it seems to me - now - that you felt you were being attacked on all sides. i did not mean to be part of the 'attack' . . . i guess i was a bit too forceful with my questioning and i apologize for that.

thanks again

and it looks like the wind has gone calm so hopefully the firefighters will have this major fire under control by morning. We are cut-off as our Highway that runs thru my valley is closed to all traffic . . . i was one of the last cars that got thru - i was lucky to leave work an hour early :)

If you're interested in benchmarks where CPU limitation isn't as much of a factor (which is Ronin's bugaboo about The Inq's prediction, no matter how many times it was upheld by other sites), Hardware.fr has a lot of numbers going up to 1920x1200 and with a handful of off-the-beaten-path games using a "soon to be announced" 2.8GHz A64 (FX-57? I don't keep up with CPUs).

So, the GTX can certainly fly if given a chance to spread its wings. And Ronin can certainly fly off the handle when current results on currently available hardware (which includes the GTX, for which nV is to be commended) don't accurately predict future performance. Alas, current games and synthetic benchmarks are all nV has to show off their new baby. Thankfully, some sites have found apps that show just how much faster the GTX can be than the previous gen.

Edit: Forgot the link to HW.fr's review, and to make clear that I think the GTX is an impressive update that's only limited by the available games. NVNews' review shows some very playable 8xS numbers, so the GTX won't necessarily be spinning its wheels waiting for UE3 games.

i am very [very] imppressed with the g70 and looking forward to ati's 'answer' - if it can match or beat this baby. it's only flaw is its price - but it is the fastest [period].

Usually Ronin is pretty mellow . . . for awhile i thought his account was hijacked, ;)

However, i seem to remember something familar quite awhile ago - might be something else - that involved ndas and dustbusters and accusations and similar childishness. i'll blame this one on the full moon and nVidia's launch also coinciding with some [new? "returning"?] vocal fanboys that are irritating

:D

and i can't sleep it's 2am and the fire is damn close. i'm gonna drive down the road to see if it has got to the hwy :(

I'm glad to hear Ronin acknowledge that the Inquirer may have actually provided valid results after all. That was really all that I was looking for, in the face of all the other sites that have provided similar results since then. Yes, the Inquirer gets it wrong sometimes. But in this case they were spot on.

I am far from an ATI or Nvidia fanboy...I just call things as I see them. Although I am disappointed in the incremental performance of the 7800 relative to some of the leaps we have seen in the past (and in the cost of the card), it is clear that the 7800 is now the best consumer video card on the planet. Even more importantly, I applaud Nvidia for having ample cards in stock the day of the press release. Hopefully they have set a bar in that regard that will guide the release of video cards in the future.
