordered this board, e.g. from Amazon, did you get the 1.0 or the 1.1 board?

Thanks
P.

The difference with 1.0 vs. 1.1 was mainly cosmetics. What was changed? (Top mosfet cooler and southbridge)

Ok, thank you, I ordered a board from Amazon, hope it is a 1.1, but if changes were cosmetic I won't mind too much if it is a 1.0.

You cross your finger that you get one with a strong NB :p as I think, it's what matters the most if you're going to oc your setup.

Comparing the 2 boards, I noticed:
There's some small components re-located near the PSU connector, and also near the PCIe 1x slots. Almost every round capacitor on the board become larger diameter. The PCIe 1x slots change color from black to white. The aluminum heatsinks get re-designed.

There has to be more then just cosmetics...I had a ver1 board and I couldn't get it to run with my q9650 very well....I now have a 1.1 and have taken my chip up to 4.4Ghz in windows.

The only thing I really noticed were the caps around the NB...much larger now.

Hmm, then I better get a v1.1 board.

I am having stability problems with my current EP45-DS3R with 8GB RAM and my Q9650.
After reading the great review on the EP45-UD3P I decided to stop fiddling with my EP45-DS3R and just get a new board.

Hadn't really thought about that...but I would love to pull those silly covers off the NB and Mosfet coolers...that has just got to be holding on to the heat...

I'm going to pull the covers as well and strap some 40mm-70mm fan in there. IIRC they are attached via sticky thermal tape.

From what people have reported, the 1.0 is made in Taiwan and the 1.1 is made in China.

I'm not even sure how well it qualifies as thermal tape as it was rather thick. The mosfet cover came off (the one that says 'Untradurable - how ironic) when I installed the stock Intel HSF. All attempts to put the thing back on failed. I talked to Gig tech support and they admitted that the cover is not a heatspreader. I posted a comment about this in a earlier thread here and over at techreport.com as well.

My V1.0 board is running fine under 32 bit XP, SP3 with 4 GB DDR2 1066 installed. However, as I only have the stock HSF, I haven't tried any overclocking yet.

Did you try heating the nb cover that says Gigabyte with a hair dryer? That should do it. Post some high-res pics while you're at it :) My mb is still 2 weeks old and still getting burn in (making sure nothing goes wrong at the 30day return period) then i'll pop mine off.

Awe you mean to tell me the UD3P is the better of the two?

I thought the only difference was the UD3P offers a dual GPU config....

EDIT: for syntax

Do you have the latest bios? I read something were a bios solved some problem but wasn't sure if that was it... and 8G (4x2) is a little trickier to OC

I got the EP45-UD3P board from Amazon, it is a v1.1, but resume from sleep / S3 still fails :(

sir, .... did you update the bios off the bat to the latest?

Yes I did, same problem, all tests pass, memory, load, etc., just resume from S3 fails.

The review mentioned they used G.Skill memory for their 8GB test, I ordered some, should get it in a few days, and I hope that solves the problem.

First, it is supposed to work.
Second, I want to conserve power when the machine is not in use.
Third, I want the machine to be instantly on when I need it.
